This is the dash of the USA offered 2003 S2000 with the 2.0 engine.
This is the one from the pic above which I believe must be, still the 2.0 engine but from the 2004 year car. Obviously different. So the statement above about Japan getting both engines makes sense.

I'm torn. The 9k redline rocks. Then Honda took one of the most extreme cars on the road and made it a little less extreme. Well, here's the thing...I don't think I'd hit the 9k redline too often anyway. It might almost be worth it for me to suffer some RPMs for more torque.
But this engine choice seems to be pretty much "six in one, half dozen in the other". I mean, the performance is probably going to be pretty similar. One's rockin', the other is easier to drive.

well the 04 is supposedly a quicker car than the 03 2.0....supposedly can get 0-60 in the mid 5s versus 5.8 for the 2.0...I dont remember where I read it, but it seems very plausible in my eyes
i hope Beltfed gets one

hmmm, i think it was Honda themselves that stated that the 0-60 improved by 0.3 seconds when interviewed by the magazine

2.2liter all the way, I like the 00-03 S2k.....but in congestive NY traffic the car drives like a Civic.
More torque at lower rpms is what it needed.
You can keep the 9k redline, like 8k is something to sneeze at.
Most of the people who are so concerned about the 9k redline are 1) Anal S2k owners that say the 9k redline was the only thing that made the S2k unique and 2) Current S2k owners who are just looking for something to bitch about, because they won't come out and admit the changes made were for the better.

good points
i really like the new 04 and the bonus is that it will be quicker than the 00-03 in almost all categories and handle even better....now the only thing that is a bit weird is that the compression ratio has been increased along w/the displacement....i wonder how the new engine will bode when it comes to s/c or turboing it
Beltfed, if u decide 2 get one...let me know, I have a SICK hookup at a long island honda dealership...

Motor Trend tests 2004 Honda S2000 - Acceleration Inside
Motor Trend says that the gear ratio for 1st thru 4th are shorter, but 5th and 6th are longer than the previous year car.
The result is more lively response in everday driving conditions. Makes sense.
0-60 = 5.7 sec
1/4 mile = 13.86 @ 99.72 mph
60-0 = 118 feet
Skidpad = 0.86 g
600 ft slalom = 69.0 mph

The MPH might be a little low, but it's probably more a function of the car getting out of the hole so quickly.
That being said, it is MotorTrend...but damn, those numbers are sweet...lets hope real people can back them up on the street.
Does anyone have a scan or a link to the full test of the 04?

The new 2004 Honda s2000 has totally revised front headlights, redone front and rear bumpers (slight changes in the grill on the front and the back bumper is all painted now instead of the black piece that used to be there). Also, the interior has a lot of aluminum accents that were not on any of the previous models. Also the wheels are different (they're not those BBS ones on the pic)
I'll find pics and post them up later. I just went to the dealer to look at one today and got the brochure.

why are some of you hatin on the extra displacement
everyone has always said the s2k needs more torque, and now u got it and your complaining now, 9k redline means no torque and u have to drive the fuck out of it and keep it in the right gear to get a kick out of it
the more displacement the better, they should make a s2k coupe, i really aint diggin the drop
