Another dumb question, why the heck did it take Honda so long to release this beast. They released the RDX/CRV back to back, what gives?

As for this concept. Needs a new grill, headlights prob arent production, otherwise its following the boxy SUV trend, and I actually kind of like it, just need to see the interior. Its WAY better the current Pilot.
So, where exactly are the designs going backwards?

The Accords on the other hand are debatable. The coupe is "nice" but the sedan is lacking. It's not really ground breaking at all.
...and the Accord sedan turns your head?!?!? Seriously, now.
The current Pilot was and this generation looks like it was copied from bits and pieces from other Mfg.

2009 Honda Pilot Scores Lousy w/ Consumers
When the Honda Pilot first debuted back in 2002, truck-based SUVs were still quite popular. While the Pilot used unibody construction rather than the typical body-on-frame construction found in most SUVs of the time, its chunky exterior gave it the look of a true truck. However, since 2002 a lot has changed and most crossover buyers now want a sleek, stylish exterior — something Honda apparently forgot to account for in the redesign of their 2009 Pilot.
When Honda took the wraps off of its 2009 Pilot prototype — basically a pre-production vehicle — it was met with a lukewarm reception. The Pilot's styling seemed to be missing any elements that really stood out and, overall, the design was considered boring. Apparently, consumers feel the same way.
According to a report conducted by CNW Research, the new Pilot "scored lousy" with consumers. The 2009 Pilot managed to only score a 7.5 on a 12 point scale. Typical scores for new vehicles usually range from 8.7 to 9.
"Mostly, people said it was boring — there was nothing distinctive about it to them in a positive way," Art Spinella, president of CNW, told Edmunds.
He continued by saying consumers surveyed "were not really crazy about any particular part of the exterior. Normally you don't see that with a new car; some feature will turn them on. But this [lukewarm reaction] was pretty much 360 degrees."
Honda is no stranger to new models that don't make a good impression with consumers. When Honda unveiled it Advanced Sports Car Concept at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show, it was met with less-than-favorable reviews and prompted Honda designers to go back to the drawing board, delaying the car's launch.
Honda hasn't announced any plans as radical as that, but the Japanese automaker has to at least be a little bit concerned, especially considering the Pilot's sales were off 20% in 2007.

That's rough, the front end kills it. The grill and headlights look absurd.

I'm not a fan of any of Honda/Acura SUV's anymore. The MDX is alright, but even though the RDX is bigger than the EX35 and better priced, the styling on the RDX is lousy. The grille on the RDX and the taillights are my biggest gripe on the RDX. The grille doesn't look like it flows with the rest of the front and why didn't they use another tailights design on the back? It just looks like the RSX and TSX 4 circular taillight cluster.

Eh
I think my biggest complaint is just the sheet metal -- it's very flat & plain. I guess this is the style nowadays bc the new Highlander has less character lines than the previous model as well. This Pilot has like none, just bling bling it up a bit. I also like the squarish shape for C/SUVs but I guess I'm in the minority.

At least we can say Honda is consistant with their designs lately:
They are just plain bad.

Well, I was planning on getting the wife one of these.... WAS!!! Its funny, I was really geared up for this and although I don't think it is a miserable failure, I'm certainly not impressed by it at all. Lukewarm might be a bit more than I feel as well. Had the concept drawing come to life, I'd feel differently.

Ahhh the SRX...I can remember the first time I saw one live. Even the lady who drove it must've felt ridiculous. I can understand someone in a Toyota Land Cruiser not feeling jaded when a Lexus LX470 pulls up next to it. The Land Cruiser is every bit as plush and posh as its Lexus sibling.
But the Trooper...must've been hard to stare at the Acura logo on the steering wheel and wondering why the rest of the car didn't even feel like a Honda.

lol...it's SLX...
I think the only people who won out of that deal was Isuzu...as they got a well built Odyssey and Domani. While Honda had to deal with angry Honda Passport and Acura SLX owners.

Early look: 2009 Honda Pilot spotted
The 2009 Pilot's new body features the most extensive use of high-strength steel in any Honda product to date. This provides enhanced collision safety and better off-road durability.
The Pilot originally debuted as a 2003 model in July of 2002. Design and development of the 2003 Pilot and the 2009 Pilot were carried out at Honda R&D Americas in Raymond, Ohio, and Torrance, California. The Pilot is assembled at Honda Manufacturing of Alabama in Lincoln.
A new V6 engine introduces the latest generation of Honda fuel-saving Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) technology that operates in 6-cylinder mode for power and 4- and 3-cylinder modes for efficiency, an improvement compared to the existing Pilot's available VCM system that works exclusively in 6- and 3-cylinder modes.

With the 2009 Honda Pilot receiving its official debut in just a week, these spy photos might seem a little late in the game. Luckily, they show the new crossover with no disguise, effectively giving us an early look at the redesigned model.
The new Pilot was previewed with a concept version at the Detroit auto show in January. Based on an entirely new platform, the eight-seater offers more legroom and overall occupant space for all passengers. It also has more cargo space and easier access to the third row.
The 60/40 split second row, now more spacious, slides further forward for increased ease of access to the third row. The 60/40 split third row, now supplies enough knee room for an above-average-sized adult male to fit comfortably. Each side of the second and third row independently folds down for cargo. A flat floor is created when the second and third rows are folded down. The 2009 Pilot's new body features the most extensive use of high-strength steel in any Honda product to date. This provides enhanced collision safety and better off-road durability.

In-freaking-credile that the Pilot Touring has front and rear parking sensors (along with a backup camera) while the MDX does not.
Excellent planning, Honda & Acura, excellent.

I like it. Just needs a new or blacked out grill.
The blue metallic interior wont make it to the prod version either I hope.

A bit too square and I'm not feeling the grille, but it probably looks better in person. It's not the nicest looking thing out there, but not the ugliest, either. Meh.
