I really hope GM doesn't lead Saab astray...they're a great little niche company (same thing for Volvo).

I'm impressed with the revised front fascia in the first two pics, as opposed to the original front we saw in the last two. It's more aggressive, and the front lights incorporating a little of the grill is a nice idea. The body's shape and rear still doesn't move me; but it's definitely retained that Saab quirkiness that was lost a little int he 9-3's more straight forward styling. I think Saab fans will like it.

Looks like it was designed by committee!

Nip and tuck for 9-5 - - Source: Autocar
With an all-new replacement not expected until 2008, Saab's 9-5 will have to soldier on as flagship for the Swedish firm for some time yet. But to give it a chance, Saab has refreshed the eight year-old design with a new nose and tail and revised interior.
The most dramatic changes are at the front, which gets new headlamps, grille, bumper and modified bonnet. At the back, there are new tail lamps and a new bumper. Body-coloured door handles and new sill covers complete the look.
Inside the 9-5’s distinctive interior has been revamped with simplified climate controls, a new sat-nav system, new instrument faces, new door trims and a new steering wheel.
Details of the technical changes are being kept under wraps until the car's debut at the Frankfurt motor show. However, Autocar understands that the suspension has been modified, including a wider track front and rear.
Power comes from the familiar turbocharged four-cylinder engines and a 150bhp 1.9-litre turbodiesel, the 9-3's V6 turbo petrol won't be fitted due to the extensive re-engineering that would be required.
The final touches are being put to the 9-5’s replacement, which will be based on GM’s Epsilon II platform and is likely to be built in Germany.

Saab 9-5 Aero BioPower News
Saab 9-5 Aero BioPower - - Source: Autoweek
Saab 9-5 Aero BioPower
Saab takes the wraps off the 9-5 Aero BioPower concept. The concept features a 2.3-liter turbocharged engine powered by bio-ethanol fuel called E85. The engine delivers 310 hp, compared with the gasoline version's 260 hp. Torque is rated at 325 pounds-feet. That's 25 percent more than the gasoline engine gets.

I'm the Firestarter
They keep showing those Saab ads lately with the jets flying above. You got to wonder how long they can keep on milking the jet connection when they're basically souped-up GM cars now.

"Born from Jets" is a great marketing strategy. It's smart to hark on Saab's jetfighter past as an indentity builder for it's motorcars. Only a few others, like Rolls Royce, can pull that out of their history.

^ It's not deceptive marketing. Saab isn't saying that they have jet tech in their motor cars, lol. That's crazy. All they're saying is that Saab has a rich history of making Swedish Jetfighters. Judging from the above sketch and the Aero X concept car, it looks like future Saab cars will mimick the jet look. It's nothing more than a way of building the brand. I don't think people who may consider buying a Saab are "stupid people" that Saab "fooled."

Born from jets is one of the absolute worst automotive marketing campaigns i've seen to date. It's an insult to people's intelligence and if it isn't, it's because they don't have any.

That sees a bit shitty no?

BMW has a long history in performance automobiles/racing etc so that slogan isn't so overtly deceptive. The cars also stand on their own merit and they can get away with marketing slogans like that.
Saab's however don't have have anything in common with the airplanes they've sold so their slogan doesn't relate to their vehicles in the same meaningful way. Saab is reaching with this. Big time. It's a blatant subversion to distract image conscious consumers from their mediocre cars. If it's a 'little history lesson' they certainly don't give you much information about Saab's beginnings. BMW also has a history in aviation but they don't advertise it like this. It's not applicable.

Saab needs to learn a few things from Audi and Acura about designing an interior. That interior is awful.
