Mercedes-AMG wins best engine award
The AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine that powers Mercedes-Benz vehicles from the C63 right up to the SLS supercar, has won the coveted “International Engine of the Year Award 2010” for the second year in succession.
Juror Jason Cammisa from Automobile Magazine (USA) said: “The absolute epitome of a German hot rod V8 engine!” and Carl Cunanan, editor of C! Magazine (USA) noted that: “For its fantastic engine sound alone it deserved first place!”
Bearing the internal designation M 156, the AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine with its displacement of 6208 cubic centimetres produces between 457 hp and 525 hp and develops up to 630 Nm of torque.
The basis for the agile power delivery is the consistent technology transfer from motorsport, which has been an inseparable part of the company philosophy at Mercedes-AMG for over four decades.
The ‘International Engine of the Year Awards’ rank among the most prestigious honours in the automotive sector and have been organised by specialist UK publisher, UKIP Media & Events, since 1999.
An independent jury of 65 renowned motor journalists from 32 countries chooses the best engines of the year. Following on from the success in 2009, the AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine also managed to beat off prestigious rivals from Germany, Italy, the UK, USA and Japan this year, enabling Mercedes-AMG to demonstrate once again its consummate expertise in developing and producing exhilarating high-performance engines.
Meanwhile, Daimler Middle East & Levant announced that deliveries of Mercedes-AMG vehicles in the region were up to 1053 in 2009 from 957 the previous year and on track in 2010 to beat last year’s figure thanks mainly to sales of the special anniversary edition of the G-Class and the SLS AMG supercar both revealed at last year’s Dubai Motor Show.
In Qatar, NBK Automobiles has witnessed a healthy sales growth over the past 12 months and has announced several key milestones for Mercedes-Benz AMG such as the first stand-alone AMG showroom in the ME which will soon be inaugurated in Qatar. Khaled Shaa’ban, General Manager of NBK Automobiles said: “This new accolade crowns an illustrious track record of Mercedes-Benz AMG and accentuate the brand’s commitment to unparalleled performance and unique driving experience. We’ve been proudly saying that we offer services and machines that are second to none to this global award is a solid testament to the business principles that we adhere to internationally.”

I've driven the E63 AMG and would love to replace my MDX with an ML63 so, you'll get no argument from me with regard to this award.
