The new hotness that was EVs has seemed to start cooling off. Models that once had buyers beating down the door of the dealership have now seen sales numbers slide and discounts rise, just as inventories for many models have started to climb. And while this isn’t something that’s specific to just one automaker, some automakers are worse off than others with some models. Take Ford: Business Insider reports that the automaker has Mustang Mach-Es piling up on dealer lots.

A quick new car search shows that there are over 9,000 brand new Ford Mustang Mach-Es for sale across the country. While that’s a good thing for prospective buyers who have been dealing with inventory shortages the last couple of years, that’s all changed now. Buyers aren’t showing up. Data from analytics firm Cloud Theory shows that in Q2, 2022 Mustang Mach-Es had turn rates — a fancy term that just means how quickly a vehicle goes from in the dealers inventory to being sold — within 30 days that sat at over 86 percent. By the same time in 2023, that number had dropped nearly 59 percent. This can be backed up by both dealer listings Ford sales stats as well.

Out of the 9,092 Mustang Mach-Es for sale across the country as of this writing, 61.5 percent (5,596) of those had been sitting for over 30 days. Mach-E sales were down 21 percent in Q2 of 2023 compared to the same time in 2022. But speaking to Insider, Ford’s head of U.S. sales analysis paints a more positive picture.
...EV sales were up nearly 12% through June. He also said the unsold Mach-E inventory wasn’t just sitting on dealer lots because it spent more time in transit. About 52% of undelivered Mach-Es are still in transit, he said.
Ford’s problems aren’t just with the Mach-E, though. Take Lightning orders, which one dealer that spoke anonymously to Insider says aren’t being filled

But one Ford dealer in the Midwest, who also spoke to Insider on the condition of anonymity, says many Lightning orders are still sitting uncompleted in the bank for extended periods of time. That leaves order holders plenty of time to pick up a different EV before their Lightning finally arrives.
Another dealer on the East Coast said that Ford may have been overly confident with just how well its EVs would do, saying that “Ford’s current production rate was out of step with customer demand. I think Ford’s got a real problem on their hands based on the bets they’ve made. I have Lightnings in stock and Mach-Es in stock. We’ve never had that before.

The company has already
admitted that it can’t keep up with the demand of the Maverick, a vehicle that buyers actually want. With billions invested in its EV future, Ford may have to take a step back to wait and see if buyers will show up for these once hot EVs.

Who knew that greedy dealers asking for giant markups and 7% auto loans would cause sales to slow and inventories to rise???

All legacy auto needs to get away from the ridiculous and terrible dealer model. It's actively hurting sales.

wife and i went to test drive a few Mach-E’s at the local Ford dealership and they all had a 3K dealer markup, we were so turned off by that and the shitty interior of the car plus overall driving of it so left without buying. Sales guy: “you can order the car online to avoid the markup, but its a 6 month lead time” Good riddance… they’re great cars to look at from afar, but they are far from good

Teslas aren't any better from a fit/finish/quality standpoint but you don't have to deal with shitty dealers and markups. Also, the buying experience from both Tesla and Rivian was top notch. No dumbass finance guys trying to sell you stuff, no 2 hour waits for paperwork to be ready, no BS at all. Sign all the docs at home ahead of time, pay for it online, go to pick up spot (or home delivery), sign one form saying you're accepting the car, and done deal.

Buying the Rivian took about 20mins of my time, buying the Mustang took 2.5 hours.

This is why sales of cars are lagging and these are the problems that need to get fixed.

https://www.netcarshow.com/ford/2024..._mach-e_rally/

The world is about to witness the power and agility of EVs in a new way with the Ford Mustang Mach-E® Rally. It joins the Mustang Mach-E family and pushes electric vehicles in a different direction, the first-ever rally-inspired EV from Ford takes Mustang freedom and fun onto dirt roads.

"Just a year ago, this was merely an idea, and what you see today is a testament to the passion and intense creativity of our Model e team," said Donna Dickson, chief engineer, Mustang Mach-E. "We have always explored new areas of performance, and the combination of a rally-tuned suspension, dual motor electric powertrain, and wicked styling makes the Mustang Mach-E Rally a different kind of performance vehicle that will excite customers chasing their next adventure."

Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally is electric vehicle technology applied to an entirely untapped white space, expanding the Mustang Mach-E family. This machine boasts a tuned version of the Mustang Mach-E GT powertrain, with a two-motor layout targeting at least 650 lb.-ft. of torque and 480 horsepower.

The vehicle rides on a unique suspension that has been raised 20 millimeters over Mustang Mach-E GT and is equipped with specially tuned springs, MagneRide shocks, and 385-millimeter front brake rotors with red-painted Brembo®-branded calipers.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally includes a lithium-ion battery with a 91 kWh usable capacity and is targeting an EPA-estimated range of 250 miles. The Mustang Mach-E Rally is estimated to charge from 10 to 80% in approximately 36 and a half minutes on a DC Fast Charger.

Where the rubber meets the dirt road, Mustang Mach-E Rally sports durable, gloss white 19-inch rally-style alloy wheels inspired by the long history of Ford rally vehicles and wearing 235/55 R19 Michelin CrossClimate2 tires that provide more sidewall and loose surface grip compared to GT. With all the gravel customers will kick up, the underside gets protective shielding for the front and rear motors, protective film on the door cladding and fender arches to help reduce paint chips, and available dealer-installed styled mud flaps to reduce debris spray. There's also a recovery point built into the front end and included hook should off-highway adventures ever get a little too spicy.

Mustang Mach-E Rally has the first-ever RallySport Drive Mode from Ford, which is designed for off-road driving and allows for added yaw for bigger slides, a linear throttle response for better control, and more aggressive damping for better handling in loose corners. As a bonus, drivers will appreciate how this drive mode, combined with the new tires, allows the Mustang Mach-E Rally to perform in snow and other slick on-road conditions.

It also comes equipped with Ford technology customers have come to expect, including available Ford BlueCruise hands-free highway driving technology, which will be included with a 90-day trial or can be activated at any point during the vehicle ownership journey. The latest generation of software, BlueCruise 1.3, builds on BlueCruise 1.0 and 1.2 by further enhancing the hands-free-driving experience. Customers will experience a more continuously engaged driving experience with Lane Change Assist and In-Lane Repositioning, providing improved performance including around curves and in narrow lanes.

To test the Mustang Mach-E, Ford developed an all-new rally course at its Michigan Proving Ground. The course was specially designed by rallycross veterans to simulate just what the vehicle might see out in the real world. Engineers and technicians then abused Mustang Mach-E Rally prototypes in 500-mile tests simulating rally-cross durability trials to make sure it lived up to their design intent.

The Mustang Mach-E Rally also looks the part by wearing a dramatic rear spoiler that takes inspiration from the Focus® RS, unique contrasting accents, including upper and lower body moldings, a unique front splitter, black painted steel roof, distinctive and purposeful front fascia that houses built-in rally-inspired fog lights. Every Mustang Mach-E Rally comes standard with two racing stripes that complement the bold color palette. It can be ordered in Grabber Blue, Shadow Black, Eruption Green, and eye-popping Grabber Yellow with available Star White or new Glacier Gray as extra cost options.

Inside there's a combination of comfort, functionality, and style that ties in with the iconic white wheels. There are gloss white accents on the dash, the lower spokes of the steering wheel and contrasting stitching on the doors. Drivers will strap into distinctive Ford-designed performance seats that feature gloss white seatbacks, and "Mach-E Rally" debossed into the seating surface.

"Mustang Mach-E Rally puts Ford's decades of passion for rally championships around the world right in the hands of our customers.' said Jim Farley, chief executive officer. "It takes Mustang where it hasn't been before - to gravel and dirt roads. Inspired by true driving enthusiasts, a driving experience like never before for the pure joy of driving."

Mustang Mach-E Rally is the latest in a long line of innovative vehicles from Ford, following in the tire tracks of the F-150 Raptor®, F-150 Lightning®, Maverick®, E-Transit®, and Ranger Raptor® all of which gave customers something new in the market. With Mustang Mach E-Rally, Ford is offering a crossover for passionate drivers with an active lifestyle who want to bring their friends along on their adventures, all while doing it with zero tailpipe emissions.

Targeted starting MSRP of the Mustang Mach-E Rally is around $65,000 in the United States. The Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally will be available to purchase in early 2024 and deliveries will begin shortly afterward.

I actually kind of like it...more unique than the standard one for sure. Would look better in a different color...and also with the Mustang name dropped.

Nothing is cheap anymore. Friend is looking for an E9X M3 and they are all into the high 30's to high 40's which is nuts to me for a 10-15 year old BMW that hasn't hit "classic" status yet.

True, the market is still a bit crazy.
Helps if you're selling & not needing to buy, but the bottom has to fall out sometime soon.

I'm surprised it hasn't already given the way interest rates are these days. That said, a lot of these "special" cars are being bought in cash by people who really want them. The bottom is already starting to go for more normal cars, seeing Gladiators for ~$10k under MSRP already.

Yeah, as dealer stocks have improved, I've been hearing more of the old $_k off MSRP on new trucks & a few throwing some lower rate finance offers, but still in the 2-3% range. Don't think we'll be seeing any 0.9% offers for a long time, unless they're on something like a 24-36mo finance.

EV and hybrid are still white hot around here (Northern CA). For hybrid, almost certainly dealer markup since choices are limited. Market won't roll over easily because production was massively reduced. All those people coming off leases need to get new cars and money is no object for a good % of them. So don't hold your breath for market to roll over. This is a supply issue.

My thought as well, the bronze accents are nice, but the grille, at least on the green exterior, is too much

As it turns out, “right-sizing” EV production and investments to meet buyer demand is an incredibly difficult thing to do for automakers. Ford has found that out the hard way over the past few years, as it first struggled to meet demand for the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning before adjusting its production numbers to account for flagging sales. Now, the Blue Oval is cutting prices on the Mach-E and is offering significant incentives for the Lightning, just a day after it slashed prices in Canada.

The Mustang Mach-E was the country's second most popular electric SUV last year, but its price has fallen by thousands of dollars since its introduction. Ford rolled out a $42,995 starting price for the SUV after a short pause in taking orders early last year, and the recent cuts have dropped the Mach-E’s starting MSRP by up to $8,100 for some models.

Starting pricing for the 2023 Mustang Mach-E (the latest model available on ford.com) now lands at:
  • 2023 Mustang Mach-E Select RWD: $39,895 (-$3,100)
  • Select AWD: $42,895 (-$3,100)
  • Premium RWD: $42,895 (-$4,100)
  • Premium AWD: $45,895 (-$4,100)
  • Premium RWD Extended Range: $45,985 (-$8,100)
  • Premium AWD ER: $48,895 (-$8,100)
  • California Rt 1 AWD: $48,895 (-$8,100)
  • GT: $52,395 (-$7,600)
  • GT Performance Edition: $57,395 (-$7,600)
While the Mach-E is currently ineligible for federal tax credits on purchases, buyers can still get the credit by leasing the SUV.

The entry-level Ford Mustang Mach-E will be cheaper to start in 2025. The electric crossover will go on sale early next year with a starting price of $36,495. That’s $3,500 cheaper than the 2024 Mach-E Select before adding the $1,995 destination charge.

A new starting price isn’t the only update for the Mach-E. The crossover now comes standard with a heat pump, and the Blue Oval decided to swap the rotary dial gear selector on the center consoled for a column-mounted shifter instead, freeing up even more space between the seats.

Customers who buy the 2025 Mustang Mach-E Premium can now choose the new Sport Appearance Package. It adds GT styling cues, like the front fascia, grille, and red-painted front Brembo brake calipers. It also wears 19-inch monochromatic high-gloss black-painted wheels and black-painted cladding.Inside, the pack adds red accent stitching and sport pedals. Ford also made ventilated front seats standard on the Premium trim.

The 2025 Mach-E will also be the first Ford to feature the updated BlueCruise 1.5, which now has a new Automatic Lane Change feature. The Blue Oval says the system can automate up to 45 percent of driver-initiated lane changes on an average drive. Customers can purchase BlueCruise 1.5 via a one-year plan or a one-time purchase.

Three new colors—Molten Magenta Metallic Tinted Clearcoat, Velocity Blue Metallic, and Desert Sand—and three new wheel designs will be available for 2025. Ford will continue to offer the GT Performance Upgrade as a factory option or an option available through its FordPass app.

The updated Mustang Mach-E will arrive at dealers sometime in early 2025. We expect more detailed pricing for the rest of the Mach-E lineup closer to the model’s launch, including the destination charge. The 2024 Mach-E lineup tops out with the Rally at $58,995, which is about $6,000 cheaper than when it first went on sale. Thankfully, that trim will return for 2025.
