4th of July Fireworks (First real shoot with my D5100)

Here is my first real shoot with my new D5100 (my first DSLR). Unfortunately I didn't have the best viewing location but some came out decent I think. I didn't do any PP, I just cropped them for now.

I still have a lot to learn and practice! C&C is appreciated.

Last one is neat - looks like a wormhole on the left and smiley face on the right

Not bad but most of the lines are squiggled a little too much. I assume these were all hand-held? Try a monopod or putting the camera on top of your bag or something.

Thanks einsatz.

I had the camera on a tripod but I just got the camera on Wednesday and unfortunately didn't have the remote yet so I had to manually press the shutter button. I placed an order for the remote yesterday immediately after looking at these pics on my monitor

^ If no remote, use the 2 second timer.

Yeah I've never had a remote/shutter cable... I just always use the timer.
If you use the mirror lock up, timer, and tripod, you'll theoretically only have shutter vibrations.

I was thinking to use the timer, but I felt it'd be harder to time the shots right. I basically pressed the shutter two seconds after I saw the firework get shot up into the air. But in any case, once I get the remote, I'll be good to go.

Is mirror lock up when it stays open until you take the picture? My friend was telling me about something like that with his Canon T1i. As I said, this this my first DSLR and I still have to learn a lot. Any tips are welcome!
