Its really disturbing when you can't get a 4 cylinder SUV for under 30K CAD. A V6? try mid 30's and up. V8? forgettaboutit.
My parents neighbour just picked up a Nissan Murano and all I can remmeber thinking is you paid 45K for this? While parked next to her husbands 05 Altima that has the same engine and cost 35k???

Its looks a lot like the h2, but I think the h2 design has already lost a lot of its trendy appeal( like the beetle or pt cruiser) so I'm already bored with the h3 design. The price is rediculous, at 24k it would be great going up against the liberty/ frontier/etc, but 35k, thats crazy.

The markup is crazy. That's probably the only thing keeping the big 3 alive now.
I have to say that I think the H2 and H3 look good. However, this doesn't keep me from wanting to every one of their drivers. Everytime I see a soccer mom 4 feet above me driving an H2 while on a cell phone, I die a little bit inside.

HUMMER Going Global with H3 - - By Paul A. Eisenstein - - Source: The Car Connection
In a bid to turn HUMMER into a truly global brand, General Motors will invest $100 million in its Struandale, South Africa, assembly plant to launch production of the new H3 sport-utility vehicle. Production is scheduled in begin in the latter months of 2006, and when the plant is fully up-and-running, it will assemble both left- and right-hand-drive versions of the H3, with both gasoline and diesel powertrains. "This is part of our strategy to make Hummer a premium brand globally," said Susan Docherty, HUMMER's new general manager. The "iconic" nature of the brand, she added, is "something GM definitely needs to capitalize on."
HUMMER already exports a small number of H1 and H2 models, which are currently being produced at a plant near South Bend, Ind. The smaller H3 will be built at a GM facility in Shreveport, La. Initially, it will provide a limited number of exports, but once the South African facility ramps up, it will take over as HUMMER's global H3 production base.
Plans call for the Struandale facility to assemble as many as 10,000 H3s annually. The downsized ute is expected to be HUMMER's big seller both here and abroad. Docherty said that once both H3 plants are up to speed, HUMMER sales could climb to 80,000 annually "in a two to three-year timeframe." That would nearly triple 2004 volume, when HUMMER sales dropped about 17 percent, to just 28,898. The macho brand peaked in 2003, when demand for the over-the-top H2 pushed total HUMMER sales to 34,529.
Whether HUMMER can hit its target remains to be seen. Few brands are more polarizing. For fans, it's the ultimate statement of rugged individualism. For others, though, it's the pinnacle of gas-guzzling excess. Yet, even with U.S. fuel prices soaring to record levels, Docherty noted that she is actually increasing production plans for the H2 over the next few months. Overseas, HUMMER officials believe the brand has not been tarnished by the environmental backlash - though a fuel-stingy diesel powertrain is likely to be a popular option in Europe. In fact, Germany is expected to be the largest HUMMER market outside the U.S.

More brilliant strategery. Just when the price of gas is peaking around the world GM is touting its gas guzzler. After the first year novelty wears off GM will be right back to square one.

It's a good idea. The only place that's getting sticker shock at the pump is in the U.S. Other contries, expecially underdeveloped ones, by rugged SUVs for getting around in. It looks like GM is setting the brand up to be a premium, rugged compeitior to Land Rover. Having the diesels is a given, and will probably be the big seller. It's a smart move, strategically. The rest of the world isn't saturated with SUVs like they are in the U.S.

General Motors' Hummer brand says its new mid-sized H3 SUV will have a base price of $29,500. That includes a destination charge of $565.

consumers reply with a base bid of "fck u".
Its gonna be pretty sad when some consumers end up paying that $ for a chevy colorado or in reality an isuzu design3d truck with gm plastic.

Hummer Pitches New H3 to Women
Hummer Pitches New H3 to Women

General Motors has a lot riding on the new vehicle and its marketing push, which begins this weekend. Sales of the gas-guzzling Hummer brand skidded 17% last year, as gasoline prices soared. What's more, the military-styled vehicles became lightning rods for environmentalist and advocacy groups.
Unlike the brawny H1 Alpha -- modeled after the military's Humvees -- and the massive H2, Hummer is trying to make the H3 truck also appeal to women and young couples, in hopes of capturing a bigger portion of sales.
One spot, created by Modernista, an independent ad firm based in Boston, tells a modern version of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears." In the commercial, three bears return to their cool-looking, contemporary house to find someone has been rummaging around. They run to their garage. The papa bear's H1 Alpha and the mama bear's H2 are undisturbed, but the baby bear's vehicle is gone.
Then Goldilocks, who looks to be in her 20s, is shown behind the wheel of the little bear's H3. The spot will run on female-targeted programs such as "Desperate Housewives," which airs on Walt Disney's ABC. A print ad, expected to appear in woman-aimed magazines such as American Media's Shape, shows the H3 and carries the headline "Available in the petite section."
The new creative direction is a U-turn from the male-targeted ad executions with which Hummer has become synonymous in the past few years. Who could forget the company's most famous commercial, set to the Who's "Happy Jack," which shows a boy entering a soapbox derby on a hillside? The youngster builds a rugged mini-Hummer, winning both the race and the heart of the girl next door.
Shifting ad gears carries some risk. When a product is so closely associated with a specific target, any change in direction might cause the core audience to abandon the brand. Hummer says it's making only minor adjustments and knows the risks. "Most women will buy a male-oriented product, but most men wouldn't be caught dead buying a female-oriented product," says Liz Vanzura, Hummer's marketing director.
While the company declines to disclose what it will spend to promote the new vehicle, the Hummer brand received $133.2 million in ad time and space in 2004, according to TNS Media Intelligence, a New York research company.
The new Hummer ads will have to work overtime to stand out in a midsize-SUV segment that's beginning to look like a traffic jam. DaimlerChrysler's Jeep, whose redesigned Grand Cherokee offers a more powerful engine than the H3, will introduce this fall the larger Jeep Commander, a military-styled vehicle that will go head-to-head against Hummer. The fall also brings a new Explorer SUV from Ford Motor, and Asian car makers are hopping on the bandwagon with new offerings in the segment.
Hummer isn't depending just on the feminine touch to jump-start sales. Ads will prominently display the H3's slimmer starting price tag of $29,500. It's a far cry from the H1 Alpha, which has a 300-horsepower diesel engine and can set you back $140,000, and the H2, which sells for about $50,000.
More importantly, some H3 ads will ballyhoo the vehicle's fuel economy. While the ads won't directly state the mileage the new vehicle gets (about 20 miles a gallon), the information will be included in the company's Web effort. Providing fuel data is a startling reversal for Hummer, which has long been mum on fuel facts. Indeed, the auto maker has never disclosed the H2's fuel-consumption figures, though estimates suggest the truck gets about 10 miles a gallon.
To be sure, some of the new H3 ads will continue to home in on the muscle-bound set. One new spot introducing the vehicle, for example, shows a young couple using the H3 to go off-roading. The spot debuts during perhaps the polar opposite of "Desperate Housewives": this weekend's coverage of the National Football League draft, on Disney's ESPN. "Especially with a brand that is very male-oriented, it has to be the same head-turning product," says Susan Docherty, Hummer's general manager.

Slightly off topic:
On the way to the airport today I see this H2 tailgating people. He is really in a hurry and looked faster than stock so I thought I'd see what's up. With 3rd on the sportshift and several times doing 80-115 and even 4rth a couple of times all the way to 125mph, this thing was slightly slower than my stock CLS and only at the very upper range of my rev band. Wow!
There is something special in seeing a huge monster like this be so fast on the highway.
I am sure it was heavily modified with at least a supercharger in there.

Hummer's H3 thrives in slow SUV market despite higher gas prices - - JAMIE LAREAU | Automotive News - - Source: Autoweek
DETROIT -- General Motors, like the rest of the industry, has seen SUV sales crash. But Hummer has managed to hit its launch targets for the mid-sized H3.
Hummer sold 4,054 H3s in September and 18,290 since launching it in late May.
Last year Susan Docherty, Hummer's general manager, projected about 25,000 H3 sales this year.
The H3 has Hummer's in-your-face styling, but with a smaller size, decent fuel efficiency and a lower price, Docherty says.
"Anything that was our Achilles heel in this brand has been addressed in the H3," Docherty told Automotive News.
For example, the H3 gets 20 mpg on the highway, compared with its larger sibling, the H2, which gets about 16 mpg, Docherty says.
The H3 has a 37-foot turning radius, beating the H2's 43.5-foot turning radius.
Also, it fits into most garages -- a complaint about the H1 and H2, she adds.
And 42 percent of H3 buyers are women compared with 26.3 percent with the H2, Docherty says.
Rob Huth, sales manager of Hummer of Orlando, Fla., sells 80 to 90 H3s a month. He says its popularity comes down to price.
"It's a less expensive vehicle yet shares the same parameters of the other two vehicles," Huth says. The H3 starts at $29,500, including shipping. The H2 starts at $53,855, including shipping.
Total Hummer sales for the first nine months of this year rose 82.5 percent to 37,017, from 20,284 in 2004. Docherty has said she plans to sell "north of 50,000" Hummers this year.
That would be a stark contrast to the industry at large in which U.S. automakers saw truck-based SUV sales plunge 32.2 percent in September compared with September 2004.
Analysts credit much of that drop to high fuel prices.
"SUV buyers are at a point of waiting to see what happens," Jim Hall, vice president for industry sales at AutoPacific Inc. in Southfield, Mich., told Automotive News. "The H3 is a cusp vehicle for buyers sitting on the edge deciding whether they want to commit to a large SUV or not. This gives them a way to go."
