Backdrops
Two quick questions regarding a black velvet backdrop:
1. I bought a large piece from a bolt at a fabric store, and the thing unravels and sheds from the edges and makes a huge mess, even after running it through the dryer. I don't own a sewing machine, but is there a way to stop this? I should've paid more attention in home economics in 8th grade...
2. Does anyone have a good DIY way to hold this vertically on a table top? Maybe a quick easy way to make a stand for it? Right now I am draping it over the back of a chair, with a small end table behind the chair as a platform. Any suggestions?

Hot glue might keep the edges from unraveling, but take it to someone who does have a sewing machine and get them to sew the edges... It would take less than 10 minutes.
And the pvc tubing is a good idea.

Get some 3/4" PVC, some elbows and T's and just go to town.
