Hey guys,

I'm looking to get my girlfriend a decent digital camera for her birthday. I don't need anything fancy, but I want it to be nice. Just a regular P&S will do, no DSLR needed. Price point is around $200, but flexible. Can someone recommend me something good?

Great camera. You can find it for $120 as a refurb, $150 new. Check with your local sam's club, this is no longer carried there but the photo lab may have a few for dirt cheap, aka $89 (thats what i paid for mine new a few months ago).

i heard that for not too pricey ones (ie. below 400$), Sony's camera are generally pretti good.

 

funny thing is i've been putting this off for a while. I need a P&S too but for myself. I gotta friend in town this weekend and gotta take some pics with her Can't take the SLR everywhere and my old P&S is kinda bulky. This is why I love this site. Looks like a good buy.

i have been happy with my SD750 for the last year or so. I don't know what's new in the P&S world however if you get one similar to mine or better you'll be fine.

 

Canon SD790 is pretty good camera for a p&s. It's around $175-200 New. Has pretty cool feature like photo stich, color swap, variety of preset modes and the video/sound quality is good. Only thing is that night shots are kinda doo doo without a tripod.

 

Sorry for bumping up the thread, but I also need to purchase a P&S camera for my gf bday...

Anything good in the range of $200-300?

It'll be great if the camera is good for night shootings too.

Also, is Samy's Camera a good place to purchase cameras? Are they relatively cheap?

The camera needs to be shipped in Korea by the beginning of May... so I am planning on purchasing a camera off line...
