What do they do with a car that's declared totalled ?

 

Not sure exactly....but i know sometimes you can convince the insurence company to give it back to you, if it can be salvaged it might be sod at a salvage auction or something of the sort. And i think junkyards buy stuff like that so that they can try and sell the good peices left over

Insurance companies won't give you back your totalled vehicle. You have to BUY it back at the salvage cost the insurance companies pre-determined. Last year, I bought my Integra back from the insurance company for $2,750. But I parted out most of the parts for more than $8,000, then I gave the shell (still had good doors, hood, fenders, and other misc. parts) to a junk yard because I just wanted to get rid of it and have the garage space back.

 

I didnt know that vwong...i know my uncle got his total car back for free, but the totaled value was only about 1000....but i imagine that would be a seldom case

 

It depends on how totalled it is. If its a complete waste then they will part it out usually, if it is rebuildable but will never be pefect sometimes body guys will pick them up cheap as a project
