OT question. How do T-stops relate to F-stops? Does a change in T-stop change DOF the same way as F-stops. Are they close enough to be the same?

If an answer is beyond the scope of understanding of the average idiot like me then skip it... I am just curious.

Also... How do they do those fancy zoom shots in cinematography where the subject stays in place and doesn't change in relative size while the field of view changes? Does it involve using 'sneaker zoom' in one direction while using 'barrel zoom' in the other direction in one smooth action? It looks like it would be technically challenging.

T-Stop is the exact amount of light coming through the barrel of the lens. F-Stop is an approximate figure, the amount of light that should be coming through in theory. They're almost the same, the numbers will be in slightly different places if you look at a lens with T and F stops, but T stops are better to go by because they're not approximate.

And they do that shot by dollying in, while zooming out and the first AC racks focus to compensate. It's really hard to do because the dolly grip, camera operator and first ac (focus guy) all have to work in unison for it to look smooth.

I wouldn't call this a review, but it has a lot of very interesting information, like how big the actual autofocus area is relative to the box you see. (normally, it's bigger than the box, 'spot' is the size of the box)

My 7D should be arriving this coming Wednesday, maybe I can provide some more input into this thread after that with some hands-on reviews.

Another side blurb - The microphone is really good on the 7D.
Although maybe it's just in a better place and it doesn't get covered up half the time by my hand?
