Hyundai says "i" stands for inspiration, intelligence and integrity. Eventually, Hyundai's entire lineup will include: i10, i20, i30, i40, and i50.
Not sure its a good move. Then again their current naming is kinda meh so this may work.

Update
Hyundai Going Luxury in 2008
Korean automaker aims to sell 20,000 'BH' model cars in U.S., outgrow image as compact-maker.
March 19 2007: 7:58 AM EDT
SEOUL (Reuters) -- Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's top auto maker, said Monday it planned to launch a car aimed at the U.S. premium segment next year.
Hyundai (Charts), the world's No. 6 auto maker by sales volume along with its affiliate Kia Motors (Charts) Corp., is targeting the global luxury car market in a bid to upgrade its image and convince the public that the company does not just make economy cars.
"We will launch the 'BH' in the first half of 2008 in South Korea and will begin to sell the premium sedan in the United States, the major export market for the model, late 2008," said Hyundai spokesman Jake Jang, referring to the car's code-name.
The new model, which Hyundai hopes will compete with Toyota Motor Corp.'s (Charts) Lexus, will have a V-8 engine, he added.
Hyundai aims to sell about 20,000 units of the BH in the United States a year, another Hyundai official said but declined to comment on the local market target.
Hyundai needs to add premium models, which carry higher margins, to its line-up to boost profits amid unfavorable business conditions such as a stronger won currency and weaker domestic demand, analyst say.
Hyundai competes with DaimlerChrysler (Charts), Ford (Charts), and GM (Charts).

What Would Don Draper Do?
^i started a thread about this a few months ago...wondering when hyundai would start selling a premium/luxury brand to compete with lexus, etc.
they're earlier than i thought, as i figured they still have a while to go in improving their current brand image. but more power to them
i'll definitely be interested in seeing what they have to offer. at least they're ahead of acura in the v8 department.

This is excellent news. However, I think they should start a premium brand rather than movie Hyundai upscale and keep Kia at its current position. They could exactly mimic Toyota in this regard. Kia = Scion, Hyundai = Toyota, and ???? = Lexus.

I freakin' love the design.
Read the Motor Trend article, and it hints at a shortened wheelbase coupe/convertible. Can you say RWD, V8 (or high-powered V6) Tiburon in 2 years?

This car is clearly competing with Acura's rumored RWD V8 midsize luxury sedan.[color]

I like it far far more than the Camry.

I like it!
It doesn't look as big as it's being described, though.

The front is a bit derivative, very Camry-esq. The rear looks really good, though. As mentioned, it doesn't seems as large as was described, but the pics may be a tad decieving.

In 1998, the 6th generation Accord had just come out. Are you telling me that the 7th gen Accord project and its styling (which you claim the Sonata copied) were already conceived at the time?
Toyota copies off of others, just like most other companies. For instance, the rear trunk design, it's straight off the 7-series. Kudos to BMW for starting the trend; all others are followers, Toyota and Hyundai included. It's just simply following a market trend; no more, no less. The entire industry is a big circle of rip-off's, anyway.
And really, it's called benchmarking. It's a known fact that Hyundai uses Toyota as its benchmark. Besides, if the Camry and the Genesis were aiming for an identical theme, I would say the Genesis' execution is far, far better.
And let's give credit where credit is due. Can Toyota claim that they have a RWD V8 large lux sedan for the masses? Affordable at that? No. Can Honda? No. Can Nissan? No. You would have to go to their luxury counterpart brands to achieve that, at much higher prices. Hell, you can't even do that at Acura with all the money in the world.
This platform and engine will open new markets for Hyundai/Kia, not just in the specific market the Genesis is in. As Motor Trend mentioned, this platform could handle other duties. It would be interesting to see where Hyundai goes from here.
And really, bottom line is that we, as consumers, have another great option when it comes to family sedans. What's so bad about that? More choices are always good for the consumers.

Whoa, okay, that's what happens when you don't read. Though the pics suggest a car the size of the G35, this car is longer, wider, and taller than the 5-Series and GS (I read that in the Motor Trend link). It seems it'll be a great value, regardless of what badge it wheres.

The V6 model with a more powerful Lambda engine is supposed to start at well under 30 grand. But 29,995 is for the V8. With a discount once the initial hoopla wears off, you could probably pick one up for less than that if you don't go crazy with options.
Oh, and they are saying that the V8 will produce more than 300 hp. That's just the number they are quoting for now. I say right on.
I just wouldn't have expected this from Hyundai. I am shocked.
I just hope they don't bastardize it from now until production version is finalized. That would be bad.

Here's a paragraph directly from the article. The V8 version will not start at $29,995. The V6 will, which is important because it still positions the car above the Azera. Something tells me this car will be priced at around $33-35K to start; the same area as the 300C, upcoming Pontiac G8 STP, and Impala V8 (SS, I guess).
"Here's the zinger: Hyundai sources expect the V-6 version to start at under $30,000, or roughly in line with a well-equipped Azera. The V-8? No one's saying, but even if Hyundai charged a $5000 premium for the bigger engine and beefier transmission, we're still looking at a large, fast sport-luxury sedan for about the same money as an entry-level 3 Series or Lexus IS 350."

V8 sticker price will probably be around 37k, but i'm sure it can be had for around 33k few months after the launch.

I'm with you on the design PureAdrenaline. And it isn't just cause I'm korean either. Even the honda/toyota lovers have to agree, you have to give it up to Hyundai. In the past 5 years, they have come a LONG LONG way in quality, design and now even performance.
I would've never dreamed of Hyundai creating a RWD V8 Luxury Sport Sedan before Acura.
Honestly, IMO Acura owners really shouldn't be clowning on Hyundai. Everyone who buys a TL claims that "oh it's a better buy than a Lexus because..." blah blah. I was one of those guys as well when I got my TL-S at a tender age of 20. But you know... the TL isn't such a great buy anymore; the new TL-S is a bit too pricey IMO. And it's performance hasn't changed much in the past 7 years; still the same SOHC "J series" Engine with FWD And after owning a 2nd Gen TL, my faith in Acura/Honda's reliability has changed quite a bit.
My philosphy. Don't knock it till you've tried it. And when this comes stateside, I definitely will be trying it.
BTW, I highly doubt that there will be a Tiburon V8. The Tibby is actually a Rally inspired car. I think the original Tibby Rally car was an AWD Turbo I4? I can't remember.
BUT I will definitely anticipate a Powerful Luxury SPort Coupe from Hyundai. Lord knows that category of cars is currently dead... with a a Luxury SPort Coupe with a V8 priced at 30k... geez.. Lets not get ahead of ourselves... lets just be glad with what they've done so far.
