Would've been cool if the headlights did remain like that.

So, it will be launched December of this year in Korea. They are to compete against GS and 5 series. Genesis is next gen of Dynasty and they are in progress of making next gen of Equus (project name: VI). Genesis will be exported to North America around in March 2008. Price will range from 45000000~60000000won(50k~66k USD), costing more than Oprius and less than Equus. They will also include high techs like Adaptive Cruise Control and Adaptive Headlamp.
Hmmm.. at that price range, competing against GS and 5 Series?? I know hyundai sells cars cheaper in US than in Korea, so it'll be around 40k+???

basically what the news said was that the genesis will have hyundai badge rather than them making a premium brand like lexus/infiniti/acura
they concluded that it's too early to make premium brand of their own.. like the initial investment would be too much for a lot of things (premium marketing and etc etc)

so basically it's a poorman's phaeton and a glorified avalon competitor. if the loaded v8 is 40k msrp, i bet hyundai will start selling them 5-6 under msrp after 8-9 month of the initial launch. good for the consumers, but bet for the company.

I shoot people
also, if they came up with a different name.... wouldn't they have to set up a whole line of dealerships?

Genesis interior spy shots.
It's the same one that I sat in while I was in Korea. If you've sat in the new IS, you know how it hugs and surrounds you. I kind of felt a little bit of that. It was very comfortable and inviting. At the link below, you can see photos of the original interior and make a comparison.

This was reported over on HyundaiExchange.com by a supposedly very reliable source. If it turns out to be BS, don't blame me.......
"In a recent speech to S. Korean business executives, Hyundai's R&D head Hyun-Soon Lee told the audience that 4.6L BH would be tuned to generate 380 hp."

Wow, that's similar to the 4.7L in the Lexus, I think it's 371hp.
But I'll believe it when I see it, too.

interesting indeed. however, i'd rather have well-built, possibly luxury level, appearance (both int/exterior) with nice techs over high hp/tq numbers if they cannot score them both.

I know you all are praising Hyundai and all of their vehicles and are excited about their forthcoming developments, but how many of you besides Pure Adrenaline will actually be in line for one when their new models come out?
I think I may be a bit of a badge whore but I don't know if I'll buy a Hyundai yet. That in itself was a badge whore statement.... but are they even going to be offering a manual transmission with the RWD V8? I could care less about manually shifting automatics with paddle shifters that make 0.00000007 quadrillisecond shifts.
Then again this is all concept and speculation, so I'll reserve judgment. I know some concepts can get me excited but the Hyundai RWD concept hasn't garnered too much interest from me. Will probably deserve a look and drive though when the finished product finally comes out.

Well if you go to Costco, I'm sure you definitely understanding the meaning of great value at great prices.
And I suspect that the 1st generation Genesis and the 1st generation RWD Tibby will be offered at great prices. That in itself will probably be enough for people to line up to buy one.
Manual tranny or not, there will be a line out the door of every Hyundai dealership if Hyundai does indeed manages to produce a 380 horsepower V8.

It just doesn't make business sense to invest the R&D costs into offering a manual transmission considering the target demographics of this vehicle. Your expectation is extremely unrealistic and unprofitable in the real world.
You also need to widen your perspective to across the auto industry, not just within your own vision. Name another company that currently offers or will offer in the near future, a rear wheel drive, V8, 6-speed manumatic transmission for under 40 grand. Honda does not. Neither do Toyota or Nissan. You have to step up to their respective premium brand and fork over a lot of money. Heck, you can't even do that at Acura with all the money in the world.
The fact that Hyundai is able to respond to the market faster than its major competitors says a lot. In fact, Hyundai's ability to quickly respond to changing market demands is considered by the industry as one of its main fortes. For many other companies out there, their technology is already considered outdated by the time the vehicle actually hits the market. That's just sad.
Whether you like this car or not, Hyundai is storming the global auto industry. It'll be among the top 5 auto companies soon; its current ranking is 6th behind GM, Ford, DCX, VW/Audi and Toyota.
Bottom line is... Hyundai needs to boost their brand image. This is Hyundai's next major homework. It needs to shed the bad reputation it received from 20 years ago and since. Hyundai knows it and that is why it recently switched the main ad agency.
People laughed when Hyundai put out the slogan for America's Best Warranty and named quality a priority. This was just few years ago. It has been received very widely and well by the public, the media and the critics. I don't see any reason why the new goal of boosting brand image will not achieve the same level of success.

And yes, they keep telling me to sell the "Honda" and get a Hyundai. I keep saying I'll do it when they give me a fat raise but so far, no luck.
