It looks great. Very upscale. Damnit. Ford needs to bring it over now and call it the Milan.

I agree with stangg.. very TL'ish with the sidemarker light and the crease...

overall, im impressed with ford and this car now they need a nice interior and a gutsy 3.5/3.7 under the hood and they're on their way to a good seller...

Once again US gets a very bland Fusion/500 while in Europe they get a great looking Mondeo.

The previous gen Mondeo interior was better than anything Ford or GM (save Caddy) had.

The SVT Contour was a decent car I hear.

The rental fleet trims weren't.

Mondeo in Casino Royale

Its one of the first cars that the new James Bond drives in the movie and it looks pretty good when in motion. 500x better than a Ford 500 would have looked.

Very nice for a Ford. Match something like this that's good looking with good build quality and sell it in America and maybe they'd stop losing money.

Side note: Is it just me or do the tails look like they could be completely made up of LEDs?

I was quite surprised to see it, but was even more surprised that Ford isn't selling that model here.

Yeah, I had one of those rental Contours....OMG .

I really don't understand why Ford continues to build such crap for the US when they have perfectly decent models in Europe. They act like they just don't know the US market at all. Stupid. I think the Mondeo would do well here if they could find a way to get rid of the brand stigma.

Ford–and 007–Present New Mondeo - - by Henny Hemmes (2007-02-13) - - Source: The Car Connection

Usually James Bond drives an Aston Martin, but may be you have seen the latest James Bond movie with 007 driving the new Ford Mondeo - the sedan version of which will bow at theGeneva show in March.

Ford is said to have paid a fortune to have its Mondeo play a part in Casino Royale. The British newspaper The Sun quoted an insider: "It is a huge deal, worth far more than the two million pounds (nearly four million dollars) that the new 007, Daniel Craig, is getting." In the meantime a figure of $25 million is mentioned.

In September, Ford unveiled the station wagon model of the Mondeo at the Paris auto show, using the term "kinetic design" to describe the design theme that the Blue Oval also applied to the 2006 C-Max crossover.

The sedan will debut in March in Geneva , but Ford has made the news official before the actual show opens to the media and public. The new Mondeo range consists of a four-door sedan, a five-door hatchback, and a wagon, which will all arrive at the European Ford dealers in the beginning of May.

All models will be available with three Duratorq TDCi diesel engines, ranging from 125 to 140 hp, and four Duratec gas engines: Ford's 126-hp 1.6-liter and 145-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines, as well as the 2.5-liter five-cylinder turbo with 220 hp. New is the 2.3-liter Duratc HE powerplant with 161 hp. The engines will be mated to a five or six-speed gearbox, and later this year also with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Ford has concentrated on the use of better-looking and softer materials inside, and on improving driving comfort, without giving up the much praised driving dynamics of the outgoing Mondeo.

Ford has not released dimensions yet, but says that the luggage compartment of the sedan measures 18.9 cubic feet and that of the hatchback can be "stretched" to 51.5 cubic feet.

Keyless entry and a start button and a HMI, Human Machine Interface instrument display, are new to the Mondeo. All Mondeos will get standard stability control and a capless refuelling system with inhibitor to prevent using the wrong fuel, and 'follow-me-home' lights. Options will include Adaptive Cruise Control, Interactive Vehicle Dynamics Control and Hill Launch Assist. The optional Sport Pack consists of a lowered suspension, partly leather interior, and 17- or 18-inch aluminium wheels.

There will be three equipment levels for all body styles: the Trend, Titanium, and Ghia models. Prices have not yet been announced.

That is one nice looking Ford.

It really makes me wonder what the rationale is to not bring such great designs over to the States. Are the U.S. Managers too conservative in their tastes to accept a change to their boxy, plain designs?

from what i've been reading on this board is that it'll cost too much to bring it here?

i really don't know what the rationale is....but it is a hot sedan.

question for all mondeo admirers: if ford does decide to bring the mondeo stateside, would you really consider buying one?

But how much would that design philosophy cost to bring here? This design is far, far better than either the Fusion or 500. Its not even close.

i agree...i dunno what the reasoning is for not bringing it here either. i'm sure some people can explain why.

it amazes me how this car so far and away better than anything ford has to sell here.

but with the current state of ford, i guess maybe they can't afford to really do anything?

I would. True, the car is more expensive if brought here. Making it a Mercury would help solve that problem, though; the brand is positioned above Ford, so it's okay if it's pricier than a Fusion. Also, it doesn't have a Ford twin, so it would be a unique product for Mercury, and that's something the brand desperately needs.

I was in UK last May. I saw alot of Fords that could do well here. Maybe Ford will go to the brink of bankrupty before figures this out. Look what GM is doing with the Vauxhall Astra.

If I was looking for a car in that class, the Mondeo would bring me closer to considering a Ford.

But I'm not the target market for that car. I think it would sway a lot of other people that are in that market.

Shanghai and Beijing were crawling with the older Mondeo's last time I was there, and I couldn't help but turn my head and look at them each time I saw one. WTF ford, bring this over already?!

Pretty sad that Ford is an American company, but yet doesn't bring over this gorgeous model for their own breatheren (American and Canadians) to drive.

But, I guess a comparison would be Honda doesn't offer the USDM Accord coupe in Japan I don't think.
