^ That's like the Honda cog commercial, except it's done completely wrong. I can't even see the mechanical artistry in it, it just looks cluttered.

The R-GTI ... seemed like it want to apply some Volk Time Attack rims ... and a matching interior look to it. Weird how Germany wants to copy Japanese 'tuners (and vice versa). Global village, right?

ill have you know we have two VWs and have had zero problems with them. Little things that were our fault like a broken cup holder or a ripped sun shade, but nothing mechanical or problems with fit/quality and what not...

that picture is badass. Take a look at the engine assembly, makes VW engines look really easy to work on, doesnt it?

2008 Volkswagon R32 revealed in Chicago Auto Show
The new 2008 VW R32 will be revealed in Chicago!
Taken from Inside line: 2008 Volkswagen R32: Sold here from 2003-'05, the all-wheel-drive version of the GTI returns with an autobahn-tuned chassis and a luxurious interior. The 250-hp R32, based on the fifth-generation Golf/Rabbit. A DSG dual-clutch manu-matic transmission will be standard, as will a base price of about $30,000. VW would love to have produced an R36 using the 3.6-liter VR6 from the Passat, but there's not enough room under the current Golf/Rabbit's hood. Expect it in mid-2007.

It looks great! I'd love to buy another one, but after my last golf fell apart, probably the only way I'd drive a new one is to lease it for the durration of the warranty and give it back to them at the end.

Never understood why they gave the R32 that grill. I prefer the black grill on the GTI. If I could afford an R32 I'd buy one, but I can't.

But the biggest letdown is a 10hp bump over the last MKIV R32 which was like 3 years ago on a dated platform.
250hp in a premium AWD hatchback is weak, should have been 270-280 minimum.
I think it looks cool though.

I like the GTI more. As a matter of fact, I believe the only good "bang for your buck" cars VW offers are the Rabbit and GTI. $15,000 for a base model Rabbit 2.5, which comes with a fantastic 5MT, pretty good amount of small features unheard of on that price level, and for about $17,500, you can end up with things like heated seats, a 10 speaker 6 disc sound system, and many more nice features.
Then there's the GTI

Hmm, for $23,000 you can get a GTI with DSG. Then, add $2,000 for a set of really nice 18s + UHPS tires. Put in $750 more and you get a chip that takes you up to 250 HP with 300 lb/ft torque. Included in this chip is a feature that allows you to switch between stock and "power" mode via the cruise control stalk.
I like the GTI and Rabbit, but this is far too expensive.

As a small consolation, there's always VW's vaunted German build quality. Oh, wait...

And if that's the case, are they making a golf wagon then instead of a golf hatch hence the "Golf variant" name?
