Mitsubishi Concept Sportback News **Frankfurt Concept Pics (page 2)**
Mitsubishi "Concept Sportback" to Debut at Frankfurt Motor Show - - Source: Edmunds.com
TOKYO — Mitsubishi has released the first sketches of its latest concept car, the Concept Sportback.
Set to make its world debut at Frankfurt Motor Show in September, the Mitsubishi Concept Sportback gives the first indications of the company's vision for its next generation of compact cars and will be the design inspiration for a new European five-door sport hatchback that will replace the Lancer.
The concept gives strong hints to Mitsubishi's future design direction. The car's exterior features a sporty, wedgelike profile, sharply chiseled lines, an assertive stance resulting from the combination of long wheelbase and wide track, and a high-shouldered rear end.
The Concept Sportback also marks the debut of a new Mitsubishi platform. This platform is flexible enough to accommodate a wide range of derivatives and will spawn an array of new models over the next three years including SUVs, small MPVs and family hatchbacks.

What dickwad of a designer put that spoiler-thing on there? More importantly, why? The way Mitsubishi is going, unless their sister companies keep pumping in cash, this probably won't even see concept stage.
(The Mitsubishi Group of Companies is the largest/richest company in the world if measured in assets held)

You know, pretty soon, people will be debating the merits of some design for some future car that someone found drawn on a bar napkin.
Come on let's get real - that's a 5 minute sketch that you can't judge anything by.

The similarity is scary. I really don't like it when people post about how one car copied off of another, as their development stages would've been impossible to make it so. However, pics of the RDX have been around for a while now...

If this is the future of the lancer, I have a feeling mitsubishi is going to kill the sti in sales with the evo10. This concept sketch is pretty much great.

FRANKFURT -- Mitsubishi Motors Corp.'s Concept Sportback unveiled here this week represents an aggressive new design approach for the automaker that executives say will come to market on vehicles under development.
Tim Tozer, CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Europe, said the philosophy behind the European-designed sport wagon, which will go on sale in Europe in early 2007, was to create a product that would appeal to multiple markets.
"At the moment there's a high degree of fragmentation. We see that with the North American product," Tozer said in an interview with Automotive News.
"There will be a more integrated approach to product planning and a greater coordination between the regions."
The Sportback, which features a striking front end resembling a shark's mouth, was drawn by Mitsubishi's Trebur design center, near Frankfurt.
Tozer said the Sportback, or other European products, could make it to the United States.
"I'm sure what you start to see in Europe will be sold in North America, and likewise. That's the strategy," Tozer said. "My guess is that if something like this works in Europe, it could work in North America."
Mitsubishi could use the help. The automaker's U.S. sales through August are off 29.6 percent from the year-ago period to 87,074. In all of 2004, sales slid 37.1 percent, to 161,609.
By the end of 2007, Mitsubishi will introduce six new or redesigned models in North America, Mitsubishi President Osamu Masuko told Automotive News this year.
Among them are the Eclipse, Raider and Eclipse Spyder, as well as a redesigned Outlander SUV that will expand from five seats to seven seats. The Outlander is scheduled to arrive in the second half of 2006, replacing the aging Montero.

Im a fan of the 4g63, but i dont believe every car should have it
