Do you need the pro body? If not, a 5D2 is about the same price.

I would agree about the 5d2, newer tech and better screen.

just off hand never played with a 1ds mark 2

I really have very little idea which 1D bodies are better than the others. Between the S, N and all other little model changes (and the fact that they were always out of my price range) I never kept up.

And the 1D series are still 1.3x crops, right?

Yes and no - the 1Ds is full frame.
the 1D are 1.3x crops.

What about the 1Ds interests you?
I never found them too interesting - I'll take frame rate over MP any day of the week.

the thing about the 1Ds that interested me was the fact that its full frame, pro body, proven AF system and i hear the IQ is great.

anyways i went with the mkIIn just cause >2 grand for a camera is too much for me since i dont get paid to shoot anymore.

Okay, good.

Let us know how it goes.

Do you still have some EFs lenses that you won't need any more?

actually thinking about it, the 24-70 on the 1DIIn isnt too far off from the 17-55 on the 40D

the 24-70 on the 1DIIn is 35mm equiv of 31.2mm-91mm
the 17-55 on the 40D is 35mm equiv of 27.2mm-88mm

If you have found yourself thinking about this for a while and many different times. You may have to put yourself out of your misery. But remember, Nikon's current lenses are much more $$$ than Canon.

How much are you shooting these days? It seems like you think about new equipment more then we hear about you using it.

I've been shooting a little, the problem is getting them processed, (computer has been updated a little). I fell into a serious funk this winter, depression if you will, but the warmer weather has woken me up some. I'll be shooting some this weekend and will be going to the Eastern Shore first of June for a few days.

I've posted about 200 images to my flickr in the last week or so. I was in Charleston last month for a few days and then I finally got my fall 2008 stuff finished. http://www.flickr.com/photos/reverseimage/collections/

Speaking of new, I just got a new 50mm 1.8, my first Nikon prime other than micro.

I saw some of your fall pics - comments on one of the reflection pics. Some nice stuff there. Wish we had color changes like that - without the snow and cold that follows, though.

BTW - that was directed at Miz, but considering your change over it still applies to you.

We all get caught in the excitement of wanting to upgrade/add new equipment from reading this and other forums. But if you're not shooting as much, then I don't see the point. Maybe add a new lens or accessory, but completely switching systems at this point seems to be a waste. Get out and use what you have and if it truly isn't cutting it, then think about upgrading.

My head not to clear today, pollen has gotten high today, Benadryl in my body. I've had conversations with myself while taking it before.

My wife gave me some the other night after we got allergies from some pets while looking at properties. Within 45 mins I was feeling silly. I couldn't stay awake for more than another 30 mins after that.

BTW, thanks for the compliments on the shots. I forgot to add that in last post. We get some nice changes of seasons out here, but there is PLENTY out there of what I went to shoot.

I was going to start a thread here showing what I've been up to, but wanted to wait and see what the next contest is first.

the UI on the 40D is much much easier to use, I dunno what they were thinking when they designed the UI on the mkIIn.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who procrastinates about processing images. I'm still only about a 1/4 of the way through my wedding photos (we were given all the RAW files at no cost due to a snafu on the photogs part). It's only been 7+ months.

IMO, this is one drawback to digital photography, the massive amount of files you can end up with. Wading through all of them, let alone processing them, can be daunting at times.

It took me 10 yrs to have my negatives (medium format) copied to disc.

Lightroom makes it so much easier to do, I just had a problem with space and needing more ram. I added a 1TB drive, to the 500 internal and external I already had. Went from 2gb ram to 4 gb. Things are much better.

I lost two sets of pictures I took, so I wasn't doing ANYTHING until I upgrade what I did. Know that I have. I still have over 1000 images to go through after the 1000 or more I just did. I've upload about 300 images to flickr in the past week or so.

If anybodies interested, much, much to look at http://www.flickr.com/photos/reverseimage/
