Honda: Euro Accord news **Type S Revealed (page 2)**

· Cool materials in Geneva Accord Special
· 19-inch alloy wheels
· Racing seats
· 250 bhp we believe

IF MAZDA IS able to create a Evo-chaser out of their 6, so are we able to build an even cooler Evo of our Accord! The theme for this unique sports study model of the Honda Accord is "Muscle-Tech Design". This car is a true performance saloon, enhancing the sporty "spirit" of the Honda Accord.

Its powerful and strong body presence draws attention but the look is complemented by top quality materials. Aluminium, carbon fibre and leather are used extensively.

The dynamic front bumper shape creates an aggressive expression, as does the rear bumper with its air diffuser.

The extreme "sporty" character translates itself into carbon fibre aero parts and 19-inch alloy wheels. In combination with the wide wheel arches, with a wide track, it creates a bold, eye- catching look.

The high standard of materials for the exterior was also applied to the interior. Aluminium, leather and Alcantara™ were used extensively on sport seats, the 3 spoke steering wheel, meter dials and gear shift knob.

Honda does not mention the output of the car – our guess is around 250 bhp, which is an easy skill for at tuned more than 2-litre Honda 4-cyl. inline.

FACTS
· Honda Accord Muscle-Tech
· Show car for Geneva 2003
· Aluminium, carbon fibre, leather
· 19-inch alloy wheels
· 4-cyl. inline, 250 bhp*

the fender flares are a little too much, but the front looks mean. And the rear is sweet with central exhaust outlets.

250hp in a 4cyl 4door? I hope this engine has more than 140-150 ft/lbs of torque. Or it'll slow down a ton with 4 people in it.

And I agree, it looks like a photoshop job. Or very odd lighting.

It is ugly, looks almost like a Toyota Matrix wannabe. It is jacked all the way up off the ground, and it has that disgusting body kit, wrapped in those horrible looking wheels. Ughhh...

Another Accord Euro review (Australia)

Came across this today. Doesn't look like it's been mentioned here before. Bottom line for the impatient:

If you want a refined and exciting driving experience, excellent build quality and more than a little style all in a four-cylinder auto, the Accord Euro puts it all together for a good price.

Accord, Euro style

Enjoy.

Honda Accord ADAS - - By Sam Hardy - -Source: Autoexpress

Not so long ago, cars that drove themselves were the stuff of Hollywood fantasy - but not any more. Next year, you will be able to buy a regular family saloon capable of performing Herbie-like tricks without the help of special effects.

Meet ADAS: Honda's Advanced Driver Assistance System. Consisting of two active safety devices - Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and a Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) - it will be optional on the revised Accord, due in the spring.

It's claimed the set-up will make high-speed motoring much safer and easier - and Auto Express took the wheel of a specially equipped 2005 model-year Accord to see what's on offer.

We didn't take long to realise the hype is justified - LKAS is a big step towards a vehicle that drives itself. Designed to stop motorists falling asleep at the wheel, it uses a camera by the rear view mirror to monitor white lines either side of the car on motorways and A-roads.

Cross the lines without indicating and a warning beep is emitted. But the really clever part is that, if the driver's hands are on the wheel through a long bend, LKAS turns automatically, keeping the car in its lane. It sends signals to the power-steering, which then moves the wheel. The result is remarkable. It's strange to feel the steering turn itself, but motorway driving becomes more relaxing, as the camera reacts faster than the human eye to minor changes in road curvature, setting the car up for corners with slight steering angles.

So it's a pity Honda's adaptive cruise control isn't up to the same standard. As with BMW, Mercedes and Nissan systems, it uses radar to maintain a set distance from the car ahead, automatically accelerating or decelerating, and even applying the brakes.

But as in rivals, progress can be jerky. Where most drivers would lift off if a slow-moving vehicle appeared in the distance, ACC maintains speed until that car comes into range, then applies the anchors. Nor will it save you from an impending crash, as the system requires the driver to take over in an emergency, limiting braking force to 0.3g.

However, ACC does offer increased safety over conventional cruise control. How much the entire ADAS option will cost is still unknown, but we would estimate Ł1,000. For high-mileage drivers, it makes a lot of sense and could mean the difference between life and death.

All of these electronic nannies are starting to get out of hand. Look at all of the complaints enthusiasts have about the VDIM in the IS and GS. I wonder what the take rate is for the Lane Departure Warning system in the Infiniti M.

with biker. Too many electronic nannies and not enough real driving going on. Have we really become so lazy that we don't even want to do our own driving?

I dont see this as an electro nanny at all. This will be useful if it works well. Even to enthusiasts. Because if you're on 101 in San Fran and be in the middle lane and have two semis on both sides, there is zero chance of making a mistake with the steering. Lanes are super narrow.

Thumbs up Euro Honda Accord Type S

Honda announced today that it will unveil a more powerful and sportier looking version of its Accord Euro at next month’s Geneva Motor Show. The car is the new Accord Euro ‘Type S’ and it is set to go on sale in Europe later this year in both Sedan and Tourer bodystyles.

The Type S is based on the 2.2L i-DTEC diesel-powered Accord Euro but features more power thanks to a revised turbocharger, cylinder head and larger intercooler. Final output will stand at 180hp (134kW) – 30hp (22kW) more than the standard model. Peak torque has also increased 22lb-ft (30Nm) to 280lb-ft (380Nm), which comes on at a relatively low 2000rpm.

To set apart the Type S from the standard fleet, the car will come with newly designed 18in alloy wheels, clear indicator covers, unique badging and two new exterior colors – White Pearl and Basque Red.

Performance, pricing, fuel economy and emissions data will be available closer to the vehicle’s launch planned for later this year.

Isn't it interesting that they are calling it Type S? Why do they want to use the term "Type S" in both Honda and Acura vehicles, when they claim that they are trying to create a clear identity for Acura? I just don't get it...

Mind you, this is exciting news for the European Accord!

Type S has been used on JDM/Euro Honda's for a while (before Acura adopted it). Acura is pretty much just an extension of Honda Europe in the US. It's kinda like Saturn to GM.

Then for crying out loud, call it something else here! LOL! Type T, Type Z, Type Q, whatever!!! LOL! It's just weird to me that they use the same name for the 2 brands.

BTW, what does "FTL" mean?

This makes you wonder what the press conference at the Chicago Auto Show next week is about. I know the diesel has basically been killed for NA production. My money is still on the V6 for the TSX, but with this move for Geneva, Im a bit confused as to what Acura will bring to the table for us.

saying type s makes it sound like a racer boy, too much like type r and yes i know all type r hondas are amazing but they need something more upscale than that

Ditto. This is pretty much the engine we were going to get here, and it would be sweet. I hope they still consider bringing it over here in time.

I guess now that fuel prices have dropped, they don't think people will be as interested in a diesel. They're probably also concerned about the price premium in this economy -- especially due to the NOx removal system.

Yea, but they need to figure out a way to make the diesel coupled to the auto tranny pass smog. Right now, it's only the manual that can do it.

Post Honda bringing sportier Accord Euro Type S to Geneva show

From Leftlanenews...

Honda has announced that it will be bringing a sportier version of its Accord Euro to the 2009 Geneva Motor Show. Based on the 2.2L i-DTEC diesel version of the Accord Euro, the new model promises to give buyers a little more performance while still delivering excellent fuel economy.

Called the Accord Euro Type S, the new model will hit the European market just after its Geneva debut. Power for the Type S will be sourced from the same 2.2L mill found in the standard diesel Accord, but will be massaged to deliver an extra 30 horsepower – bringing total power to 180 ponies. Torque is also up – 22 lb-ft to a stout 280 lb-ft – which should give the Accord Euro Type S some extra grunt off the line.

To add to the Type S’ sportier nature, Honda will fit the sedan with 18 inch wheels, clear turning indicators, special badging and will offer the Type S with two new exterior colors — White Pearl and Basque Red.

No other details were given – such as fuel economy or price – but expect to find out all the details closer to the car’s launch.

Although the Accord Euro is a completely separate car from the Accord model we get in the U.S., it is closely related to our Acura TSX. Acura has been contemplating offering a diesel-powered TSX in America, with the sportier Type S’ powerplant standing as the most logical candidate. However, Acura has reportedly put its U.S. diesel plans on hold due to emissions issues, so only time will tell.
