Honda Recalling 900k Odyssey Vans - Fire Risk

Honda has announced the recall of nearly 900,000 Odyssey minivans in the United States due to a fuel pump issue that could result in a vehicle fire.

According to Honda, Odyssey vans produced at the company's Alabama plant between June 23, 2004, and September 4, 2010, may have been fitted with a fuel pump strainer cover that is susceptible to cracking. If the cover fails, it could lead to a fuel leak and subsequent vehicle fire.

Honda is still tracking down a possible culprit for the cracking fuel pump parts, but the automaker is currently investigating chemicals from car washes and materials used in fertilizers and dust control products, according to Reuters.

^^ Maybe you can get your tastic Oddy to catch on fire thanks to that reliable honda quality, and cash in the insurance claim

dom, seriously now....do yourself a favor and kick the oddy to the curb.
Best thing I ever did....never been happier.

900,000?

So they're basically recalling every Odyssey sold in the US. during that period.

No can do. If I leave it outside in this cold, it's starts throwing codes and goes into limp mode. I'll just have to live with the risk of it burning down my house so my wife can take the kids to school in the morning.

Its actually a couple of sensors that freeze and fail. Apparently they're prone to moisture. When the temps dip to below zero they can freeze. It happened twice earlier this winter. Since I've been parking it in the garage it hasn't happened.

Statement by American Honda Regarding Side Curtain Airbag Recall: 2014 Honda Odyssey

05/01/2014 - TORRANCE, Calif.

Honda will voluntarily recall 24,889 model-year 2014 Odyssey vehicles in the United States to replace the shorting coupler, an electrical component in the side curtain airbag system, free of charge. During assembly of the electrical coupler for the side curtain airbag on the passenger's side of the vehicle, it is possible that the shorting terminal, which is used to prevent deployment of the airbag before it is assembled into the vehicle, may have been damaged. A damaged shorting terminal may illuminate the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) indicator as well as prevent the side curtain airbag from deploying during a crash, increasing the risk of injury. No crashes or injuries have been reported related to this issue, which was discovered through warranty repairs.

Honda is announcing this recall to encourage all owners that purchased an affected vehicle to take it to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Honda. Mailed notification to customers will begin on May 16, 2014. In addition to contacting customers by mail, at that time, owners of these vehicles will be able to determine if their vehicles require repair by going to www.recalls.honda.com or by calling (800) 999-1009, and selecting option 4.

Post Spied: 5th generation Honda Odyssey (using MDX parts)

Just saw this on Autoblog and didn't see it posted here. Mods feel free to delete or move if this is a repost.

Is Acura working on a premium minivan? - Autoblog

Here's a vehicle that nobody saw coming. Unless Honda/Acura is keen to play tricks on us, our spy shooters recently caught what appears to be an Acura minivan fully camouflaged for testing on some back roads on a rainy day.

Details on the disguised minivan are rather scarce, but it certainly bares all the hallmarks of an Acura. The front grille alone gives it away with a look that mimics the latest MDX, and note that the orientation of the rear door handle heavily suggests that it slides to open. Moving inside, the tester appears to borrow some tech from the luxury brand's parts bin too, and the Acura logo seems to be covered in tape right in the middle of the steering wheel.

Mechanically, our spies believe that the production version of Acura's minivan might borrow the brand's V6, nine-speed automatic and Super Handling All-Wheel Drive – a similar layout to some trims of the TLX. The photographers also think that the vehicle is a little wider than the current Honda Odyssey to give occupants a bit more room. Given the more luxurious focus, the high-end model would surely carry seven people with a bit more opulence than the standard Odyssey, especially, we'd imagine, for second-row passengers. A launch for this posh hauler could be slated for the 2016 or 2017 model years.

Acura is certainly choosing an interesting time to test the waters for a premium people mover. According to a report earlier this year, crossovers are eating into minivan sales overall, but the loaded-up, premium versions continue to sell well. Maybe the luxury brand is reading those tea leaves for this high-end entry.

To draw peoples eyes away from the polarizing beak/shield, they decided to stack 5 rotors on the roof as a distraction.

Any way this could be the next gen Odyssey that's just using parts from the Acura parts bin since it's just a test mule? Supposedly the new MDX doesn't share the same platform with the Odyssey anymore. Maybe the next gen Odyssey will use the MDX platform to save costs?

Looks that way....

2014 Acura MDX First Drive - Motor Trend

A key piece to the MDX's rise in refinement and performance is the lighter, stronger, and safer structure. Completely new, the platform, which will underpin the next-gen Honda Pilot and Odyssey, utilizes Acura's latest ACE safety structure and the first application of a one-piece hot-stamped door ring, with both helping the MDX achieve what Acura predicts will be a five-star safety score from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS.

Spied: Acura's upcoming luxury minivan | New and Used Car Reviews, Research & Automotive-Industry News & LeftLaneNews

You read that right -- if these spy shots are to be believed, Acura has begun work on an up-scale version of the Honda Odyssey minivan. The prototype in question is clearly wearing Acura's signature shield grill and jewel headlights to go along with its sliding side doors and large rear hatch.

The prototype also appears to have plenty of Acura DNA inside as its cabin is very similar in design to the MDX crossover. Look closely and you'll even see what appears to be an Acura 'A' on the center of the steering wheel.

According to our sources, Acura will differentiate its minivan from the Odyssey by including standard all-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic transmission. Power will be provided by a V6, while a hybrid option is a possibility. The interior of the Acura minivan will also be more luxurious than its Honda counterpart with a greater emphasis on second-row comfort.

The idea of a luxury minivan might seem a little absurd at first blush, but the notion could have legs. Top-end minivans currently list for around $50,000, so the market isn't totally adverse to spending big money on well-equipped people haulers. An Acura badge would also provide a little more exclusivity to the mass-market minivan segment.

The Mercedes-Benz R-Class comes to mind as a recently failure in the luxury MPV segment, but that vehicle was more crossover than true minivan. With its sliding doors and Odyssey underpinning, the Acura minivan would undoubtedly be positioned as a premium van.

If the Acura minivan actually does come to fruition, expect to see it by the 2016 or 2017 model year.

Acura has finally thrown in the last straw I believe on designing anything I would ever want since I don't believe the NSX is real.

As if a 50k Odyssey isnt enough, lets make a Premium version for Acura and ring the price tag closer to 70k for mom to drive the kids to soccer. Im so glad Acura has their priorities in order. Guess we will work on the RLX and ILX, a Coupe and eventually 30 years later the NSX.

Even if they started this a couple years ago, the R-class sales were pretty bad then. Wonder why Acura has taken this to rolling vehicle concept?

Relax fellas!

Study those pics really well for a few minutes.

Single tailpipe, no sun/moonroof(we all know all Acura has those standard!), those truckish looking rear taillights. Those rotors on the roof(really, honda?!!)

I'd say that's a test mule for the next Ridgeline. And that's a really clever disguise!
