Action Cams (for Track Days)
Action Cams (for Track Days)
Not really sure where the most appropriate place would be to post this topic...but here goes.
I'll be participating in my very first auto/track event of any kind in May at Lime Rock Park. For those track warriors out there, do you have any recommendations in terms of action cams to capture the footage?
I'm looking for something cheap. I don't exactly need 1080P quality type stuff. Cams such as the GoPros are completely out of my budget. I've been doing some homework, and so far this sucker's caught my eye.
Can anyone else chime in with their experience? Alternatives? Much appreciated.

I bought a couple of SJ1000s (eBay) a couple of months ago. They are decent and come with a ton of accessories and mounts. The suction mount is garbage, but sony makes a fantastic one for their action cam that will fit. I use mine primarily for drum videos, so I don't have to worry to much about stabilization, but you're going to want a solid mount to put it on. With the sony mount or a couple of the roll bar strap mounts that come with the camera, you can get a solid video.
One thing though...it isn't a GoPro. Does great with good lighting, but it really doesn't compete with the newer GoPros. For $70-80 though, I bought two. I knew I would only use them sporadically, so really spending the dough on a GoPro was not worth it. That being said, GoPro is the best.

You don't know what you're missing until you see how much better it can be. The Sony AS-10 is frequently on sale in the $100 range. I think the image is better in many regards over the GoPro including night. Here's a comparo.. it's against the Hero2 but nothing changed between Hero2 and Hero3 in terms of image stabilization.
