Not a fan of this car. Although the back end looks pretty good.

I like it though I wish they would try to differentiate the interior designs of Nissans from Infinitis....

I like the profile and the rear three quarter view, but the front leaves something to be desired. The wheels look too small and could stand to be a size or two larger to give the car the right proportions.

Ugly front (good grill, finally) with silly headlighs. The rear is ok, while interior MUCH improved.

Verdict - NAh, G37 sedan for me, but better than previous version for sure.

The profile is great. I'm happy that the roof isn't as arched, and the greenhouse seems stretched a bit. The profile of the M35 and last Max drew alot of comments about being to similar.

Looks tons better than the outgoing Maxima, good job Nissan.

My only complaint is the interior... it looks great, but it's practically ripped from the G35. I wish it would have been more unique, but oh well.

Hopefully the specs and the drive don't disappoint. Can't wait for reviews

Headlights suck

Everything else is a huge improvement over the current model.

Agreed.

I used to love the Maxima. I had a 99 Maxima SE before I got my CL-S and it was a fun car to toss around. I sold it to my parents and they still drive it today.

I'm not sure if I like that jagged sides of the lights... reminds me when you place a finger to each side/edge of your eyes in push in...

Despite the odd design cues, it's not a bad looking car. But what's up with the G35 interior? Way too upscale for the Nissan division, IMO.

Oh! Disregard my comment about this being not a bad looking car! It's like a bad impersonation of the Volvo S80! I'll take the S80 instead.

I don't see any resemblance of the S80 at all Maybe a little tiny bit on the shape of the hood?

I was excited when I saw the rear and then I saw the front...

I think if I had to pick a Maxima it would be a 2002-03 SE.

I only like from the very front. Profile to me is boring and the rear has that bangle butt bumper going on Interior is very nice though and since it's a maxima, I'm sure it has tons of power.

I think it looks really good except for the headlights and the smallish lookish wheels/tires. I like the indentations in the rear bumper and the muscular looking lines on the hood. The rear end reminds me of a Yaris but I like it a lot.

All in all a huge improvement over the previous generation Maxima.

While your images don't work, I know what you mean and agree completely. 97-99 Maximas look great. I didn't like the grill of the 95-96 much.

yea the area where the lights meet the hood. that's only where i see a resemblance to the volvos.

i know i'm in the minority. but i like it. it's different and risky. but it's not so offensive...at least to me.

and the interior is gorgeous.

Granted it's not as apparent after due consideration, but I can't shake the sense of deja vu either. Now I'm not sure I really like the Nissan styling either.

Car styling has steadily been on the downslide the past several years for mainstream family sedans, and most cars in general. This is just as bad as the restyled Accord. Both are UGLY.

As much as I love the interior I cant seem to find a way to like the exterior . The notion of " It'll grow on me" isnt working either.

I loved my 03 Maxima

I also had a 97 which I loved. When the next gen came out (04 - 08) I hated it. It got too tubby for me. I like this new one though.

Ha! These latest pics just convinces me; this will be the best Maxima in years. It's reminiscent of the original. I love the muscular, squared face. I hope that grill is incorporated into all of their cars at some point. As rumored, this car's purpose seems to going back to that of a real sports car, which is great, IMO. Many said that it would be moulded in the "4 door coupe" form, a la' CLS, and it seems the rumors were correct. Atleast, Nissan had enough sense to call it what it is; a 4-door sports car, not a "4-door coupe."

im liking it more and more... some specs/options...

-It's smaller than the outgoing model (shorter in length and height, but a bit wider)
-290hp/261 lb ft of torque
-Revised CVT w/ manual mode and paddle shifters
-It's FWD, at least w/ the gasonline engine, but reduced torque-steer is promised (rumors hint at the fact that the diesel will get AWD and possibly the GT-R's dual-clutch transmission since the CVT cannot handle the torque output of the diesel)
-Available heated and cooled drivers seat w/ manual thigh extension
-Optional dual moonroof
-18" wheels standard, 19" optional
-CVT offers 4 driver-selectable modes
-2 types of leather will be offered
-Rear armrest has built-in audio & a/c controls

Price will be an issue.
With Altimas topping 31k loaded...what will a Maxima cost?........compare that cost to a G37 and Nissan could have a dead car on its hands.

since it got shorter and smaller than the previous gen, i wonder how much bigger it is than the altima.

if it's not that much bigger, then nissan still has the same problem it did last time. why buy a maxima when you can buy a similarly sized/powered altima for less or G35 for more?

is it me or do those 18's look kind of small?

So.. which class does Maxima fit it??? I thought Altima was against Camry and Accord.

it used to compete against the accord and camry.

since the last gen altima and maxima got bigger, the altima competed directly with the camry and accord. the maxima was kind of in no man's land.

that's why the rumors were that it'd get bigger to compete with the avalon.

it looks like it's still in between the camry and avalon in terms of size.

It's a bit shorter and smaller than the outgoing model, but will still compete head to head with the Avalon, Azera, and Taurus. It's obvious that it'll be marketed as the sports sedan of the segment (not counting the RWD Charger and G8, ofcourse), and I have a that's a perfect niche for it. The Altima is a midsize family hauler, with the option of the SE-R treatment for those who want it. Nissan wants this to be seen as a value FWD CLS alternative.

I don't think so. This car will still be larger than the G35 sedan. It's FWD. There's room for both, the same way the Avalon hasn't dented the ES350 sales numbers.

I think the headlights are somewhat clever way to disguise the long front overhang on FWD vehicles, while maintaining a somewhat sleek look of the headlights from straight on. Gives an illusion of shorter overhang from the side profile.

Otherwise, either you would have to use a really big headlight, or a very long one (like the one on the new Accord, which I'm not a fan of). Choose between that and a big gap between the headlight and the fender (take the Altima coupe for an example), which hightlights the front overhang even further.
