Volkswagen: ID.Buzz News

After five years, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz has finally been revealed in production specification. Yes, the wait is over (mostly, more on that in a bit) for the electric microbus revival. And in all that time, the van has managed to maintain most of the exterior design of the concept, and it still holds on to the name born by the concept: ID. Buzz. So as far as we know, it's the only ID. model with a word suffix rather than a number.

From the outside, it's clearly related to its precursor, particularly when wearing the optional two-tone paint scheme. It has similar slender headlights and taillights that blend into the character line that splits the top and bottom sections of the van. It has the myriad diamond openings in the lower front fascia for the air intakes. The rear pillars are a little thicker and feature strakes that are inspired by the rear air intakes of the original rear-engine vans. It's also very cab-forward in its shape. There are of course differences, such as the addition of the corporate light bar across the nose and the rear hatch, and it's a little less rounded in shape, likely for practicality reasons. The pillars are all hidden, too, to give it a semi-floating roof look.

Inside, the van looks much more like a modern VW. It gets a standard 10-inch Digital Cockpit instrument screen as well as a 10-inch touchscreen for infotainment. A 12-inch unit is available as an option. Also appearing are the touch buttons for climate control, which we haven't enjoyed in other VWs. The indicator light from the ID.4 makes a return providing visual cues for all variety of functions. It's not all modern VW inside, though. Available as an option is a two-tone interior that matches the exterior.

On the subject of color, there are four two-tone options, all of which use Candy White for the upper color. They include Lime Yellow and Energetic Orange, which you see on the short-wheelbase passenger van shown at top. Also available are Bay Leaf Green and Starlight Blue, the latter of which is shown on the ID. Buzz Cargo shown above. All four of these colors can be had in single-color configurations, too, and joining them as options are Candy White, Mono Silver and Deep Black.

A variety of ID. Buzz configurations will be available, but only one is coming to the U.S. In Europe, the Buzz will launch in the third quarter of this year in the short-wheelbase form either as the commercial cargo van with a three-seat front bench or the two-row passenger van, which has two seats up front and a three-seat rear bench. Later, a six-seat three-row version of the short-wheelbase model will go on sale with second-row bucket seats. In 2023, VW will reveal the long-wheelbase version with three rows and seven seats. This is the version that the U.S. will get, but it won't reach dealers until 2024 as a 2025 model.

Only one powertrain has been announced for the ID. Buzz so far. It's the same rear-motor, rear-wheel-drive layout from the base ID.4. The motor makes 201 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque. The battery is the 82-kWh unit from the ID.4, with 77-kWh available for use. Charging rates are 11 kW for AC charging and 170 kW for DC fast charging. VW has said additional battery options will come later, and as it's built on the same MEB architecture as other ID. models, it seems likely a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive variant with 302 horsepower could come in the future.

Pricing for the ID. Buzz hasn't been announced. On the preview drive VW held in the U.K., the company said it was targeting £50,000 with the cargo version around £42,000. We're sure the U.S. version will start higher than the ID.4, which starts around $42,000, simply because of its extra size. But we'll surely know more between now and the couple of years before our long-wheelbase versions are ready.

Years in the making, the ID. Buzz is Volkswagen’s first commercial vehicle based on the MEB platform introduced by the ID.3 compact hatchback and ID.4 compact utility vehicle. The German automaker will offer the all-electric newcomer in cargo or passenger versions with two wheelbase options and a rear-mounted electric motor that produces 201 ponies.
22 photos

Revealed with the help of Ewan “I have the high ground” McGregor, the ID. Buzz features a floor-installed battery that brings the center of gravity down for improved handling. It’s also gifted with a high seating position, similar to what you would expect of the combustion-engined predecessors.

Clearly inspired by the original Transporter, this fellow maximizes interior space with short overhangs fore and aft. Although it’s shorter than the T6.1, the ID. Buzz features pretty much the same wheelbase as the T6.1 generation. The dashboard is eerily similar to the ID.3 and ID.4 because why not? Volkswagen shares many parts between platform siblings to keep the costs down as much as possible, and that’s essential if you remember that EVs are costly for the time being because of the battery’s chemistry.

Over in Europe, the standard-wheelbase variant is expected to roll out in the third quarter of the year in two configurations: five-seat passenger van or work-oriented panel van. A three-row passenger van with six seats is due later. American customers, on the other hand, will be offered the long-wheelbase passenger van with seven seats in 2024 for MY24.

Customers in the Old Continent will be presented with the seven-seat option next year. The ID. Buzz Cargo is offered with two individual seats or a driver’s seat and a two-passenger bench. A single battery option will be offered initially: an 82-kWh pack with a net capacity of 77 kWh. The rear-mounted electric motor produces 310 Nm (229 pound-feet) of torque, which is more than adequate for this application. However, the Wolfsburg-based automaker did mention that more battery pack options are in the pipeline.

The ID. Buzz family is limited to 145 kilometers per hour (90 miles per hour), and somewhat understandably for a light commercial vehicle, Volkswagen didn’t mention how fast it accelerates to 100 kph (62 mph). But curiously enough, Volkswagen hasn't mentioned WLTP or EPA driving ranges either.

“Both versions of the ID. Buzz are pioneering in terms of their sustainability: their manufacture and shipping has a carbon-neutral footprint,” said Carsten Intra, Chairman of the Board of Management at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. “We are also using recycled synthetic materials and the interior is completely free of any real leather. ID. Buzz will also be used for future autonomous mobility concepts such as ridepooling – an e-shuttle service of MOIA. The electric Bulli is thus also a part of the future of urban transport.”

The Volkswagen ID. Buzz isn’t coming to the United States until 2024 but it seems that its arrival could be much more than just assembled examples shipped from Europe. According to a new report, the Wolfsburg-based automaker is currently considering an expansion of its plant in Chattanooga to produce the electric microbus, as well as an all-electric pickup truck.

“A source close to the matter” recently told Reuters that Volkswagen plans to invest $7.1 billion in its North American operations over the next five years. The German company sees huge growth potential in the region, which was unprofitable for several years until 2021. As part of its strategy, VW wants to have 25 new electric vehicles in North America by the end of the decade and have a 50-percent sales share coming from EVs.

The Chattanooga plant is the company’s only US factory for now and it currently produces the Atlas and other models. In March this year, Volkswagen began pilot production of the ID.4 in preparations for a fully-fledged production starting this fall. The electric crossover could reportedly be joined by the ID. Buzz on the assembly lines as the two share the same MEB electric vehicle architecture. A VW executive said last month the electric microbus will initially be imported from Germany but hinted at a possible production in the US or Mexico later during the model’s life cycle.

Then, last week, Germany’s Manager Magazine reported that Volkswagen is considering building a second plant in the United States, increasing its production output to up to 600,000 vehicles per year. The business magazine said the new plant could be located close to the existing Chattanooga plant. Also, it claimed VW is also considering a new battery plant in the country.

As far as the ID. Buzz is concerned, the automaker is currently developing a long-wheelbase variant, which will be launched in Europe next year. About a year later, the electric microbus will finally arrive in the United States.

Volkswagen has announced pricing for its long-awaited ID Buzz electric van in its home market, Germany. While we've got a while to wait until the retro-futuristic people-mover goes on sale in the US and Canada, the pricing helps us ballpark where a North American model is likely to end up.

In Germany, the VW ID Buzz Pro -- the passenger model -- starts at €64,581.30, or €56,606.30 after Germany's environmental incentives (Europe will also get ID Cargo, a slightly less-costly delivery vehicle). It's important to note that doing a straight currency conversion here, resulting in a starting price of $60,000 USD, would be misleading. That's partially because the pricing includes Germany's VAT -- Value Added Tax -- which adds around 19%. It's also because the ID Buzz's powertrain and standard equipment will likely have some variances between markets, and not just because we'll only get the longer-wheelbase version in our market.

So what does all this mean for ID Buzz intenders here in America? It -- and a CNET Cars' source -- suggests US pricing for the seven-seat, battery-powered van will start at around $55,000 before delivery fee and any applicable incentives like the IRS' $7,500 Qualified Plug-In Electric Drive Motor Vehicles federal tax credit. Just that one credit should bring the base MSRP down to around $47,500 plus freight -- slightly less-expensive than Volkswagen's five-seat Atlas SEL R-Line SUV, which is currently the brand's largest vehicle. That pricing would place VW's charismatically styled van into the same general ballpark as mid-to-high-end versions of many smaller electric crossover EVs such as the Kia EV6 and Ford Mustang Mach-E -- seemingly reasonable for a much more capacious vehicle.

The only other electric van currently on the market in America, the 2022 Ford E-Transit, starts at $51,880 (including $1,695 for delivery) before incentives, but it's a very different vehicle, and not just because it's a two-seat, cargo-only commercial hauler.

Of course, we won't have US ID Buzz pricing and equipment levels for quite a while yet -- probably not until next year. That's because the automaker is staggering the global rollout of the vehicle, which means when it finally rolls off the docks and onto our shores, it'll carry a 2024 model-year designation. That means an already long wait is going to be even longer, however, so hopefully the uh... buzz won't wear off before VW's hotly awaited model arrives in dealers.

After decades of teasing with concepts, some more realistic than others, VW Commercial Vehicles has finally pressed the start button on the Microbus' revival. The ID. Buzz is rolling off the assembly line in Hannover where the factory has been overhauled over the past two years to accommodate the reborn icon. Deliveries to European customers will begin this fall while US buyers are in for a long wait as shipments won't commence until late 2023.

Production of the ID. Buzz Cargo has already begun and now VW is doing the same for the passenger-oriented version. The electric vehicles join the Multivan (T7) as well as the Transporter (T6.1) at the revamped German plant. To make sure assembly of the electric people (and cargo) mover would start smoothly, some 4,000 employees received specialized training.

As previously reported, the ID. Buzz kicks off at €46,455 in Germany for the Cargo model once you factor in the environmental rebate. As for the five-seater ID. Buzz Pro, it retails from €56,606. Over the course of 2022, VW Commercial Vehicles aims to assemble as many as 15,000 units. The volume will massively increase to 130,000 vehicles once production will reach full speed.

The US-spec version will be different in the sense it’ll have a longer wheelbase to accommodate three rows of seats. While VW currently only produces a rear-wheel-drive model with a single electric motor, the ID. Buzz is going to get a more potent AWD-equipped derivative with a dual-motor setup. Expect somewhere in the region of 300 hp considering that’s what the ID.4 GTX and ID.5 GTX offer.

Although there's still a lot of hype around the ID. Buzz, it remains to be seen how popular it's going to be considering the steep German pricing. Of course, if history has taught us anything, it's that the US-spec model will be substantially more affordable due to the lack of value added tax (VAT). But in a sea of crossovers and SUVs, it won't be easy for the nostalgia-filled electric bus

America is about to get groovy again. The 2025 Volkswagen ID. Buzz will finally arrive on our shores next year, and this is it, complete with an extensive increase in size, power and battery capacity over the European version we’ve already had a chance to drive.

The North American version of the all-electric, reimagined VW Bus gains a third row of seats and a whopping 10 inches of length, all of which comes from extending the wheelbase. This results in truly unique proportions. The overall length is 192.4 inches, or nearly a foot less than a Chrysler Pacifica. However, the wheelbase of 127.5 inches is half a foot longer than a Pacifica’s. The photo below should illustrate why this is peculiar: You just don’t see this combo of wheels-to-the-corners, vast wheelbase and low ground clearance. Certain driveways may cause high-centering issues.

The Buzz is also 77.9 inches wide and 74.6 inches tall, which is 2 inches narrower than a Pacifica, but about 5 inches taller. Needless to say, this is not your typical minivan.

More to that point, don’t expect the sort of rear seat functionality you find in the Pacifica and others. The third row has seatbelts for only two, meaning the Buzz is either a seven-passenger vehicle with the three-spot second-row bench or a six-passenger one with captain’s chairs. The second row doesn’t have any special minivan tricks up its sleeve, either. The bench slides fore and aft by 7.9 inches, and reclines by 16 degrees, but is basically what you’d get in a large three-row crossover.

What it lacks in functionality and gee-whiz features, though, it makes up for with unmatched space and comfort for passengers in both rear rows, but especially the third. It really is stunning. I’m 6-foot-3, and I had at least three inches between my knees and the second-row in its aft-most position. Better still, the seat is mounted incredibly high for a third row – much moreso than in a minivan or even higher than a full-size SUV – and access is unmatched for a three-row vehicle thanks to a vast door and a clever second-row sliding design (below, top left). Basically, a basketball team can occupy every seat in the Buzz and be totally comfy for hours. Oh, and with the captain’s chairs, you can walk from the driver seat all the way to the third row, old-school, thanks to the removable center console up front (below, bottom left).

The third row is so spacious you can slide it forward (pictured below, bottom right) and still maintain sufficient legroom. Doing so frees up cargo space, which as luggage test czar, I would reckon would probably equal about 30 cubic-feet (official figures are not yet available).

All the rear seats fold flat, but the third row can actually be fully removed, unlike … well, almost anything nowadays. An available “Flexboard” creates a flat floor by bridging the gap between the folded third-row seatback and the liftgate. There are then two storage bins fitted in the resulting space below.

With a bigger van and a bigger continent with bigger performance and range expectations comes a significant increase in VW’s electric powertrain. Like the original VW Bus, the motor is in the back, which is a cute thing to point out, but then the standard two-wheel-drive layout of most electric vehicles sees the motor integrated within the rear axle. That’s the case with the smaller European ID. Buzz as well as the ID.4, both of which get a rear motor good for 201 horsepower and a rather paltry 229 pound-feet of torque. The North American, three-row ID. Buzz gets a new rear motor good for 282 hp and a substantially more robust 406 lb-ft of torque. This comes courtesy of stronger permanent magnets within the rotor, a new stator with a water-cooling jacket, and a revised oil-and-water cooling system. VW didn’t state a 0-to-60 time, but all that extra grunt should shave a good chunk off the Euro Buzz’s 10.2-second 0-100 km/h time even with the extra size.

Unlike that Euro Buzz, however, our three-row Buzz will get the option of a second motor placed on the front axle and therefore all-wheel drive. VW only stated it would produce “about 330 hp,” which is something, but far from the big-time jump you get with some other dual-motor EVs.

All that extra wheelbase isn’t just for interior space: It allows more real estate to stuff batteries. Capacity jumps from 82 kilowatt-hours in the Euro Buzz and ID.4, to 91 kWh. Expect range figures of about 260 miles with rear-wheel drive and about 250 with the dual motor. That's only slightly less than the ID.4, which may have less battery capacity but is also smaller and less powerful.

Apart from its extra space, the interior design carries over from the Euro Buzz, but you can forget about its vibrant yellow and orange choices. Boo. The light gray with orange-like "clay" accents is the most colorful it gets. The others are light brown seats with yellow piping, gray door inserts and a wood-look dash; or a dark brown and black combo with blue door inserts and wood-look dash. If I could add a gif to this story it would be Homer Simpson going “BORING!”

What it lacks in color, though, it will make up for in light. The available sunroof is 67.4 inches long and 40.8 inches wide, making it the biggest available in the Volkswagen Group. Remember, that includes Audi and Bentley. A polymer-dispersed liquid crystal layer changes the glass’ opacity rather than having a sunshade. Could get toasty, but let’s not forget the original VW Bus could have as many as 23 windows.

Another unique feature for the three-row model is the power-operated sliding window within the sliding door windows. Volkswagen touts this as a nod to the original bus, which I suppose it is, but really, it’s a necessity due to the desire to maintain flush-mounted side glass.

Like the upcoming ID.7, the North American Buzz gets an updated version of VW’s much-maligned (and rightfully so) touchscreen infotainment and vehicle control system. The touch sliders are now illuminated because everyone complained about that ridiculous omission. Climate functions are now docked at the bottom of the display. There are also a variety of other docked menu operations that should theoretically alleviate some of the system’s horrid functionality. Emphasis on theoretically. We’ll need to try out this updated system to know for sure.

Sadly, carried over unchanged from the ID.4 are the ridiculous window controls on the driver door (above, bottom left) that make you first press a touch-sensitive "rear" icon to switch the two window switches from controlling the front windows to controlling the rear sliders.

Pricing was not announced, but don’t count on a bargain. Besides being an electric, three-row vehicle with a whimsical design that’ll certainly command a premium, the Buzz doesn’t offer a bare-bones base model like the ID.4 does. The front seats are 12-way adjustable, heated, ventilated and massaging. The second row is heated, as is the steering wheel. Wireless charging, eight USB-C ports, and all the driver assistance features are included, too.

We should know that price as well as range closer to the on-sale date next year. Regardless of those details, though, we’re guessing you’ll want to get on the waiting list as soon as possible. The 2025 VW ID. Buzz seems like it’s going to be a hot ticket EV.

Volkswagen presented the new ID.Buzz GTX: The electric Bulli equipped with a powerful performance drive system will in future be available with two wheelbases, two battery sizes and a choice of 5-, 6- or 7-seater. It also comes with standard 4MOTION all-wheel drive for optimum pulling power and traction in every driving situation. In addition, both GTX models share an individualized design. Pre-sales of the ID.Buzz GTX will start in the summer of 2024.

Electric all-wheel drive: The new ID.Buzz GTX is equipped with two electric motors - both together form all-wheel drive. The top speed of the GTX models is electronically limited to 160 km/h. The electric motors are supplied with energy by batteries in two sizes, which can be recharged from 10 to 80 percent in 26 minutes at DC fast charging stations with up to 185 kW or 200 kW (maximum charging capacity).

GTX towing capacity

Thanks to an extra power and the 4MOTION drive system, the ID.Buzz GTX offers a higher maximum trailer weight: the version with normal wheelbase can effortlessly pull up to 1,800 kg (braked, 8 per cent gradient), while the ID.Buzz GTX with long wheelbase has a maximum towing capacity of 1,600 kg. The maximum trailer weight was thus increased by 800 kg and 600 kg respectively. The 4MOTION system offers great traction advantages when towing a trailer on wet or loose surfaces in particular. The new ID.Buzz GTX is therefore an ideal towing vehicle - for example, for boat or horse trailers, which are often moved on slippery ground.

GTX exterior

The ID.Buzz GTX is characterised by an individualised front end. A bumper in GTX styling with a black air intake grille in honeycomb design and new side air guide elements also ensure a dynamic, distinctive appearance. New daytime running lights are integrated into the bumper on the left and right. All black body elements such as the new air intake grille, air guide elements, GTX lettering and the exterior mirror housings are finished in high-gloss black. In addition, the Solna 20-inch alloy wheel is standard equipment for the ID.Buzz GTX. The range of GTX wheel rims is supplemented by two new 21-inch alloy wheels. Always fitted as standard are IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights. A new paint finish in the colour Cherry Red is offered exclusively for the ID.Buzz GTX. This red will be configurable as a solid paint finish and optionally in combination with Mono Silver metallic as a two-tone paint finish.

GTX interior

Volkswagen has also customised the interior equipment. Dark tones underline the sporty character of the most powerful ID.Buzz. For example, both ID.Buzz GTX versions are the only models in the product line to be equipped with a black headliner. The seats also feature the specific GTX design. Electrically adjustable comfort seats with memory function are used in the front. The seats are enhanced by covers in black ArtVelours Eco microfleece with a new diamond pattern as well as red contrasting seams and red piping. Red cross-stitching is a distinctive feature on the multifunction steering wheel, which is refined by a red application on the centre trim and the GTX lettering integrated there in chrome.

GTX passenger compartment

The ID.Buzz GTX with standard wheelbase is available as a five-seater with a 40:60 split three-seat bench in the second row (2/3) or as a six-seater with two individual seats each in the second and third rows (2/2/2). The long-wheelbase ID.Buzz GTX will also launch as a five-seater with a three-seat bench (2/3) and as a six-seater (2/2/2). This version will additionally be offered as a seven-seater with a three-seat bench in the second row and two individual seats in the third row (2/3/2). Depending on the model, the seats in the second row can be moved longitudinally by 150 mm (standard wheelbase) or 200 mm (long wheelbase).

GTX luggage compartment

The luggage compartment volume of the ID.Buzz GTX (standard wheelbase) as a five-seater is between 1,121 litres (loaded to the upper edge of the rear seat backrests) and 2,123 litres (rear bench seat folded down, loaded up to the upper edge of the front seat backrests). The extended ID.Buzz GTX is even more spacious: when loaded up to the upper edge of the backrests of the second row of seats, a capacity of 1,340 litres is available. If the large ID.Buzz GTX is loaded right up to the first row of seats, the volume increases to 2,469 litres. Even when occupied by seven people, there is still 306 litres of load space available behind the third row of seats in the long GTX. Depending on the seat configuration, both ID.Buzz GTX models can be equipped with a long or short Multiflex board (including two folding boxes). The Multiflex board creates a second loading level and - when the rear seats are folded down - a flat load area.

New hardware and software plus ChatGPT

A major hardware and software update for the product line will be incorporated into the GTX models. New on board are a head-up display (optional) and the next generation of infotainment systems (standard) with new menu navigation and graphics as well as fast processor power. The system's touchscreen is now 12.9 inches in size instead of 12.0 inches (33 cm diagonal instead of 30 cm). Also new are the illuminated touch bar for temperature and volume control. The new IDA voice assistant is operated with natural voice commands. It not only allows control of numerous vehicle functions, but also provides answers to general knowledge questions using the online connection to databases such as Wikipedia. The innovative IDA voice assistant additionally features ChatGPT integration (AI/artificial intelligence). Another new feature is a Wellness app that uses preconfigured programmes to adjust various vehicle functions to improve well-being while driving or charging. The exit warning system is another new addition. This warns of motorised vehicles and bicycles approaching from the rear when a door is opened.

Samba bus of a new era

From now on, the ID.Buzz with long wheelbase will be available with the panoramic sunroof with smart glass as an option. The multi-layered smart glass has an integrated liquid crystal film and can be electronically switched so that it is transparent or opaque. The largest panoramic sunroof ever used in a Volkswagen evokes memories of the legendary "Samba Bus" and transfers the typical roof windows of the classic car into the present.

GTX concept

Since 2021, the sportiest models of the all-electric ID. series have carried the GTX label - in reference to the dynamic VW models with the designations GTI, GTD or GTE. Including the new ID.Buzz GTX, a total of five ID. models will be available to the GTX range soon.

We can scarcely believe it ourselves, but Volkswagen has finally released official pricing, plus electric range, for the long-awaited ID. Buzz electric minivan, a car that was first previewed by a concept in 2017. No, it's not cheap, but at the $61,545 base price (including the $1,550 destination charge), it does come seriously well-equipped.

But before we dig too deep into pricing and features, we should also look at the range numbers. They all come with a 91-kWh battery pack, and the rear-drive 282-horsepower variant will go the farthest. It manages 234 miles, but the 335-horsepower dual-motor all-wheel-drive version is darn near as good at 231 miles.

Now onto the nitty-gritty details, starting with the complete pricing. There are three trims, Pro S, Pro S Plus and 1st Edition. Only the Pro S Plus and 1st Edition are available with all-wheel drive, and it adds $4,500 to the overall price.
  • Pro S: $61,545
  • Pro S Plus: $65,045
  • 1st Edition: $67,045
This of course is a premium over the other major three-row competitor in the EV space, the Kia EV9. The EV9 starts at $56,395 for the base trim with similar electric range, albeit less power. At $60,695, the EV9 can be had with far more range (304 miles), though still less power. All-wheel-drive EV9s also offer more range plus more power, but are fairly comparable on price. EV9s also come very well-equipped like the Buzz (as we'll soon discuss), though of course the aesthetic is dramatically different. The Tesla Model X is also a three-row on the market, but it starts at nearly $80,000, well above the VW and Kia.

The Pro S is basic in really only one major way: color selection. Sadly, the base trim will only be available in white, silver or black. To get any of the two-tone options, you'll need to jump up to the Pro S Plus. It does come with 20-inch alloy wheels and animated LED head and tail lights, and at least the colors will go well with any aftermarket vinyl two-tones customers might go for. It also comes with a choice of two interior colors, either Copper or Moonlight (both pictured in the gallery above, along with the Dune option for higher trims). Leatherette upholstery is standard across the board. Copper features a saddle brown upholstery with yellow piping, light faux wood trim and black accents. Moonlight has a dark-brown upholstery with white piping, plus dark faux wood trim and blue and black accents on the dash and door panels.

Convenience features abound on the Pro S. For infotainment, the Buzz has a 12.9-inch touchscreen, along with a 5.3-inch instrument screen. The infotainment features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and there's a pad for wireless charging. The front seats are heated, ventilated, and have massage and memory functions. The outboard seats in the standard second-row bench are heated, as well, and so is the steering wheel. Automatic climate control has three zones, and the audio system has nine speakers. And on the driver-assist front, the Buzz has IQ.Drive, which includes adaptive cruise control with lane-centering, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and automatic emergency braking.

Moving up to the Pro S Plus unlocks the $995 option of a two-tone paint scheme. The only color not available on the Pro S Plus is plain silver (all exterior colors are pictured above). All three interior color options are available, too, including Dune, which includes light grey leatherette with orange-brown piping and accents, plus light faux wood trim. This trim adds a head-up display, surround-view cameras and a 14-speaker Harman/Kardon sound system. The rear-drive version still gets the bench seat, but second-row captain's chairs are available either as a standalone option, or included as standard on the all-wheel-drive version. All-wheel-drive also adds a heated windshield. And for $1,495, you can add an electrochromic panoramic sunroof. For an undefined charge, you can get the Flexboard, a panel that allows for a flat floor with the rear seats folded, along with some storage bins that fit below it.

The 1st Edition comes only with the Dune interior, and can only be had in the white two-tone combos: Energetic Orange, Pomelo Yellow, Mahi Green, Cabana Blue and Metro Silver. It gets all previously optional features as standard, plus unique wheels, badging, floor mats, and some mystery gifts for the customer. It will only be available for the first year of the model.
