Post Stradale Revealed

Press release...

The new Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale will be the fastest, lightest and most powerful car in the Maserati range when it goes on sale in the first quarter of 2011.

Inspired by the Trofeo GranTurismo MC and the race-winning GT4 motorsport models, the two-seater Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale that will debut at the Paris Auto Show will feature razor-sharp handling and will break the 300km/h barrier.

The GranTurismo MC Stradale responds to demands for a GranTurismo which can balance on-road driving needs with race-driving desires, incorporating the handling and aerodynamic lessons from Maserati’s three racing programs.

The GranTurismo MC Stradale produces more aerodynamic down force without producing more aerodynamic drag, it produces more power – 336kw, 450 hp – without using more fuel and it is more agile without sacrificing the GranTurismo S’s highly praised ride quality.

What the F man...

http://www.autoblog.com/2011/06/09/m...-pentastar-v6/

If you aren't happy with a Ferrari-sourced 4.7-liter V8 under the hood of your Maserati, we'd keep that sentiment to yourself, less your brand be saddled with a somewhat less inspired powerplant in the near future. According to Inside Line, shadowy sources at the Italian automaker claim that in the near future, a twin-turbocharged version of the 3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged Pentastar V6 (you know, from Chrysler) may replace the thirsty eight-pots.

Don't get us wrong. The Pentastar is a fine engine and it's done much for the entire Chrysler lineup, but converting the engine from its everyman roots into a fire breather capable of lighting the tires of a Maserati is something entirely different.

IL is also reporting that Ferrari is working on shying away from naturally aspirated engines. The Prancing Horse is supposedly hard at work on a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 good for 750 horsepower. That miracle mill is slated to power the next iteration of the company's FXX.

This is my favorite Italian car currently produced. The roll cage, 4-point harnesses and carbon brakes on this uber version are a bit overkill, which obviously means "just right" for any self-respecting performance car junkie.

Post 2012 Maserati GranTurismo Sport

From Supercars: http://www.supercars.net/cars/5620.html

The new Maserati GranTurismo Sport that will premiere at the next Geneva Auto Show is characterized by an elegant overall restyling stressing its sporty nature and by increased performances.

An innovative functionally redesigned new front bumper optimizes the front air flows for both engine and breaks cooling. A new design of the bumper with a new style profile frames the new headlights with DRL Led technology. The rear of the new GranTurismo Sport is characterized by new taillights in an elegant, more aggressive, darker tone.

A significant restyling also characterizes the interiors of the car with completely redesigned front and rear seats and a new steering wheel with a more sporty and muscular look.

True to its name, the new GranTurismo Sport will see a further improvement in performances thank to its new 4,7 liters V8 engine now capable to deliver 460 Hp.

Post 2014 Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale

Press release...

Maserati has turned its beautiful and potent GranTurismo MC Stradale into a machine that is just as fast but even more practical, technically advanced and even more beautiful.

First launched in 2010, the two-seat GranTurismo MC Stradale took development ideas from its Trofeo racing cars seamlessly blending them into its GranTurismo coupe. This year Maserati took those ideas and evolved its light-weight two-seat super coupe into the four-seat 2013 GranTurismo MC Stradale.

Its all-new carbon-fibre bonnet not only creates high-speed downforce and improves cooling, but also means the four-seat GranTurismo MC Stradale retains almost the same dry weight as the discontinued two-seat version (1700 kg.). This means it continues to be the lightest and fastest car in the Maserati GranTurismo range, even though it now offers comfort to four adults instead of two.

The ongoing development of the GranTurismo MC Stradale also proves that Maserati has not neglected the importance of its two-door coupe range even with the world’s focus on its all-new Quattroporte model.

Powered by the most potent version of Maserati’s 4.7-litre V8 engine, the GranTurismo MC Stradale hits 100km/h in just 4.5 seconds on its way to a top speed of 303km/h.

GranTurismo MC Stradale utilizes the most powerful 460CV (338kW) version of the 4.7-litre V8 and mates this to the lightning-fast gear shifts from its six-speed electro-actuated “MC Race Shift” transaxle gearbox.

Drawn from the GranTurismo Sport, this version of the classic 4.7-litre V8 benefits from diamond-like coating of its tappets and camshaft lobes as part of Maserati’s Low Friction Program to be both powerful and fuel efficient.

The transaxle gearbox layout not only helps the GranTurismo MC Stradale to retain an ideal 48:52 front-to-rear weight distribution, but also incorporates the brilliant MC Race gear shifting strategy that allows it to change to higher gears in just 60 ms, 5 times faster than a blink of an eye. The transaxle layout means that it sits in the same housing as the asymmetrical limited slip differential.

The powertrain package also delivers its drivers the choice of Automatic, Sport and Race modes, with each level delivering additional rewards in the throttle response, the exhaust note and the skid-control systems.

In another lesson drawn from its racing experiences, the gearbox also offers Sequential Downshifting, where the driver can simply hold the downshift paddle in while braking and allow the car to change to sequentially lower gears until the paddle is released.

All of the dynamic performance the GranTurismo MC Stradale generates is backed up by some of the most powerful brakes in production, with enormous carbon-ceramic brake discs at all four corners.

The brake master cylinder has a diameter of 27mm to add consistent power and to deliver a shorter pedal stroke than the standard car. The front brake package has 380mm x 34mm brake discs and six-piston calipers, while the rear has 360mm x 32mm discs and four-piston calipers.

It also rides four 20-inch forged alloy wheels that are lighter than the standard wheels, while Pirelli has developed its PZero Corsa tyres (255/35 ZR20 at the front and 295/35 ZR20 at the rear) specifically to deliver more mid-corner grip and progression for this layout.

The suspension and chassis layout enhance the already-impressive track performance of the GranTurismo MC Stradale without losing any of its abilities as a day-to-day car.

Its chassis poise was developed to be easy to drive and as comfortable as possible to retain all of the inherent handling, ride and stability benefits of the GranTurismo’s long wheelbase.

This long (2938mm) wheelbase is the key which unlocks the GranTurismo MC Stradale’s broad range of handling abilities across different conditions, allowing it to switch from a super-aggressive track car to a city commuter or autobahn express in the time it takes for the driver’s mood to change.

It has the speed to be a road-legal racing car, with its ride height lowered by 10mm at the front and 12mm at the rear compared to the standard GranTurismo Sport, yet it has the progressive handling to be considered an extremely usable super-sports car.

The car has been developed specifically to be comfortable, progressive, balanced and entertaining for all drivers, while its Race mode is designed to deliver fast lap times in complete security.

Another key to the delivery of this potential has been the retention of the 2012 GranTurismo MC Stradale’s aerodynamic benefits with the addition of the sculpted carbon-fibre bonnet. With lessons take directly from the Trofeo and GT4 racing programs, the bonnet contains an air inlet vent and two hot air extraction vents and delivers the twin benefits of reducing weight and adding 25 percent more frontal downforce at 140 km/h.

Developed from both track feedback and complex computational fluid dynamics (CFD) research, the new bonnet adds high-speed stability without increasing drag, largely by relieving under-bonnet pressure.

The new carbon-fibre engine cover joins a host of other Trofeo-derived aerodynamic updates that add high-speed stability and efficiency through the air. These include a deep front splitter integrated into the front bumper, deep functional side skirts, a re-profiled rear bumper and a pronounced rear lip spoiler on the boot.

All of these units combine as one integrated aerodynamic device to use the entire length of the car to generate downforce and to refocus the air from the engine and brake cooling systems into areas of maximum downforce and minimum turbulence.

Its black grille and the red accents on the Trident mark it as one of Maserati’s MC range even to casual observers, but some of the biggest developments have been inside the Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale, where four lightweight seats replace the two seats from the discontinued 2010 two-seat version.

Front seats utilize carbon fibre back to achieve their low weight and also cater for Maserati’s traditional luxury with a combination of leather and Alcantara trims. All four seats also have integrated head restraints for safety and support.

The standard trims are soft black. The seats can be delivered with grippy Alcantara with “drilled” perforations to achieve a stylish, practical finish, coupled with red stitching to match the accents on the grille’s Trident.
The Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale has three steering wheel options, all of which have multi-function buttons and a flat-bottomed section on the circumference.

They can be delivered in full leather, a combination of leather and Alcantara or a combination of leather and carbon-fibre.

To continue its more aggressive interior theme, the Maserati GranTurismo MC’s gearshift paddles are longer than those in other GranTurismos to facilitate easier gear shifting in more demanding driving situations, and come in concert with drilled alloy pedals.

Post 2014 Maserati GranTurismo Sport

Press release...

The GranTurismo Sport improves on Maserati’s tradition of offering rich sporting character and high performance while also delivering comfort for four adults and effortless elegance and sophistication.

An evolution of the GranTurismo S and the GranTurismo S Automatic, the GranTurismo Sport delivers a range of technical features that enhance its sporting character, both inside and out.

Unveiled at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, the GranTurismo Sport has been designed to stand out from the coupe market with aerodynamically efficient design upgrades derived from the MC Stradale. While its headlight shape remains the same, Maserati has fitted them with new lighting technology, including LED Daytime Running Lights.

Capable of sprinting to 100km/h in only 4.7 seconds and reaching 300km/h, the GranTurismo Sport carries the latest evolution of Maserati’s all-alloy, 4.7-litre V8 engine, boasting 338kW (460CV) of power.

Available with both six-speed automatic and electro-actuated transmissions, the GranTurismo Sport also delivers a new generation of the Sport Skyhook active damping system and dual-cast brakes for maximum stopping power. It sits between the GranTurismo and the GranTurismo MC to provide the mid-point of the GranTurismo model range.

The GranTurismo Sport carries on the traditions of the GranTurismo, which has been one of the most successful cars in Maserati history. Since its launch at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show, around 15,000 GranTurismos have been delivered all over the world.

Last year the 2700 GranTurismo sales accounted for 44% of Maserati’s total. The United States was once again the leading market with almost 900 GranTurismos sold in 2011, followed by China and Italy.

Base price is $127k for the Gran Turismo Sport.

Alternatives: Aston Martin Vantage, 911 GT3, Jaguar XKR-S, Jaguar F-Type Coupe R, SL550 (SL63 is $147K), Audi R8, BMW M6, SRT Viper GTS, and the Nissan GT-R. These are all in the $100K-$135K range. All coupes as well.

I think the Maserati would be fifth on my list behind the F-Type R, V8 Vantage, 911 GT3, and Audi R8. And honestly, I wouldn't really even consider a new R8 or Vantage because they haven't changed in quite a while. I'd go get one a couple of years old.

I was just about to ask what this car competes with. I have to agree with everything you just said. While this car is really nice, there are a couple other options that look even nicer.

The Maserati GranTurismo is back after a short hiatus, but don’t let its familiar shape fool you. It looks like the old one, an intentional decision on the company’s part, but more significant changes lurk underneath the elegant design. The new GT arrives with three electric motors and a battery pack, becoming the brand’s first EV, and it’s not the model’s only powertrain.

While the new GranTuriso shares a design with the previous-gen model, the two share no body panels. The new GT has a long hood, a compact cabin, and a low ride height, sporting vertical-oriented headlights like those introduced on the MC20 supercar. One of the car’s standout styling features is the “Cofango,” a new, unified design part that combines the hood and the front fenders into a single element. It moves the cut line from the top of the hood to the side of the vehicle, cutting into the wheel wells. The GranTurismo will launch with six available exterior colors and seven for the brake calipers, with Maserati’s Fuoriserie customization program offering even more options.

The new GranTurismo uses the Nettuno V6 engine the automaker introduced with the MC20. All-wheel drive is standard across the range, which has a rear-wheel-drive bias. The twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter engine features a wet sump in the coupe rather than a dry one, and it’s equipped with cylinder deactivation. The engine makes 489 horsepower (365 kilowatts) and 442 pound-feet (600 Newton-meters) of torque in the Modena. It produces 550 hp (410 kW) and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) in the Trofeo.

The Folgore uses three 300-kilowatt (402-horsepower) electric motors – one at the front and two at the rear. The car, which features an 800-volt architecture and lacks a front trunk, delivers 750 hp (560 kW) and 995 lb-ft (1,350 Nm) of torque, getting power from a 92.5-kilowatt-hour T-bone-shaped battery in the center of the vehicle. The car can discharge 100 percent of the available power through the rear axle.

Maserati says the Folgore can sprint to 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in 2.7 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 198 mph (320 kph). The Trofeo, which has the same top speed, can hit 62 in 3.5 seconds, while the Modena needs 3.9 seconds. It’s limited to 187 mph (302 kph).
All three versions feature staggered 20- and 21-inch wheels, with the Folgore’s designed for aerodynamics. They cut the EV’s Cd by seven percent compared to the Nettuno-powered versions. The Folgore also features an air inlet between the bumper and wheel arch to reduce wind noise, exclusive to the trim. Four designs with various finishes give the GT seven different wheel options.

Visually, the three versions feature different trim and badging colors. The Folgore has glossy black accents, including the grille inserts, splitters, door handles, and DLO trim. Maserati finishes the badges and Trident logo in dark copper. The Trofeo features carbon-fiber accents and side skirts, and gloss-black grille slats. The badge and logo are brushed chrome pieces with a red outline. The Modena has a black grille outlined in chrome with gloss black slats, which Maserati uses for the badges, window trim, exhaust tips, and Trident.

The company made the GranTurismo’s architecture modular, capable of accommodating both electric and gas powertrains with minimal changes. Over 65 percent of the car is made of aluminum. The Nettuno-powered vehicle weighs 3,957 pounds (1,795 kilograms), while the EV tips the scales at 2,260 lbs (4,982 kg). The EV might be heavier, but it also has a 50-50 weight distribution compared to the other’s 52-48 split.

The new GranTurismo will launch in the second quarter of 2023, with the Modena and Trofeo versions arriving first. The electric Folgore will go on sale sometime after that, and the automaker didn’t provide a specific timeline. The GranCabrio convertible will launch within the next year with both gas and electric powertrains. Maserati hasn’t finalized the pricing for the model.
