how many people would choose a viper over a 360 modena? i doubt very many will.... but performance is the same or even better right? truth is, what company a car is made by does matter. like the old jags for example, great cars. the new jags after ford? not so good anymore. not saying that gt is a shitty car, but id rather have a car backed by ferrari than ford anyday. the comparision of the watches was good. timex can make a watch that they say will compete with a rolex and price it accordingly, but a rolex is a rolex.

i would choose a 360 modena, if I wanted a car I was going to drive like, on public streets. If I wanted a race car, that I would trailer to the track, drive, and put back on the trailer and go home, I would get the Ford GT...... oh also, I would probably have a Ferrari too if I got the GT. lol.

Also remember - this is a race car - designed for one purpose only - racing. It SHOULD fly - and yes, it does.
btw in case you haven't seem em (I posted em here a few days after the event) - here are some pics from the C&D event I attended @ Gingerman Raceway in Michigan that featured 4 pre-production Ford GT's, a 911GT3, and Ferrari 360 Stradale. Yes this event was on the cover of the January C&D.

production Ford GT to have 550 hp
2005 FORD GT WILL DELIVER 550 HORSEPOWER IN PRODUCTION TRIM
The Ford GT's official horsepower rating has been set at 550 horsepower - more than 100 hp per liter.
Car & Driver magazine clocked the Ford GT's 0-60 mph acceleration time at 3.3 seconds, and it reached a quarter-mile in 11.6 seconds at 128 mph.
DEARBORN, Mich. March 1, 2004 - Final certification testing of the 2005 Ford GT's powertrain shows that the car's 5.4-liter DOHC supercharged V-8 is producing an average of 550 horsepower and 500 lb.-ft. of torque - 50 more horsepower than preliminary estimates.
"With more than 100 horsepower per liter, the performance potential of the Ford GT is incredible," said John Coletti, Director, Ford SVT programs.
For its January 2004 cover story, "Judgment Day!" Car & Driver magazine clocked the Ford GT's 0-60 mph acceleration at 3.3 seconds, and it crossed a quarter-mile in 11.6 seconds at 128 mph. In the same test, Ferrari's $193,000 Challenge Stradale took four seconds to reach 60 mph, and was 0.8 seconds and 13 mph slower through the quarter-mile.
"The Ford GT is a showcase for Ford's design and engineering capability - and pure passion for building great cars," Coletti added.
The Ford GT's chassis is as sophisticated as its engine is powerful. The car is built around an exceptionally stiff but lightweight aluminum space frame and the suspension is a double-wishbone design with coil-over monotube dampers.
Aluminum is also used for the body panels. Other lightweight materials, including carbon fiber and magnesium, are used throughout the vehicle. The brakes are equally sophisticated, featuring four-piston Brembo calipers that grip massive 14-inch front and 13.2-inch rear cross-drilled and vented rotors. The gearbox is a rear-mounted Ricardo six-speed manual transaxle.
Ford recently announced that the winning golfer's prize package at the Ford Championship at Doral will now include the all-new Ford GT. Valued at more than $140,000, the Ford GT supercar will be the most valuable automobile prize in the history of the PGA Tour. And now, with 550hp, it's the most powerful.
The 2005 Ford GT's 5.4-liter V-8 will be built at Ford's Romeo Engine Plant in Romeo, Mich. The vehicle will be assembled at Ford's Wixom Assembly Plant in Wixom, Mich. Production will begin this summer with deliveries to dealerships beginning shortly after that.
The Ford GT's MSRP of $139,995 excludes optional equipment, destination and delivery charges, applicable taxes, and title, license and registration fees. Transaction prices are determined by authorized Ford dealers.

Ford GT breaks 200-mph barrier during testing in Italy - - By AUTOWEEK
Not shocking, but impressive nonetheless: The 2005 Ford GT is the fastest production Ford ever.
In early June at Italy’s 13-kilometer Nardo test facility, development engineers ran the 550-hp GT to a terminal velocity of 205 mph. That speed was independently certified 38 years to the month after the original GT40 hit the traps on the Mulsanne Straight at 201 mph, becoming the first car to crack 200 at Le Mans en route to the first of its four straight wins in the 24 Hour.
The first GT40s were technically production cars, and homologated for street use just about everywhere.
Later, evolutionary racing models went faster than 201 (or 205) mph, but with their infamous high-speed, front-end lift, the originals were terrifying at those speeds. The 2005 GT benefits from four decades of aerodynamic development. While true to the original’s look, the new GT has an advanced aerodynamics: an underbody tray and subtle front and side splitters, a small rear spoiler extension and venturi tunnels wrapped under the rear clip. "Speeds above 200 mph were remarkably uneventful, which is a very positive outcome," said Mark McGowan, the 2005 GT’s vehicle dynamics supervisor and driver for the Nardo testing.

I thought I'd bump this thread because I read this at a recent review of the GT at Edmunds.. Again, as I said right above, this car keeps impressing me more and more:
http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/roadt...rereviews..2.*
"And just weeks ago, the car was tested at the Nardo high-speed test track in Italy, where it achieved a top-speed rating of 205 mph. Ford insiders tell us the car was actually hitting between 208 and 212 mph on multiple runs, but the company feels a conservative 205-mph certification is sufficient."

oh and btw it's not surprising at all that the car will go as fast as it does... my supra had ~460hp and (with me in it) weighed ~3670 lbs, and had the potential to do 202 mph (and this is not just hearsay, I have done 180 in it and it was still pulling HARD and showing no signs of letting up and I had enough revs left too... I just let off cuz umm.. 180 was enough lol.... shhhhhhhhh). The GT would weigh about 3600 with me in it and has 550hp and is more aerodynamic than a supra. It would have no problem hitting 210 or more, given good road/weather conditions.
btw this information is classified k thanks bye

Also, at 180+ speeds, speedometers are highly unreliable. You'd really need a radar gun to actually tell how fast you were going.
Look at the Viper for example. Even with 500hp, the car tops out at 190mph or so, the Vette Z06 at mid-low 170's. 911 Turbo's at ~190. (possibly a bit more but definitely not near 200mph)
The only cars I've read about recently that are able to crack 200mph are the Enzo, Porsche GT, Ford GT and the Murceliago.
But anything's possible. Did you make 460whp or crank hp? If it's wheel, then definitely more likely

Regarding accuracy. The Supra has a very accurate speedometer, comparatively speaking (as reported by some mag tests where they compare speedometer accuracy). Still, I will entertain the idea that there may be some margin of error in either direction. I will tell you this, if it wasn't 180, it was + or - a small amount, because whatever it was, it was damn fast.
btw the Viper SRT-10 has a Cd of .40 (the RT/10 was ~.50, the GTS was ~.35), not exactly designed for top speed - it's aerodynamics are a factor. The Z06's top speed corresponds to its power (405hp), as does the 911's (415hp) - (yet the 911 does 190mph).
It was crank hp (394rwhp with 17% calculated drivetrain loss).

Sorry, what I meant to say was the Z06's top speed corresponds to its gearing. It is not geared for top speed. The new C6 however has been tested at hitting 186mph.

You know I downloaded this video from Top Gear and they say that the top speed of the GT is 212 mph. I thought it was 205mph. I guess the 212 is theoritical and the 212 is certified.
The other thing I cant believe they are making a mistake on is the fact that they say that the GT engine is the same as the one in the Lightning truck. Their research is really suffering.
Of course, I already sent them an email about the fact that they have said that before the GT there was no USAmerican sports car capable of handling like one (I reminded them of the Z06)

Thought they said top speed, 190, I wasn't really listening to the words. That was pretty sweet, heres the Gt vid t for some of that American stuff. http://www.sleepy-fish.com/sleepy/TopGear_FordGT_lo.wmv a lil slow, maybe ~15 min. max
"Ford themselves has had a go at making a copy" Wow you can really see the '40inches' when they pull up next to each other. I thought he was going throw up when he dropped the hammer the first time, bwahaha( i tried to print screen but it came up black). " it actually hurts your neck muscles" "into 3rd a 100, 110, 120, 130, 140, into 4th a 150, 160, and I'm running out of runway" " top speed is a 212 so its faster than both the porsche carrera gt and the mclaren mercedes, both of which are 3 times as expensive." of course he still can find time to mention the lightning even though he is enjoying his ass at 130mph. Can't see how these fawkers can manage to complain about power, when it always been just about the power when making a fast car, from the moonshine days till today. "this car is a sensation" " I am one of the lucky ones, I am getting one of the 28" hahaha, oh man, gotta love this guy. " I don't think I'll ever want to get out of it" "I've run it out of petrol, I'm still not gonna get out of it, haha"
Ohh man, watching him get in the car at the end is the best, hahaha.
must see for the american enthusiasts.

Ford recalls GTs due to potential cracking in suspension control arm - - By AMY WILSON | Automotive News - - Source: Autoweek
DETROIT -- Ford Motor Co. is recalling its GT supercar, saying the vehicle is unsafe to drive because of potential cracking in a suspension control arm.
Ford has notified dealerships of the GT recall. The recall affects the 448 GTs produced this year. Of those, 289 have been shipped to dealerships, and 106 are in customers' hands.
Ford says no accidents or injuries have been reported. Engineers discovered the cracked control arm in one GT during a routine field inspection.
It may be weeks before the cars are back on the road. A casting problem caused the flaw, a Ford spokeswoman said.
Ford is developing a new casting procedure and will then produce new control arms.
The base price of a GT is $143,845, including a $1,250 destination charge and a $2,600 gas-guzzler tax.
