looks like some mention up top too about v6 for the gs and 5.0 as sole ls engine.
|
i dont think the 3 litre in the GS is a straight six, its a V6.
|
PS when is the tokyo auto show?

article said October

WOOOHOOO! Please be twin turboed. That would be awesome. :butthead:
|
twin-turbo would rape all!
|
The v-6's just aren't as torquey as the straights though...I love the feeling of the inline six.

Supra Update From Autoexpress
Hot Hybrids Are Charging Up
The sports cars of the future will be hot hybrids. That's the message from Toyota, which is planning a mid-engined fast model using its fuel-cell technology. The firm recently demonstrated this with a racing version of its Prius. But that's only the start. A new car, set to recall the spirit of the Toyota Supra, is already under development. It will be based on the next-generation MR2 and is likely to be powered by the Lexus RX330's 3.3-litre straight-six engine. It will also use the same hybrid pack as the upmarket off-roader, but with a higher power output. There'll be 4WD but, to promote the sporty handling, power will be biased towards the rear axle. The Sports Hybrid is tipped to debut at 2005's Tokyo Motor Show. It's not the first time the company has demonstrated its desire to build an ultra-high-performance MR2. In 2001, Toyota commissioned its Formula One team to produce a 400bhp edition for the Essen Motor Show. Source: Autoexpress |
Of course the Lexus 330 wears a V6 engine and not an inline engine, but that's beside the point.
|
I love it. Only hope it get here soon.
|
um,mm. that pic is such bullshit... can ANYONE tell that that is a Aston Martin? w/ just silly ass lights and toyota badging

thats the same old lousy photoshop thats been floating around for months. and that tailend looks ricey....at best. its honestly terrible. at least the REAL Altezza has DECENT looking altezza lights, this thing looks like the cheapest knock off altezza taillights for an older eclipse. i think those jap auto papers that everyone scans are just hilarious. its ALWAYS photoshops and sketches. its like the fucking american tabloids. its the weekly world news of auto mags!!!!
|
3.3 is a V-6 not Inline. Hybrids of all kinds are coming from Toyota soon, soon soon.

I am 99% sure that the RX330 gets a V6 in Europe. I think it's detuned but it's the same engine we get here. |

looks like toyota has jumped on the retro bandwagon. if you'd like to see the inspiration for this new supra, anyone recall the 1967 toyota 2000 GT?. it was used as a James Bond movie car. corgi toys produced a die-cast metal replica. log on to www.
supercars.net . i searched under toyota 2000 GT. that distinctive nose is almost identical. honda's original roadster of the 60's was its competition. it was also the inspiration for todays S2000. its good to see that toyota won't stand for the 350Z enjoying all the accollades. |
that is pretty fuking nice

Supra news
99.999% positives: a) It will be called "Supra". b) 2 models will be offered, base and GT version. c) Base = $30K-ish and will smoke a 350Z. d) GT = $50K-ish and will use a V8. e) It will be sexy, and worthy of the name Supra. f) When he sends me pictures (yes, real photos of the CA mystery car) you know I will piss off Toyota by posting them here. Maybes (rumors from TRD): a) F1 paddle shifters. b) Boost? He mentioned the words "turbo" and "blower'. c) May see it as a 2006 model offering. Interesting TRD info: a) They have stroker 4.7L V8 Tundra race engines on the shelf that now are like 5.4L and make 600hp N/A. They are for sale. MKV Supra swap? b) The Scion tC Vortech blower kit has an optional water-air intercooler for 220+fwhp. $3K suggested price. c) The "Volta" may be a reality, but only in Europe as a $100K offering. http://www.supraforums.com/forum/sho...hreadid=216651 |
Cool! Hurry up w/ some pics! I don't mind shelling out the 50K for a supra. hopefully wil come out after I build some equity on my house!

Regardless of who anyone knows at TMC or TRD, the president of Toyota (yes, from Japan) was at our new dealership grand opening dinner. When our owner asked him "will there be a new Supra", he replied with a simple "yes". The president of Toyota North America was at a similar function in Wisconsin recently. He was also asked the same question by our owner. His response was another "yes".
Also, keep in the mind the last Supra, the MKIV was revealed to the press just 3 months before it's official debut. At the time, Supra owners thought the MKIII was the last Supra. My guess is the base will use the new 3.0 liter shared with the next IS and GS 300. The v-8 will use the current Lexus 4.3 liter or a new V-8 shared with Lexus. No pics yet. |
I don't think this e-mail, I just got is a coincidence. I am sure something Supra/Lexus shared and based is coming:
Date: 18-08-2004 à 17:12 Message: Hey Mike, i just talk to one of Lexus guy and he said in 2 years we will have a high 12's or a low 13's car. I think they will wait until June 06 to launch it( same time in Japan). That make a lot of sense man. They hold everything until the Japan launch. I mean this year we got zero new model and then next year we got the RX400, the GS and then the IS. I think 2006 is gonna be big. But the new super car is just what I've heard from some big vig and it's may be just a rumor. But seeing some CEO from Japan stopped by the shop in the past 2 months and some big group from CA make me believe that something is cooking |

Is that $3k for the intercooler or $3k for the S/C with the intercooler?

A Supra from Toyota makes a lot of sense. Will it happen? Up to now I saw nothing from Toyota worth being excited about except the tC. I hope they build it, but if it will be available in 2 years, it's 3 years late.

Not the EXACT same market, but you could compare the cars based on their expected price & performance potential. Shawn S |
Talk is cheap; I have heard so many new Supra rumors before only to have my hopes crushed by Toyota's conservatism. Car first, talk later.
|
yeah... I don't really pay attention to any "new supra" news anymore. If a new supra arrives, that'll be cool... but all this speculation over the past SIX stinking years has just been enough, for me. Would love to think this news is true.

Toyota will have a fast car again... they are just taking their time. a bit too much time, imo. but anyway. |

Not the EXACT same market, but you could compare the cars based on their expected price & performance potential. Shawn S It'd be funny if the new Supra GT gives the new M3 a run for its money. I hope Cadillac will be closer to that goal than Toyota. It'd be a shame for GM to see Toyota be more successful in that goal. |
