Well they already have the fullsize and midsize market covered, so it makes sense to see a small SUV from them. This is starting to get good...BMW X3, Land Rover Freelander, Acura RDX, Mercury Mariner. Only a matter of time before MB and Lexus join in, I guess.

Lexus already has the RX. They are not going to make any RAV4 sized SUV. MB won't have anything smaller than the ML.

I wouldn't be suprised to see an X3 competitor from MB.

It's popular especially among the SUV models. I think it denotes "4X4."

With the CX coming, the RDX coming, X3, and probably a baby Benz SUV, I think it's only a matter of time before Lexus joins in.

Oh yes they will. It's already been testing.

It might be called the X-Class and here is the thread for it

If there's a market for it, they will. Toyota's so rich now they can fart out a new model to combat anything that's selling well.

2005 Tokyo: Infiniti says it may add vehicles in U.S., could get GT-R - - By RICHARD JOHNSON | Automotive News - - Source: Autoweek

TOKYO -- Infiniti is looking at expanding its U.S. lineup but is still working on the details, says Nissan Motor Co.'s head of global product development.

The brand may get a small SUV in the United States.

...

The small SUV would be positioned below the Infiniti FX, providing a competitor for the BMW X3.

"It is possible, it is under study," said Carlos Tavares, Nissan's top product development executive. "But it will happen only if we confirm that we understand the customer for which we are going to do this car.

"Reinforcing or expanding the Infiniti lineup is something we might do," Tavares said. "But the first priority will be to support the (existing) premium models."

^ It sounds like all they're doing is buying time. They'll definitely develop the CX.
