i dunno, i agree with soopa, it looks okay but doesnt have the "crispness" of the concept. As far as the interior is concerned...besides the guage cluster...it looks like plain vanilla ford interior

 

We could be looking at the base model interior too. I guarantee the F-150's XL interior is not like that picture.

 

It's not bad, but the concept was MUCH nicer. The Seats, Fog Lamps, and Rear Lights SUCK!!! They really cheapened the concept.

those pictures of the white mustang are taken of a SMALL SCALE TOY MODEL. You can tell because some of them are blury from being too close and the zebra print masking, I would say it was stolen from someones little sister/ daughter.

 

Live axle was done instead of an IRS becuse that is what the Mustang has had for a looooong time. It makes for better straight line launches, and is what that car is all about. If you want IRS...get the Cobra, just like always.

Someone at Ford (forget the name) once tried to the Mustang a Front Drove 4 banger. They almost hung his ass for that, and it gave us the Probe/MX-6...

You say Japanese V6's are better, yes they are, BUT you can't get a decent one for 13k. For the moeny you have to spend on a Japanese V6, you get a V8 in the GT.

WHEN WE LAST SPOTTED A prototype of Ford’s all-new 2005 Mustang, the tiny photos we published hardly did the car justice. But thanks to yet another spy shooter, we’re able to provide this fairly complete look at Ford’s redesigned sports car inside and out, and in comparison to the outgoing model.



The redesigned 2005 Mustang is still slated for a fall 2004 debut, riding on a platform derived from the premium rear-wheel-drive chassis under the Lincoln LS, Jaguar S-Type and Ford Thunderbird. But lest the Mustang price spiral out of reach for the common man, Ford has created a less-expensive version of the same platform and will offer a range of V6 and V8 engine choices.

If you like the looks of the chrome-bezeled instrument panel, get ready to add about $300 to your sticker price.

Well, that may be true, but that's not the only reason. Another big reason they did it is for cost.

Respectfully, how come the Corvette, any BMW, Porsche, Mercedes, Supra, etc seem to do just fine with IRS?
I seriously doubt you will be able to get a V6 version of this car for less than 15K. I expect 18-20K will be the average off-the-lot price for the V6 model (excluding ttl), and as I mentioned before, that's Hyundai Tiburon territory (which is no wimp these days). You also won't be able to get a V8 for less than 23K, with 25K being the average GT price. Mark my words.

 

I remember reading an article in a car rag about IRS vs. Live Axle...Live Axles launch better in a straigt line...IRS handles better, that is why you see it on the Cobra, Vette, etc. The live axle, under hard launches is more tolerant of wheel hop.

I would not buy a V6 Mustang, but a lot of people WILL becuase its a Mustang just the same...the Tiburon has no history here. I don't hear many people getting nostalgic about their Hyundai.

172 hp 181 lb/ft for the Hyundai vs. 193 hp and 225 lb/ft for Ford's V6, and I bet we see a power bump. The Mustang is right wheel drive, the Tiburon wrong. Though the Tiburon is about 170-190 lbs lighter, depnding on the configuration. However, the power/weight still stays in favor of the Mustang. It is reported that it gets better mileage than the Hyundai, It costs $16,999 for the base I4 Tib...and about $18,200 for the V6. $17,720 for the base Mustang...all prices have no Dest and Delivery added in.

The Mustang has more head/hip/shouler room, front and back. I bet the new one has even more, and you will be able to get a vert Mustang.

I'll admit that the live axle saves cost, but most drivers will never notice the preformance benefits of the IRS, esp in the V6 model...

The 2005 Mustang is being prepared for an international debut at the Detroit show in January, but this week TCC has more detailed pics of the most anticipated new-car introduction of the year.

At first glance this Mustang might look heavily camouflaged, but it's simply wearing a static-cling-like plastic sheet with a fuzzy worm design - likely there to fool the camera's focusing system, "bras" front and rear, and a bit of cloth to cover small Shelby-like rear quarter windows - similar to those found on the 1965 and 1966 Shelby 2+2 Fastback GT350.

This Mustang coupe, upon closer examination, is as production-ready as they get, including gauges, and the finished interior.

Our own Mustang expert, collector and enthusiast, Franklin Nickerson, provided us several additional observations after accompanying us when we took these exclusive photographs:

The roofline of the 2005 model has virtually the same silhouette as the 1967 and 1968 2+2 fastback.

The 2005 grille has four individual headlamps, as did the 1967 Shelby and 1969 Mustang.

The taillights for 2005 are three side-by-side, like all Mustangs from 1964.5 through 1970. However the backup lights are on the bottom of the inside lens.

The license plate has moved down below the bumper, as on the 1964.5 through 1973.

The interior instrument area has two clusters in chrome, and - our expert insists - looks just like the 1967-1968 dash. The upper area has two chrome A/C-heat vents on the same level as the instrument cluster.

Did the 2005 Mustang pass in the eyes of an enthusiast? Well, he walked right up to the test engineers and offered them a check on the spot. We think Mr. Nickerson will be one of the first to order a new Mustang, but he's holding out for the convertible.

From what i've seen it looks pretty nice. I'll never own one however.

 

If I want a 1964 Mustang, I'll buy one. Not another damn retro. It's like Ford is acknowledging they have sucked the past 40 years.

The exterior does look nice in that B&W photo. However the interior looks like no improvement was made at all.

its probably going to be a good looking car exterior wise when all is said and done, can picture a black one looking mean as hell. whats most important though is what was done or not done to the dew platform and how much power it will have. the interior is different but its not really a step up from the current car. mach1 with the shaker will be very tempting.

 

i think the idea behind makin an oldskool classic mustang look a lil more "futuristic" is cool but that interior has gotta go if thats what the production one is gonna have... not feelin that at all

That sounds pretty cool. To bad it couldn't be automatic like when the RPM’s and MPH go up the dash gradually goes from green blended into yellow then into red.

This engine is claimed to be the V8 that will be used in the next gen. Mustang.

How can you say the interior sucks? Have you seen the interior of the 94-03 Mustangs lately? In in't category I think the interior looks nice, not terrific, but nice nonetheless. And Mustnag buyers dont care as much about level of interior refinement than they do about how the car looks and how it performs, which so far look very promising.

I'd much rather see them put some extra money into the engines & suspension over the interior.

300 HP and 315 pounds of torque. Very nice. I am guessing 0-60 in 5.5 and 13.9 for the 1/4.

I totally agree. Looks great so far!

 

I would guess even a little quicker. The current model performs at about those times, so I guesstimate slightly quicker due to the extra power. Although it weighs ~100 lbs heavier which isn't so good.

 

Damn, I cant wait till I get that issue. Looks better than I thought it would.
