Calling all camera nerds: Phase One C1 Pro software
Calling all camera nerds: Phase One C1 Pro software
Not that I condone the piracy of software but does anyone know where I could get a copy for an "extended evaluation"?
I even tried downloading a trial version from their site but the form is broken.

That sort of seems typical of them. Back a few months ago when I was doing my research, I came across several posts about various bugs in C1. Many of which had been outstanding for quite some time. I was going to go with Breeze Browser because of this. However, I already owned PS7 so I just sprang for the upgrade to CS and have been completely satisfied.
Are you looking at C1 for the batch raw conversion features? I've only had my 10D for a few months, but I've found batch conversion to be completely pointless. Almost every image needs individual tweaking in raw conversion so you end up having to open each one individually anyway. I might think differently if I was a pro coming home with hundereds of images at a time.

I've heard and seen some impressive things about the quality of the conversion from RAW format. It seems to be far superior to the utility that Canon supplies. I thought that batch processing sounded good too but now that I think about it you're probably right. Files need to be treated on a one-by-one basis. I guess it would be OK if you shot a whole series with the wrong white balance or something.
Maybe I'll just stick with the Canon utility. Are you using it or just the Photoshop converter? I've heard that there are a few strange issues with the Photoshop one like losing EXIF info and such.

I've never even loaded the software that came with my 10D. I just use the PSCS "Camera Raw" converter. I honestly haven't looked at the EXIF info of any converted files so I don't really know if I've had a problem with that. I'll have to check when I get home tonight.
The next time you're in a bookstore, check out Bruce Fraser's "Real World Camera Raw with Adobe Photoshop CS". It's an excellent book.
Billiam - Who would be purchasing an i9900 printer if it weren't for those stinkin' X-mas presents he had to buy.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check it out the next time I'm in a book store.
The difference between the Canon software and the C1 software is pretty apparent in this review (scroll down to "RAW vs. JPEG resolution"): http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos300d/page15.asp
It would have been very interesting had they also compared it to the photoshop converter.
