Honda/Acura July 04 Sales

Acura Posts July Record and Third Best Sales Month In History
TL, TSX and MDX Have Record-Setting Month

Torrance, Calif. 08/03/2004 -- Acura sales of 17,057 units were up 4.1 percent over last year, setting a new July record and marking the division's third best sales month ever, Acura announced today. Year-to-date sales totaled 113,795 vehicles representing a 15.8 percent increase versus 2003.

For the tenth month in a row, the TL performance luxury sedan was Acura's top-selling model, selling 6,282 units, with sales up 47.5 percent compared to last July. Year-to-date TL sales surged to 45,183, a 43.9 percent increase over 2003, making TL the best selling performance luxury sedan in the country.

The TSX sports sedan enjoyed its second best month ever with sales of 3,514, while also posting a record July. Year-to-date TSX sales reached 18,266. Continued strong demand for the MDX luxury SUV helped boost sales to 4,767 for the month, setting a new July record. Year-to-date sales of the MDX reached 33,129.

"Bolstered by its strongest product line-up ever, Acura is having the hottest summer of its history," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president, auto sales. "With the addition of an all-new RL and updated RSX this fall, Acura will be hotter than ever."
Additional Acura information and downloadable high-resolution images are available at www.acuranews.com.

All percentages are based on 27 selling days for this month versus 26 days for last July and 180 days year-to-date versus 178 for 2003.

Torrance, Calif. 08/03/2004 -- Total American Honda vehicle sales of 129,872 set a new July record to help maintain a record year-to-date sales pace of 815,896 cars and light trucks, up 1.2 percent from 2003, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., announced today. July highlights include:

Record July sales for American Honda
Record July sales for Honda Division
Record July sales for Acura Division
All-time record Honda Pilot sales
Record July sales of Honda Odyssey and Element
Record July sales of Acura TL, TSX and MDX
"The market continues to show a strong bias toward light trucks and luxury performance vehicles," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda. "Both Honda and Acura are well-positioned to meet the needs of today's customers in the most competitive environment yet in the automotive industry."

The Honda Division posted its third consecutive record month with July sales of 112,815 cars and light trucks while daily selling rate totals decreased slightly by 3.6 percent with one more selling day in 2004. Record Honda Division light truck sales include an all-time record for the Pilot of 10,847 units, up 25.7 percent for July, and July records for Odyssey of 15,134 units (third best ever) and Element of 5,943 units. With a limited supply of vehicles and record demand for hybrid vehicles, the Civic Hybrid posted sales of 1,963 units bringing year-to-date sales to 15,989 units, up 21.3 percent year-to-date.

Acura Division July sales increased by 4.1 percent to 17,057 units, the third best month in the division's 18-year history. Acura Division year-to-date totals of 113,795 units are 15.8 percent ahead of 2003. July sales of the TL are up 47.5 percent to 6,282 units, and the TSX is up 15.2 percent to 3,514 units. The MDX also set a new July record with 4,767 units.

TSX going strong. Although is very discouraging when all but 3 Honda/Acura models (TL, TSX, Pilot) have shown negative sales for the month. Weird that the new S2000 which is supposedley better in every way is so far down on sales compared to last years model

Its interesting to see the Ody still sell well considering a new one is just down the horizon. The TSX and TL are both selling great, which is nice to see. Acura really seems to be doing well and the new RL looks like another winner fro Acura.

However, the Honda side doesn't have a great line-up in cars compared to Toyota IMO. They really need to do something about the ugly Accord and aging Civic, looks like sales are cooling off on both bread and butter cars, especially the Accord.

We'll never find model specific sales number for Canada.

But I've seen about 10 or so on the roads so I think there selling OK. I'm still not sold on the styling (especially the int) and the weird configurations they're sold in have me wondering. You can only get the XE and SE AWD models with a MT If you want an AWD model in Auto you have to move up to the LE model that costs $33K ? Thats the only AWD/Auto model you can get. I'm thinking thats a big mistake as most Cute ute owners would want an Autobox.

Not sure whats instore of the RSX, but I think they might be changing the front end, rear end, and parts of the interior. Nothing major...

What? I thought the Prelude was discontinued 3 years ago!

Ignore the above. The autobox is an option on the XE and SE.

I don't think even in it's best month did Acura sell 3500 Legends/RLs a month.

I'm thinking ~2000 per month. At least initially.

I'd be even more interested to see how the SUT sells.

Regardless, Acura outdone themselves with their re-designs, so I won't be surprised to see the RL sales rising like the TSX as months progress.

Has anyone else noticed this:

July July
2004 2003
MDX 4767 4604 -.3%

Looks like a positive % change to me...

Also, I may be doing the math wrong, but all of the percentages look wrong to me. Can anyone confirm?

I believe the difference comes in selling days. There were 26 selling days in July 03 to 27 this year. So percentage wise they maybe should have sold more.

Yep. I think you're right. That would be 177 per day. For 26 days it would be 4590, which is 3% less than 4604. Thanks!
