Anyone Hear of Peter Lik...?
Hey folks...question: What're your thoughts on this photographer? I walked into one of his galleries while visiting Vegas recently and well, came away quite impressed...
Obviously, I cannot afford some of his 5-digit pricepoint works...but, there are some which can be had for much less and I've been after something nice for my living room wall for ages.
Thanks for any opinions...

Big Block go VROOOM!
Regardless, the only thing that matters is do you like it?

Yeah, I do...I was quite blown away with his photos. For instance, a 77"x38" (6'5x3'2) work can be had for around $3000...it's not bad, but then again, I've never spent this much money on a piece of artwork either.

I came across this gallery in the Mall of America, Rodney Lough, he has some very similar photos. They are also quite expensive, but all done in film.

His ego is certainly intact. It's lovely work. If you like it, and it will bring something to you to look at it every day, then I would say go for it.

So...after some negotiating, I decided to purchase one of his works. It came down to these choices:
Dreamland

Lavender Sea

Radiant Spirit

However, Tina does not like purple and so, we choise Dreamland. Final price with shipping and framing included is $2600USD. The size is 77"X38"...

Needs more Lemon Pledge
I went into the gallery in Vegas, too. I felt like I was at an Amway meeting. The only pitch was "This will definitely increase in value, only limited prints," blah blah blah...
They are nice, and if you like the art, buy it because you like the art and can afford it, but I think the heavy emphasis on the dollar value was redonkulous.
I walked out shaking my head...

^ Thanks dude...yeah, I've been looking forever for something to take up the living room wall.
I had originally set my sights on an artwork by Eyvind Earle...but, after seeing how much a large print of his drawing goes for, Lik was a good alternative...Still, some of the stuff they were selling at the Lik gallery was insanely $$$$ esp. the ones I REALLY REALLY liked...blows my mind how much can be spent on "art".

They're beautiful - congratulations on your purchase. I like the one you bought and the 3rd one the most. Especially the 3rd, as I'm a fool for a beautiful nature abstract.
I think you'll get a lot of enjoyment out of that piece.

Say, what did you mean in your earlier post in this thread about Lik's ego is intact...?

Ah, just that he seems to think pretty well of himself, based on all the pages dedicated to kudos, who's purchased his photos, and photos of himself. Most photogs don't have as many photos of themselves as they do photos they've taken. Nothing wrong with a healthy ego. I just wouldn't know what that's like.

Ah...yeah, well...when you have some pieces going for $50K, I suppose the ego can be a bit on the higher side.
But, I do totally agree with his style to have pics of himself more. You should emulate that...in a bathing suit and stuff. Just saying.
