Having seen the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6, we have high hopes the mechanically related Genesis GV60 will be just as interesting in terms of design. It looks like it judging by these latest spy shots, even though the crossover is still heavily camouflaged and missing the cladding on the wheel arches. The hump at the back is quite puzzling and seems to suggest the production version will have a chunky integrated spoiler.
What puzzles us the most is the B-pillar on the driver's side, specifically the pillar of the rear door. It seems to integrate a rectangle that could either be a button or something that pops out. Since we genuinely don't know what purpose it serves, all we can do is speculate. It might be for keyless entry in the same vein as the button and keypad embedded in the same area on the Ford Mustang Mach-E, but on the front door.
The side profile view gives us a vague idea of the vehicle's size, which appears to be smaller than its sister models from Hyundai and Kia. The impressively short overhangs – especially the rear one – associated with dedicated EVs means the wheelbase has been maximized for greater rear legroom. The swoopy roofline makes Genesis' first bespoke electric car sportier, but it likely eats into rear headroom and cargo capacity compared to its mainstream siblings.
The "Two Lines" design motif remains hidden under heavy camo both at the front and rear where the GV60 will have split lights to mirror the latest conventionally powered models and the Electrified G80, the company's first electric model. Overall, the zero-emissions model is shaping up to look just as modern and high-tech as the Ioniq 5 and EV6, but likely with a more premium feel inside.
Reports have stated the world premiere could take place in June, but the month is almost ending and a debut seems unlikely considering Genesis hasn't released even a single teaser. The official premiere could take place in the coming weeks or months, and since this prototype was caught in Europe with German license plates, it could be a sign the EV will be sold on the Old Continent. It would join the G70, GV70, G80, and GV80, but also the recently unveiled G70 Shooting Brake.
Since it will ride on the same E-GMP platform as its Hyundai and Kia cousins, the GV60's technical specifications should be quite similar. Being the luxury model of the trio and therefore more expensive, it would make sense for Genesis to offer some exclusive features, but that remains to be seen.
Genesis officially revealed exterior and interior images of the GV60, the brand's first electric vehicle based on dedicated EV platform.
The Genesis GV60 is based on its dedicated EV platform known as E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform), marking the brand's move towards electrification.
The "G" in GV60 represents Genesis, while the "V" represents the vehicle's versatility. The number '60' is the lowest in the Genesis lineup and comes as the brand evolves its model-naming scheme to fit their unique design identity of 'Athletic Elegance.' Lower numbers will emphasize athleticism under the scheme, with elegance represented by higher numbers. Based on this system, the GV60 is Genesis' most athletic model yet.
The Genesis GV60's exterior design highlights its high-performance image along with a dynamic and smooth appearance. Genesis delivers its signature design experience to the GV60's body, bringing the sleek silhouette drivers have come to expect from the brand.
The front of the GV60 features a design optimized exclusively for the electric vehicle. The iconic and progressive Two-Line Quad Lamps add character to a refined and voluminous body. A wider and more athletic Crest Grille has been placed below the Quad Lamps to emphasize the dynamic performance of the GV60 and also to increase the cooling efficiency of the high-voltage batteries in the underbody.
The Genesis GV60 will also see a new wing emblem applied to the grille, with thickness of the emblem reduced by nearly 80 percent from previous models. It features the same unique Guilloché pattern often seen in luxury watches, representing a culmination of Genesis' analog sensitivities with high-tech innovations to create truly luxurious driving experiences.
In addition, Genesis has opted for a 'Clamshell Hood' for the first time, a single panel which combines the hood and fenders, creating a sleek impression for the EV model by removing lines between the parts.
When viewed from the side, the GV60 reveals the smooth and dynamic profile of a high-performance coupe. A simple yet sharp silhouette running from the front hood to the rear spoiler completes a more progressive character.
The chrome line flowing from the windshield to the top of the Daylight Opening (DLO) window extends to a C pillar-garnish design that embodies the image of 'electric', adding a distinctive characteristic to the EV model.
Digital side mirrors add to a cutting-edge appearance, and are connected to the camera and monitor system. Meanwhile, an electric door handle enhances a strikingly futuristic image by automatically popping up when you approach the car.
At the rear, Two Line rear combination lamps take on a dynamic shape and flow seamlessly with the voluminous three-dimensional body. The rear also features a fixed rear wing spoiler to accent a coupe-shaped roof, adding to the image of dynamic high-performance.
Shoulder volume is emphasized in the rear fender to create a low and wide profile and further accentuate the image of high-performance by combining it with technical functions such as various sensors, taillights, and rear turn signals at the bottom.
The interior design of the GV60 takes on Genesis' design ethos of the 'Beauty of White Space,' while seeking to create a spacious and comfortable interior. At the same time, it has embodied differentiated images with its floating architecture and unique details.
The most noticeable feature in Genesis GV60's interior design is the Crystal Sphere, a sphere-shaped Shift By Wire (SBW) that intuitively informs drivers when the vehicle is ready to drive.
The Crystal Sphere is one of the most compelling design elements of the Genesis GV60. When the vehicle is turned off, the Crystal Sphere becomes the vehicle's mood lights, adding to the aesthetic of the driving experience. When you're ready to drive, the sphere rotates and the SBW appears, creating an indoor atmosphere of futuristic mobility.
The Crystal Sphere is not just a key element of the interior design, but also provides emotional connection with driver while indicating driving status.
The floating console, where the Crystal Sphere is located, looks as if it is hovering in the air, working with other unique features such as the slim cockpit and flat floor to provide passengers with a maximum level of openness.
The crash pad inside the GV60 is designed in a wide and slim shape to augment the pleasant interior, emphasizing a high-tech atmosphere with a wide-screen integrated indicator (cclC, connected car Integrated Cockpit) that connects with the cluster and AVNT (audio, video, navigation, telecommunication).
The Genesis GV60 has also epitomized the uniformity of interior design by applying circular details to Crystal Sphere, the horn cover, door handles, and side mirror controllers.
That shape is actually really important for aerodynamics and longer range performance. This is why almost all of the EV's on the market have the same-ish shape to them.
I'm sure it would look a lot better in a different color than baby diarrhea green. Interior looks cool though.
When is this thing hitting the market?
I'm sure this is just to be an attention getter, but as mentioned, I'd like to see it in a different color. As is, it does absolutely nothing for me and not sure if a color change would change my mind
Genesis revealed its first electric crossover, the GV60, last week. However, that does not stop company engineers from testing out prototypes. This time, the GV60's prototype was spotted by our spy photographers without camouflage. 14 photos
The prototype can be seen without its badges, but its design is easy to recognize, especially since it comes with a horizontal stripe that splits up its headlights, and it continues the same theme on its taillights. We must note that the brand does have a nice taste in OEM wheel designs, and we would love to see more of that in future cars from Genesis.
The company has yet to explain its design cues, the most curious being the black arrow ornament in the C-pillar, which points towards the rear doors. The latter ornament even has a chrome surround that starts at the windshield and goes back to the trunk opening. The chromed ornament is covered on the prototype by paper masking tape, but it is redundant at this point.
As you can observe in the photo gallery, Genesis first showed its GV60 with cameras and monitors instead of its side mirrors, but the prototype spotted by our spy photographers comes with conventional side mirrors. Audi employed a similar strategy on its e-tron quattro electric SUV, which was first to market with cameras for side mirrors in a production car, but can also be ordered with conventional side mirrors.
From personal experience, I would like to add that not all those systems are created equal, so it would be wise to wait for a test drive before ordering one with the fancy side mirrors. If you cannot schedule a test drive at your nearest dealership before orders are open, wait until the first test drives with the car are published online.
The first U.S. deliveries of the GV60 are set to begin in 2022, so you have at least four months to wait. There is no pricing yet, and Genesis has not revealed the specifications of its electric crossover, but we know that it shares its underpinnings with the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5, so it should come with a dual motor setup, a 77.4 kWh battery, and have an estimated range of up to 300 miles (483 km) in its top trim.
If you’ve seen almost any modern spy, heist, or action movie, you’re probably aware of how useful biometrics can be—especially if you’re performing an intricate burglary. However, you’ve likely used biometrics in your normal, non-heist life, too, whenever you unlocked your smartphone. Biometrics might sound like future tech to some, but it’s becoming more incorporated throughout your daily life. Luxury carmaker Genesis is working to bring it into your commute with its upcoming GV60’s new Face Connect feature.
Essentially, the folks at Genesis want to use biometrics so you can leave your keys at home, and control the vehicle’s functions with your face and fingerprints. The Face Connect system uses a near-infrared camera to scan your face, which then checks to see if you’re registered to the vehicle’s computer. If your Genesis gives you the OK, the power seats and steering wheel will adjust to your logged settings. Genesis will also include a system aptly named Fingerprint Authentication System, which uses your fingerprints to work in conjunction with your face to give you full control of the car without having a fob.
Like we saw with smartphones, this kind of biometric technology might see some slow adoption early on, but will likely gain steam down the line. These biometric tech tools will join the Genesis GV60 alongside over-the-air updates, which is another example of a quickly adopting technology in modern cars.
How well will this system work? Well, it’s hard to say without seeing it in action. The all-electric Genesis GV60 should see driveways before the end of 2022, which means we’re going to see if this biometric tech will make sense shortly. Until then, we’ll just watch some of our favorite face scan scenes from wild action movies.
its hyundai cousin delayed. i expect small volumes for Hyundai/Genesis electrics. The more complex vehicles they produce. the more unreliable and low production. https://electrek.co/2021/09/15/hyund...car-launch-us/
Hot on the heels of the Cadillac Lyriq's pricing, Genesis has announced the cost for its own luxury electric crossover. The 2023 Genesis GV60 will be extremely competitive, with a lower base price, if not lower across the board.
The base model is the Advanced AWD, and it starts at $59,980, about $3,000 less than the Cadillac. At 314 horsepower, it's barely less power than the Caddy, plus it has all-wheel drive rather than rear-wheel drive. If the power sounds familiar, that's because it's basically the same motor setup as the all-wheel-drive Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 (not including the upcoming EV6 GT). Range comes in at 248 miles, which is less than either the Hyundai or Kia with the same powertrain. It's also less than the base Cadillac's 312-mile range.
The GV60 Advanced AWD comes quite well-equipped. Inside it has leather heated and ventilated front seats, Bang & Olufsen audio, dual 12.3-inch infotainment and instrument screens, head-up display and a heat pump. It's packed with technology, too, such as the vehicle-to-load charging that makes it a mobile power source. Facial recognition and fingerprint authentication allow access and car starting without a key, and activate personal settings. It also has automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-centering, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, surround view cameras, parking sensors, navigation and remote fore and aft driving for pulling out of parking spots.
GV60s will also come with three years of free 30-minute charging sessions at Electrify America stations.
Sitting above the GV60 Advanced is the GV60 Performance AWD. It starts at $68,980 and brings power up to 429 horses, or 483 when in "Boost Mode." Range drops to 235 miles with this trim. It's also about $4,000 more expensive than the all-wheel-drive Cadillac Lyriq, which will also deliver on 500 horsepower.
The GV60 Performance AWD does include a number of other niceties besides extra power. The 20-inch wheels are upgraded to 21-inch units, and adaptive suspension and an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential were fitted. Inside, the front seats get additional adjustments, heated rear seats and a faux suede headliner. Digital Key 2, which allows drivers to use their phone as a key while also making it possible to share the key to others digitally, is also included.
I put a deposit for one (GV60 Performance) last month here in Canada, was waiting for pricing information to see if I will go ahead. I also placed a deposit for an Ioniq 5 AWD Ultimate pkg nearly two months ago.
GV60 Advanced: $71k CAD
GV60 Performance: $79k CAD
Ioniq 5 AWD Ultimate: $60k CAD (eligible for $8k government rebate)
$20k difference in MSRP for nicer interior and 160hp more seems a bit too much, With tax and refund factored in it's like a $30k difference. I guess I will stick with the Ioniq 5 instead, and wait for the Acura version of the Cadillac Lyriq AWD. I was hoping Genesis would price the GV60 to be just under $60k CAD (for starting) to meet that new rebate threshold, and the performance to be under $70k (max amount for the rebate). For comparison, the much larger Cadillac Lyric with 340hp RWD starts at $70k CAD. Not sure what the 500hp AWD version retails for in Canada but in the US, the AWD version is only $2k more than the RWD (USD$62k for RWD and USD$64k for AWD). This seems like a better deal than the GV60?
Just saw this in my neighborhood and had to look it up. Must be a test mule as the main site still says coming soon and has Korean specs.
They've already landed at dealership and have been sold. I've seen a couple out in the wild already; my local dealership got 13 allocations and (amazingly) sold them all at sticker within an hour. I was #1 on the list but ended up passing on them because I'm holding out for the Polestar 3.
Genesis has made the GV60 much smarter for the 2023 model year by introducing new technology features, including a world-first face-recognition system that uses a sensor with deep-learning image processing controller. 10 photos
This gizmo allows owners to leave the digital and physical keys at home, as the vehicle reads their face and automatically unlocks the door. An LED indicator is located on the B pillar, and provides visual feedback on the status of the car. All data is encrypted, stored locally, and managed via the Human-Machine Interface.
Setting it up is easy, as all users have to do is access the dedicated app, and use the physical key once in order to set up their profile. Subsequently, the biometric data will allow them access inside, with the face-recognition for the keyless entry, and the fingerprint to start it. This gives them a “stress-free driving experience,” Genesis says, and comes in handy for outdoor activities where carrying a physical key can be a hassle.
Another novelty for the 2023 Genesis GV60 is the new Digital Key feature, which allows owners to lock and unlock their rides using their smartphones and/or smartwatches. The digital key can be shared with up to three additional users, no matter how far away they are from the car, and they can set various restrictions that limit what guests can do.
The comfort of the electric crossover has been enhanced by making the heated front and rear seats, with a massage function for the driver, standard on all trim levels. The heated steering wheel, which is electrically adjustable and has a memory function, is offered at no extra cost too, and the new Air Purification System has been introduced as well. The ambient lighting has been extended to the lower parts of the cabin, and rounds off the updates for 2023.
