New RL caught testing - pic in new AutoExpress

Sorry to be a buzz kill but i dont have a pic - it should pop up on the AutoExpress web site soon though - if anybody can get the current mag (with the 350Z roadster on the cover) maybe you can scan the pics?

They say it will have 3.5L V6 with AWD 300hp and 320 of whatever England uses to measure torque - the IMA will available but not at the intro

Hope this helps

Next Legend To Ring Changes

It's no myth - the Legend lives on. Exclusive pictures in the current issue of Auto Express magazine reveal the all-new Honda that will take on the likes of BMW's 5-Series and Mercedes' E-Class. Caught on camera at the Nürburgring in Germany, the Legend was being put though its paces by UK engineers brought in to ensure the car will appeal to European tastes.

Wider and longer than an Accord, the new model will get the 3.5-litre V6 engine first seen in the Dual Note supercar concept shown at the 2001 Tokyo Motor Show. With 300bhp, 320Nm of torque and four-wheel drive, it will have the muscle to take on the most powerful of rivals. A five-speed auto gearbox will be standard, with sequential changes available via steering wheel-mounted buttons. To improve fuel economy, the engine will get Variable Cylinder Management, which shuts down three of the six cylinders when cruising.

The car will be launched in Japan in October next year, and will arrive in Britain in 2005. A hybrid version will be introduced at a later stage, using technology showcased in the Civic IMA. Chris Thorp

Yes. The Legend is what the japanese call (what is known over here as) the RL.

Back in Acura's heyday, the predessecessor to the RL was known here as the Legend. Acura gained most of its repuation on this car alone. Most Honda enthusiasts would like to see the 'Legend' name return one day...

Thus far, I can't find the magazine locally. I've called a couple of Barnes & Noble stores in Dallas and they don't carry it.

Just few months ago AutoExpress "predicted" TL wiht AWD and 300hp - such a crap

AutoExpress clearly does not have any reliable sources so they must collect most of information off the net from forums like this one and such information has not real value.

I know that, but will there be two different models for the US and the rest of the world.

This is actually true - and it was always like that: US getting FWD and the rest of the world AWD with all nice features.
Honda Motors of America should alter the name and become "Honda Motors of America - The Front Wheel Drive Company"

PS
Sorry being so sarcastic - too much coffee for me

Wonder if the steering wheel mounted gear shifts will work similar to the ones found on the M3 SMG or will it still be an automatic transmission with buttons to shift up and down??

lets just hope the design is better than the current model. if this car is a hit , it should send the competition stumbling to the drawing board.

Yeah its about time that Acura got around to making their top model a more enthusiast orientated car. My buddy has a 3.5RL and it just doesn't seem like its really a top of the line model for a company that sells itself on being "sporty". Its nice, but maybe more in tuned with Buik or something.

Hmm, reminds me of a lot of cars, including the old Eagle Medallion and some older Audi's.

No fog/driving lights, but it does seem to have headlight washers.

Man, that's not the photo from the autoexpress.. thats blatant photoshop of the TSX lights/front bumper.. notice how the clarity of those parts are not equal to the rest of the image. I've seen that photo floating around for months (people posted that up saying it would be the new USDM Accord!)

Dont judge on a fake photoshopped image.
Wait till you see the autoexpress one first.

The above picture is not from Autoexpress which is what started the thread. My guess is we have to wait for someone to get a scan or for them to put the article and picture online?

Here's the only info/pics I've seen regarding the upcoming Legend/RL.

"The first photo on the left (top) is of a HONDA LEGEND. The Legend is the Japanese version of the RL, which means this is the next-gen Acura RL."

http://www.imakenews.com/autospies/e...e000151480.cfm

If the drawing is anywhere near Acura-te, I think it is pretty cool.

The current Legend in Europe has headlight washers too. I can't understand why they think there is more mud in Europe than NA?? I think headlight washers would be very helpful during heavy NY snows. I know I could have used them on SEVERAL occaisions.

I remember seeing a drawing on the "other" site of the new Legend/RL. I've posted it here.

I really hope that the new RL looks similar to this. I really LOVE how it looks. Anyone else with me?

All these pics except maybe the one from SPUDMTN have been around for several months. I saw them on other sites back in June (I think).

Nothing to see here...please move on.

The roof antenna seems to be a dead giveaway that it's a new RL, because that's the exact same one seen on the '04 TL. Also, the hood lines seem to follow the pattern seen on the '04 TL. It looks like the RL is going to be a very sharp car!
