35mm Sigma SLR Sticky Rubber Grip

I've stored my Sigma SA-300 in the camera bag for less than 20 years and recently when I opened the bag to check on it I discovered that the rubber pieces on the camera had become sticky. Prior to storing my camera I made sure that it was carefully cleaned and dry. What could be the cause and how do I solve it?

Sounds like the rubber is breaking down. The oils in silicone based rubbers leaches out over time. Frequent use keeps wiping the surface of leached oils. By leaving it stored you are giving it time to build up.

It happens on my oakley ear socks all the time and I haven't found the best way to stop it. Maybe wipe it with windex?
