G-Power: Typhoon (based on BMW X6 M) news

We all know what the biggest problem with the BMW X6 M is, right? Not nearly enough power. Sure, 555 hp from a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 is 5 hp more potent than a Porsche Cayenne Turbo, making the X6 M the most powerful production SUV on earth. Still, 600 hp is the new black, so a stock X6 M just ain't going to cut it. Thank heavens, then, for G-Power.

Meet the G-Power Typhoon. Thanks to 15% increased airflow to the intercoolers, G-Power was able to wrangle an additional 45 hp out of the Bimmer's motivator. Torque's up a bit, too. From 500 lb-ft to 516. G-Power claims the 0-62 mph dash is lowered to 4.5 seconds, too. One issue with that, however: Inside Line ripped off a 4.3 second 0-60 mph blast in a stock X6 M, meaning this here Typhoon should be three flavors of bonkers.

Then there's the matter of looks, always a sticking point when discussing modern Bimmers. Here's what we recommend. Go down to your friendly neighborhood BMW dealer with a folding chair. Locate an X6. Sit down in front of it and start staring. Meditate, let everything else you've ever known or thought about cars and car design melt out of your mind. This should take between five and seven hours. The salespeople won't mind -- honest. When you snap out of your trance with your doors of perception suddenly nailed open, the X6 will appear to you as it truly is -- pretty okay-looking.

That settled, we'll admit to liking the G-Power's mods. For instance, you can't say the new front clip looks worse than the old one, can you? And who amongst you doesn't love 25mm profile tires riding on 23-inch wheels? There's all sorts of carbon fiber this and kevlar that available as well. The best part just might be that G-Power isn't leaving the X5 M -- the X6 M's ugly duckling sibling -- out in the cold, as there's a Typhoon kit for it, too. You know what word comes to mind? Nifty, all of it. Highly entertaining press release after the jump.

Hrm...they take an ugly car, paint it a weird color and then give it these giant spaces in the front that are big enough for you to stack some books into.

Yeah, no.

Post 2014 G-Power Typhoon

Press release...

Traditionally, nothing is left half-done with G-Power. And even if the main preoccupation in Aresing, is the BMW’s X6 model that is already pretty impressive from the onset, the concept of “half-done” is definitely never on the agenda! After the “small” body kit “Typhoon S”, G-Power is therefore also now presenting its full-grown brother simply called “Typhoon”.

And this wide body is a sly old dog. Efforts or costs did not constitute much obstacle to G-Power, who first had the basic vehicle completely digitalized using a 3D scanner. The new aerodynamic parts, which were then manufactured in original equipment quality, were developed on this basis using the most modern CAD technology. The hallmarks of this striking body kits is the muscular mudguard widening through which the X6 gains more width by seven centimeters. The optical connection of the front and rear axle is created by stylish side skirts.

The front is downright brutal. The front apron of the Typhoon stands out for its aggressive visual appearance and also has aerodynamic advantages. The same applies to the projecting rear apron through which the gigantic 114 millimeter end-pipes of the centrally installed exhaust system protrude. Another significant characteristic of this bodywork construction kit is the “Venturi” engine hood made of carbon. This does not only look quite impressive, but also fulfills – with its numerous air inlets and outlets – a significant technical function. Together with the air inlets in the front spoiler, the “dynamic venting” technology ensures a systematic de-aeration of the engine space in such a way that the thermal pressure on the machine is always within a positive range.

The fact that these actions became necessary is attributable to the extensive works performed on the engine. G-Power concentrated particularly on the exhaust guide and air inlets as well as on the engine software. The exhaust system that is completely made of stainless steel enables a clear reduction of the exhaust gas back pressure. Together with the new electronic
coordination, the performance rose to a considerable 725 horse power. Even more brutal is the torque of 890 Nm at just 1,500/min! And that is only the mitigated and electronically limited version which allows the standard gear even much more breathing space. 1,000 Nm would also have been possible if the gear was boosted accordingly! In the same way, driving performances are also absolutely impressive given the sheer bulk of the SUV: The 100 k.p.h. limit is long forgotten after only 4.2 seconds and driving resistance and engine performance begin to counterbalance each other only way beyond the 300 k.p.h limit.
Talking of coming to a halt as quickly as possible, the ceramic sport braking system of G-Power effectively takes the wind off the sail of the powerful BMW: If necessary, the 6-piston brake calipers on the front axle will bite firmly into the almost 40-centimeter wide ceramic disks in such a way that the impact can be compared to a head-on collision!

To ensure sufficient action not only in the longitudinal direction but also in the lateral vehicle dynamics, the experts of G-Power also installed the company’s own coilover kit which was adjusted to a draft of 30 millimeters. After all we are still talking about a Sports Utility Vehicle that is exceedingly sportive!

Beneath the thick surface, which by the way, is delivered with perfectly fitting inner fenders, spaces were now available for very broad wheels. The three-part “Silverstone RS” forged wheel of G-Power is of the dimension 11x23 inches on the front axle while even the 12-inches wide rims were mounted on the rear. The size of the tires is the same on both axles and measures 315/25ZR23. The Michelin high-performance tires guaranty best grip in all driving conditions.

All these ingredients clearly serve to immensely intensify the visual appearance of the X6M which is already sufficiently aggressive. From far away, this car already transmits the unmistakable impression: “Here comes the boss!“. With the broad, brawny and bared teeth looks, the last bit of boredom is cast away from the entire package.

In the process, G-Power works efficiently in the usual high quality with the strength of standard design and combines this with the company’s own highly sportive design philosophy without the overall result overshooting the target! And the sophisticated manufacture-production of these vehicles allows the customer the option of fulfilling all its desires for individualization thus guaranteeing the desired level of exclusiveness!

Absolute luxury reigns supreme in the interior – and even in its most sportive form! Exclusive accessories such as the ergonomically formed sports steering wheel or instruments in G-Power design endow the interior with sophistication much like the noble carbon-leather fitments which can easily compete with the interior of the luxury limousines or Bentley or Rolls Royce in terms of material and production quality. Wherever possible, the plastic surfaces of the standard production X6M cockpit were covered with futuristic high-tech compound materials or soft leather/Alcantara: Blue visible carbon fiber on selected spots sets a colorful priority for the eyes while the gray, futuristically stitched Alcantara offers an optical and haptic joy to behold. The rollout iPads integrated in the backrest of the front seats ensure the infotainment of passengers sitting in the second row right and left of the specially constructed center console at the back.

I can think of 19 ways I'd rather spend $100K+ and one of them is lighting 100s with 20s.
