I'm getting tired of resizing all my 8 meg pics, 111 megs a piece would kill my laptop.

 

I think that works out to be around a GB per shot. Well, I look forward to seeing what this sensor records as it's scanning the skys.

One thing to keep in mind, since this beast is for astronomical imaging, it's almost certainly a B&W sensor and not a one-shot color chip with a Beyer grid.

The thing that I find interesting is that this is for the Astrometry department of the USNO. Astrometry deals with making precise measurements of star parallaxes and the angular distance between stars. Sensors or sensor arrays with huge resolutions like this are more commonly used in sky survey projects where the overriding priority is to capture as big a chunk of the sky as possible with every exposure.
