Looks like Honda is focused on becoming another Toyota: Good for the mainstream, bad for the enthusiasts. Thank God for Nissan.

First of, we know about the NSX. It's in the NSX thread. But a new sports vehicle ala-575M is in the works supposedly.

We also know about the S2000. It's in the S2000 thread or some other thread. But they said that there will be an upper scale roadster, possibly using the Acura brand name and/or the addition of the CRX to cover the void in the inexpensive market space.

Finally, Car Mag did not say that the Type Rs will be killed, it said that they are under threat. In Europe they care much more about the Type R range because they got a Civic, an Integra and an Accord Type R vehicles. Also, this news comes from the UK, which refers to the UK market.

So it's not all that new, nor detrimental from what I am reading.

That's correct. The European market and North American market are totally difference. The European NSX's are under Honda. So they have Honda NSX, not Acura NSX. I don't know if it is still the case now.

The American Honda division has been making huge profits year after year, whereas the European Honda division is starting to get better.

.
It is still the case. The NSX was never called an Acura in Europe. There is no Acura outside N. America.

Good point. But I bet certification would be a problem with added cost.

Can't they just put on a few performance parts, slap on a type R badgeand watch the profits roll in? I mean, think of all the little ricer kiddies who will finally be able to buy an actual type R instead of embarresing themselves by putting the badges on their civics and what not.

If a Honda Civic had an A-spec badge, I think even the ricers would make fun of him/her.

But since you mention it, I wonder if we can expect an EL A-Spec up in Canada (to go with the Touring and Premium models).

I suspect this may be the trend : there will be no more type-R because all cars will become type-S. Look at the new TL. It is actually the old TL-S. The new RSX could be the current RSX-S. So there will not be any low volume production problem.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did kill off the S2K and the ricey Civic Si both aren't selling as well as they used to. Honda wants to focus more on SUVs and MPVs, like what GM did in the mid-90s. I hope that isn't the path they're going to take...I would really want to see a sports car or something in their line up. It will be a sad day when the last NSX rolls off the line.

As for the gay, dull, and uninspiring 7th gen Civics, Honda needs to make them more sporty....and add four wheel disc brakes! wtf?!? is with the new Civic SE, racing inspired my a$$, its just a LX with spoiler, better rims, and SE badges, something that isn't sporty at all...ick!

As long as Honda keeps their heads in the gutter and don't realize there is a market for sporty cars. The enthusiasts will have to look elsewhere for something fun, fast, and sporty. This will be a wake up call for them and they might bring back cars like the S2K and Prelude.

The S2000 is too good of a car not to have a successor. Might not be a Honda and maybe not a 4 cyl. either, but it gained Honda so much cred. that I doubt they'll discontinue it. Lets just watch.

Yes, Nissan's on a roll and they're making a few excellent vehicles at the moment, but even as a joke, that's the least informed statement about the automotive industry I've heard in weeks.

Now a sad commentary would be Honda ceasing production of a performance Civic (CTR/Si) when Toyota just introduced a performance Corolla (XRS).
