dont know how good these examples are but they give you an idea.

scroll to the bottom for high ISO samples.

It looks like 102K should be useful for making new icons and that's about it.

Why did they only post 100% crops? I have no idea what the whole picture is supposed to be.

Here we go many different ISO's, including 102k, which looks usable for a lot of cases.

some high iso samples, but not real world examples.

That 102K shot looks great for what it is. Definitely usable for web & small newsprint.

I don't know why all these sites are only posting 100% crops. I'm sure the D3s doesn't look pretty at 102K when viewed at 100%, but the image might still be usefull.

edit: I just saw the full size jpgs in the gallery. 102K is pretty ugly still, but maybe the RAW files will be a little better. I don't know where all the chroma noise comes from when it goes from 51K to 102K, since they're all based off 12K and just pushed with a tone curve.

Pixel peepers, that's all they care about. If they weren't around things would be so much better.

I can't look at the full size jpgs from the D3s on my iPhone.

I'll take a look at home.

ever take a high ISO picture with the lens cap on, in RAW, and play with it?
It looks black at regular exposure (as you would expect) but as soon as you start cranking up the exposure, you get something like this:

hah!

I should retry that with my 40D sometime.

I finally got my hands on a pre-production Canon 1Dmkiv this weekend. I could have had one about 3 weeks ago but it clashed when I was in the US unfortunately. So I scheduled it for this weekend and took up the offer of director Albert Hughes (of The Hughes Brothers) to come visit him in Prague. A great place to test out the new camera and it’s almost legendary low light capabilities.
