Spy Shots 2005 SLK AMG
Spy Shots: 05 Benz SLK by Brenda Priddy (3/10/2003)
Weve seen lots of 2005 SLK pictures, but these are the first confirmed AMG images. The giveaway is shown in the rear view, where four exhaust tips are clearly seen (and no one could mistake the sound of the engine during its getaway). This AMG version is said to be pushing 375 horsepower with its 3.0-liter V-6 and six-speed speedshift transmission.
Insiders tell us both length and wheelbase will be stretched about four inches, with interior width also expanding slightly. The roof is said to fold in a more compact space, which permits a bigger luggage compartment.
Built on the shortened floorpan of the current C-Class, the new SLK will be offered again with a wide range of engines, starting with a 1.8-liter 190-horsepower four-cylinder, a 211-horsepower 2.2-liter V-6 and a 258-horsepower 2.7-liter V-6, followed by the AMG 3.0-liter V-6 with 375 hp. In addition, we expect the new electro-hydraulic SBC (Sensotronic braking) to be offered, as well as a multi-function steering wheel controls, and the optional COMAND II system.
The 2005 SLK is expected to debut at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show in March, and at dealerships as early as a year from now, in May 2004.

Mercedes-Benz SLK Unclothed - SPY VIDEO
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/video_g...o.php?id=37553
alf a year before its official presentation at the 2004 Geneva Show, Mercedes strips the new SLK off its heavy disguising we had to live with for the past 24 months when it was first shot in Death Valley at temperatures far beyond +40 C. Now we snapped the car again: in a brighter colour, with light disguising only.
Although the F1-like nose is still cleverly disguised at the pre-series model shot on the Nürburgring, the sculpted bonnet hints to what artists have suggested months ago: the nose of the SLK will mimic the design of a current Formula-One car, crowned by a huge Mercedes star. The same design will also be given to the Mercedes SLR super-sportscar. The dynamic "arrow'ed" side of the car with the body swage running diagonally from above the rear wheel arch to the front bumper is seen here for the first time, and also clearly visible are the foldable metal roof, the long bonnet and the monochrome taillights.
Though length of the SLK will not grow and width will be growing only marginally, interior-space is yet believed to be greater due to a lengthened wheelbase which, at the same time, will optically stretch the silhouette.
The interior is also going to be more luxury and sporty and especially the materials used are said to be of very high quality. The Command-System, a six-speed automatic or the Sequentronic transmission with gearchange pedals behind the steering wheel will round the car's equipment. An adaptive accelerator, the electro-hydraulic SBC brake system will be standard, too, though all-wheel drive will not be on offer. From the start, the car will be available as the SLK 230 with 1.8-litre Kompressor engine developing 192 HP or SLK 320 with 218-HP V6 unit. The new V6 four-valve GDI drivetrains will be available later in 2004 or early 2005. Diesel engines, though, will not be offered for the new SLK. @Automedia

Nice. I've heard that they even open up the "ring" to the public every once and awhile (every year??). Lots of the euro cars get tested there, but it's not often that you get a spy shot of 2 cars racing each other

eBay Watch Reveals SLK
The all-new SLK has already gone up for auction - and it's still four months until Mercedes officially unveils it! Company bosses were sent into a spin when it emerged that an employee had 'borrowed' a top-secret brochure of the two-seater and put it up for sale on the auction website eBay.
The seller claimed the booklet contained full pictures, technical details and spec of the first two models to arrive - the supercharged SLK200 and SLK350 V6.
However, the auction was short-lived. Mercedes told eBay the lot was stolen property, and the sale was suspended within 24 hours. The vendor is keeping a low profile, too - all attempts to contact him have failed - although Auto Express magazine managed to grab a picture off the web before it disappeared. It's the first official look at the car's front end, ahead of March's Geneva Motor Show launch.
