Next Generation Saturn Vue News **Redline and Hybrid versions unveiled (page 3)**

Spy Shots: ’08 Saturn Vue - - by Hans Lehmann/Hidden Image - - Source: The Car Connection

GM's ownership of Korean automaker Daewoo is already paying off with numerous Daewoo-built models being sold under various GM nameplates including Chevy and Suzuki. Currently the GM-Daewoo partnership is creating a new crossover vehicle built on GM's Theta platform, which will be sold in Europe as the Opel Frontera and in the U.S. as the replacement for the current Saturn Vue.

These photos show a prototype of the Opel Frontera during recent testing in Europe. (Black tape from the front end and sides has been removed by computer.) The side view shows the first glimpse of the dashboard, too.

The next Opel Frontera is expected to enter the market as a five-door only and will be released at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2006. Power is likely to come from two 2.0-liter diesel engines with 120 and 150 hp and a 2.3-liter V-6 gas engine.

For the U.S. market, the styling will be updated to incorporate typical Saturn design elements, and the new crossover is expected to be introduced for the 2008 model year, replacing the current Saturn Vue.

Absolutely. This will be one of the better looking small SUVs in the next few years, I think. The profile, roof, and glass are very Very FXish. I also like the large vertical side vent, like the one found in the new Sky.

Mercedes M-Class clone. Looking at the side profile, it resembles that Chevy SUV concept. But definitely much better than the current Vue.

So with the Solstice, and this VUE, Saturn seems to be the only GM brand that's coming out with good designs. Who ever saw that coming...

Yeah, it's amazing how quickly Saturn's new line is coming into view. With the Aura coming (and looking great), the only things Saturn has to do is correct past mistakes on the next Ion, and make sure they don't fuck up their Lambda crossover.

Spy Shots: 2008 Saturn Vue

Our first look at Saturn's next SUV
By Ed Hellwig Email

Date posted: 03-09-2006

At the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show, GM's German subsidiary Opel unveiled the Antera GTC concept. It was a cool-looking two-door SUV with a sleek shape, and according to GM it would become the basis for the next-generation Saturn Vue.

Our latest spy photos show just how close the 2008 Saturn Vue will get to the Opel concept. As expected, the prototype is a four-door instead of the GTC's sleeker two-door configuration. Although the windshield of the Saturn prototype isn't laid back quite as far as the concept, the A-pillars still have the same overall shape. The numerous vents and port holes used on the show vehicle are gone, too, along with the razor-thin side mirrors.

A close look at the front end reveals a Saturn Vue with at least some of the details shown on the GTC concept. The grille looks roughly the same with two horizontal slats sitting just below a spot for the emblem in the center. Under the bumper is another air intake with a single horizontal slat similar to the grille above. The complex headlight cluster isn't quite as detailed as the LED units on the concept, but they are more upscale than anything you would find on the current Vue sport-utility.

Judging by the size of the cars next to it in traffic, the 2008 Saturn Vue will be slightly smaller than the current model. This will not only put it closer in size to competitors like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV-4, it will make room for another SUV in the lineup, the 2007 Saturn Outlook. Although both vehicles are expected to make their debut at the New York auto show in April, the larger seven-passenger Outlook is expected to go on sale as early as this fall while the 2008 Vue may wait until early next year.

The Antera GTC's interior is pretty stunning. If GM could bring that to the production vehicle with only minor changes, it would be a huge first step towards a revived GM.

I don't think this would be a "first step." GM has already started to create much nicer products... the Soltice, Sky, Escalade, Lucerne, are all very good steps, IMO. Interior wise, the Escalade's is phenomenal. The upcoming Enclave is mind blowing, and the Aura looks like it'll be class leading. The Camaro concept has made a huge splash, and we know it will be made. Again, let's hope the production remains close to the concept. If they can keep the Vue close to the concept, I think it'll be yet another step in the right direction.

Saturn PreVue crossover concept

The Saturn PreVue crossover concept – set to be revealed at the New York International Auto Show – continues Saturn’s ongoing product revitalization and provides a glimpse of future Saturn vehicle designs. The three-door, four-wheel drive crossover offers a “sporty interpretation of Saturn’s new design language” and illustrates how it could be applied to a future version of Saturn’s highly successful Vue compact SUV, the company said. The PreVue was collaboratively developed with GM’s Opel brand and was seen as the Opel Antara GTC concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2005. The vehicle is part of the ongoing cooperation between the Saturn and Opel brands.

“There is significant synergy between Opel and Saturn,” said Jill Lajdziak, Saturn general manager. “Both brands play in similar market segments, have similar competitors and target similar customers in their respective regions.”

The current generation of Saturn’s Vue continues to be popular, with more than 350,000 vehicles sold since the vehicle debuted in 2002.

The PreVue “merges the seemingly contradictory design elements of a sporty coupe and a powerful SUV.” Coupe-like features include the two doors and tailgate, along with a side window design sans B-pillar and an elegantly sloping roof. These cues combine with SUV characteristics such as powerful side shoulders and wheel cutouts; steeply inclined windows; stable flanks and short overhangs for large approach and departure angles.

“The PreVue is sporty, aggressive and emotional, and fits in perfectly with Saturn’s brand character,” said Phil Zak, PreVue design director. “The result is a refined shape that conveys adventure and performance, even when stationary.”

Attention to detail is clear in the PreVue styling. In front, the crossover features a V-shaped brushed aluminum radiator grille, detailed, jewel-like headlamps and Saturn badging. The front and rear underside protection has been cut from solid aluminum, as has the edge protection strip in the luggage area.

In profile, frameless windows slope downward, accentuating its coupe-like silhouette, and louvers on the sides of the fenders fit into fine aluminum frames, much like the vents on the side of the engine hood and exhaust openings behind the doors.

An Everglade Mica green exterior features contrasting dark bumpers and bottom body strip. Inspiration for this body strip came from the soles of athletic shoes, and the pattern repeats on the accelerator and brake pedal surfaces.

Door handles retract flush with the body, and only slide out when the driver approaches the vehicle with a remote door opener.

On the roof, two silver strips flank the body-colored center strip, which separates two sunroofs and merges with the pantographic hinge that’s affixed to the tailgate. The innovative design moves up and forward when the tailgate opens – so drivers don’t have to step back when accessing the cargo area.

Front and rear headlamps consist of light-emitting diodes, which have a longer life and shorter response times than conventional lamps. The lamp units are smoothly integrated into the front fenders, and in the rear, they form a brilliant highlight in transition from side shoulder to rear.

Polished aluminum 20-inch wheels complete the package.

On the inside, generous use of warm tones and leather mix with carbon fiber seatbacks, as well as stainless steel and aluminum cockpit elements. Designers opted for a two-toned interior, with dark brown dominating the upper part of the instrument panel and door liners, with light beige lower areas, roof, seats and floors.

The panoramic roof system features two generously sized sunroofs for a bright, cheerful interior, with dark tinted glass protecting passengers from excessive sunlight. The center roof console, which runs the length of the vehicle, offers ample storage space. In addition, a specially designed leather storage bag can be moved along a rail between the front and rear seats, or removed for shopping or sightseeing.

The center console accommodates the transmission gear lever, which is ringed by brushed stainless steel; three large round glossy-black vents; and infotainment and HVAC controls, which are backlit in turquoise. The console incorporates handles at each side to accentuate the vehicle’s off-road character.

The instrument panel also is backlit in turquoise and encased in an aluminum housing. And instead of traditional carpeting, the floors are fitted with sisal, a ropelike natural fiber typically used in home interiors, for a stylish, durable look.

The four seats, mounted to monorails, appear to be floating atop the floor for a spacious, airy appearance. With the press of a button, the seats slide forward to the instrument panel so rear passengers can access the vehicle.

The rear seats fold away into the floor, and the sisal-lined cargo area can be folded flat up to the front seats, thanks to a moving double floor.

The PreVue is powered by a two-stage turbocharged 212-horsepower (156 kw) twin-turbo version of the Ecotec common-rail diesel engine. It features hefty torque at low engine speeds (295 lb.-ft. / 400 Nm @ 1400 rpm), and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The transversely installed four-cylinder engine features dual overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder and variable turbo blade geometry.

oh my god. four in a row? How the fuck? Did GM all of a sudden say to themselves:

GM Board director: "Ok guys, time to stop dicking around. Everyone ready to start really working? Lets begin with Saturn...now."

**flips switch**

GM Board director: "All done. Great job guys!"

not really... they just took their superior -non us market- product and brought it here (as a saturn). a very good idea. i wonder if anyone at FORD is paying attention...

check out this months comparo in evo mag of the Evo IX and Impreza STi meet Vauxhall Vectra VXR and 330i M Sport...

the VXR (future aura redline?) is awsome...

......I can't shake the car behind either, but as with the Evo ahead, the gap back to the Impreza is almost constant. On wicked roads, littered with sump scars from unseen undulations and always throwing-up nasty surprises - the kind of roads tailor-made for cars like the Mitsubishi and Subaru - an interloper is matching their every move.

Incredibly - no, scrub that - shockingly, that car has a Vauxhall badge on its nose. The Vectra VXR is splitting the two hardest, most outrageous rally wannabes right down the middle. And despite significant horsepower advantages, not to mention the benefit of two extra driven wheels each, there's nothing they can do about it.

Frankly, I'm staggered at the Vectra's sheer ground-covering ability
. The roads are dry, which levels the playing field, but even so, none of us would have expected the VXR to live with the final car of this foursome, BMW's superb 330i M Sport, let alone get stuck into the rally reps.
.............

this should probably be in the aura thread...eh

What's sad is that the design cues are typical Honda/Acura, so they could have easily came up with something like this. This is what the RDX could've looked like.

Here are spy shots of the Opel production version. Just slap a Saturn badge on it and you have the next Vue. I think it'll be a hit, judging from the Aura, Outlook, and Sky. It's got the shape of a baby FX35.

Spy Shots: 2008 Saturn Vue - - by Brenda Priddy - - Source: The Car Connection

The folks at Saturn have already shown us their PreVue Crossover Concept, and the Europeans have shown an Opel Antara Concept. Both of those vehicles are from headlamps to tailpipes about as close as they can get to the next Saturn Vue.

We're sure that Saturn and Opel will be carrying over many of the styling cues when these vehicles - and others sporting possible Chevrolet, Vauxhall, Buick, and even Daewoo names, among others - reach production, but they'll likely all have four doors, and not the two as shown on the concepts.

Codenamed GMT319, the all-new Saturn Vue will be built at GM's Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, plant, with other facilities in Canada, Korea, and China also expected to take on production duties of the various brands.

The 2008 Vue will be powered by a 2.4-liter in-line four, in both automatic and manual configurations. Options many include two different V-6 powerplants, and, eventually, not one but two different Green Line models. The first will be a BAS (Belt Alternator Starter) system based on the 2.4-liter engine, and the second, an AHS2 (Advanced Hybrid System 2) based on their 3.6-liter V-6, and with hybrid technology developed jointly with BMW, DCX, and General Motors.

2008 Saturn Vue

I tried to find a thread for this, but I couldn't.

http://news.windingroad.com/auto-new...spy-shots-yet/

Caught masquerading “bra-less” for the first time by snapper Chris Doane, the 2008 Saturn Vue looks to be almost showroom-ready. Sans camo, the front end reveals a pair of eagles-head lenses and lower fascia that mimics a skid plate between a pair of fog lamps. The rear reveals a high-set bumper, along with almond-shaped headlamps with round brake light elements. Note that the prototype’s rear fascia has cutouts for two exhausts, although this particular model only has a single exit unit.

(Click through to the jump for more images and details!)

Brenda Priddy & Co. report that the four-door GMT319 will be assembled at General Motors’ Ramos Arizpe, Mexico plant. According to her sources, the new Vue will be motivated by a 2.4-liter inline four with a choice of manual or automatic transmissions. Options may include a pair of V-6s, and reportedly not one, but two separate Green Line models. How’s that? The less advanced Green line will utilize a Belt Alternator System (BAS) with the 2.4-liter, and the second will use GM’s 3.6-liter V-6 and incorporate a hybrid system jointly developed with DaimlerChrysler, General Motors, and BMW.

Downstream, Priddy believes that crossover enthusiasts can expect a 3.6-liter Redline model, which should be good for around 300 horsepower.

^ I think this will be good looking SUV. The possiblity of this having two Green Line models underscores how important this model is to Saturn. A 300HP Red Line version sounds hot.

Yeah. It's the Chevy Captiva in much of Europe and in Asia. This particular version is lifted from the Opel Antera that was just introduced.
