Wow...LOVE the new design overall. The blunt nose (Lancer-like) will have to grow on me, but everything else is drop-dead gorgeous. And man that white Fusion ....where do I sign?

i like the Mondeo rear but it looks like it went on a fast food diet. It's pretty big.

After some more thought I'm having concerns about the engine. Only 237hp from the 2.0 liter turbo four when Hyundai/Kia are getting 274hp from their similar engine. I have a feeling this thing is going to be SLOW. Still a looker though....

2013 Ford Fusion is Autoweek's Best in Show winner

http://www.autoweek.com/article/2012...#ixzz1jBhB2viS
Sometimes it's hard to be patient. Usually, we announce the Autoweek Editors' Choice awards for the Detroit auto show during the Autoweek Design Forum, and we will do so for the 2012 show on Thursday, Jan. 12, at noon Eastern.

But here's a head start: The redesigned 2013 Ford Fusion sedan is our pick for Best in Show. We're telling you this early because Ford was so excited that group design vice president J Mays came around on Wednesday to pick up the trophy from Autoweek editor Wes Raynal--and Ford couldn't help but jump for joy in 140 characters on its Twitter site.

Raynal said, "The Ford Fusion bucks the midsize-sedan trend of playing to the broadest common denominator. The Fusion delivers bold styling that projects a more luxurious message than we expected for its broad, family-car mission."

The winners in the remaining three categories--Most Significant, Best Concept and Most Fun--get their time in the spotlight on Thursday. Until then, take your best guess at the winners, and see if your instincts match those of the Autoweek editors.

I would imagine the average American would not have a problem with it. Honda and Toyota sell a crapload of mid-size cars with 200 NA engines.

Only 237? They should at least be matching what the competition's V6's and FI 4's are offering.....and it ain't 237, its 270+.

Its the job of the 1.6L to sell volume, just like Honda and Toyota's 4's do.

Again, without sounding like a SSFTSX apologist, I don't think this is that big a deal. 237/250 is not bad ... It's all how the car drives. If it doesn't feel like it needs 30 more horsepower, no one will miss it. Still better than the 4-cylinder Accord and Camry by 30-50hp.

Here's my guess, SVT Fusion with 280hp 2.0t Ecoboost. Which is why they have the 237hp version as the normal engine.

But those are base engines, the Fusion's base engine is the 1.6L Ecoboost. I agree that as long as it drives well. But it doesn't help marketing, that's for sure. And lets be honest, if Honda had announced the new Accord with those specs we'd be all over them for it.

I agree with you but I am talking about for me in particular. 237hp doesn't cut it when the Optima's 2.0T gets 276hp...

The 237hp on the entry level is totally fine since there are other engines to choose from. I'd bet the trim with 237hp would sell the most in terms of sale numbers.

The 1.6 is the base engine, not the 2.0L.

Yeah, 237hp is not enough for the optional engine IMO when every other competitor is over 270hp. Hopefully they offer an SVT option with a V6 or a more aggressively tuned turbo 4...

Just Ford Focus titanium tip the scale at 3000lbs. 237bhp is too slow for wide & heavy sedan. Its fuel economy/performance will suffer compared to proper V6/6speed auto setup.
V6 SE Camry as fast as 8 speed 2013 BMW 328I.
Ford cars have poor aerodynamics and tranmission setup.

So true. Ford cannot beat the most aerodynamic car in the world... the Acura TSX.

Remember when SSFTSX had a hard on for HondAcura you could hang a towel from it? He use to have a hard on for Audi prior to that. Now he flip flopped. This guy is THE definition of a troll.

Kudos to Ford. They produced a real looker with the features and mileage to match!

Sorry but he's way too entertaining to ban. How would we know that vents don't belong above navigation screens without SSFTSX? How would we know what cars not to buy based solely on side mirror design? The man is a Encyclopedia of automotive knowledge.

the Land Rover Evoque uses the same 2.0 with 240 hp, weights 4000 lbs and still manages a 0-60 in the mid 6sec. I'm sure the fusion wont be too slow

250 lb/ft of torque isn't bad at all. Plus it will probably comes relatively low in the powerband, and it is a base engine after all. At least Ford didn't make the same mistake by making a less powerful engine an optional powerplant (read: pay more for less) like in the Explorer. A more powerful V6 for less than the weaker, more expensive turbo 4-cyl

Ford is in no position to create 5speed auto/V6 combo like TSX with same performance/NVH/fuel economy. i am not even going into reliability. EuroAccord is # 1 in the world. 100k mile German road test and UK fleet survy proved it.
I am hoping TSX gets V6/6sp auto for 2013 model year as most of Honda/Acura V6 will be 6speed auto anyway..

RDX achived better numbers than that in 2006 with 5speed auto.
http://www.roadandtrack.com/tests/car/2007-acura-rdx

VW Passat is V6, Toyota is offering V6. and they are way better than 2.0T Sonata. Acura came to same conclusion by putting V6 in RDX.

Unless you want to put 8speed Auto transmission & Cd of 0.26 in newer Audis like A6/A8/S4 or BMW 3 series. These cars are designed from ground up to be very aerodynamic with proper transmission setup. This level of engineering is not affordable in family sedan.

Sure it looks good, but it's clearly Aston Martin's design. I bet all the Aston Martin owners are rushing to list their cars for sale now. The rear looks like a Maserati Gran Turismo. Not much originality these days.

So let me get this straight. You think the car looks good but criticize it for "not looking original"?

I understand your sarcasm regarding AM owners selling their cars. The point of the styling of this car is to entice buyers into Ford dealerships.

I would much rather own a car with good looks than one where I need to wear a blindfold in order to get into it...Yes referring to beak laden cars. oofff

I would have NO shame owning a 2013 Fusion.

Too bad Ford doesn't produce a true sports sedan. MKS wouldn't be bad, but too large and not RWD.

There's a reason why so many automakers have used the Hofmeister kink that was popularized by BMW.

In a quest for some originality in design, we all too often end up w/ the "beak" (Acura) or "pinched/predator" grill (Lexus).

the rear is taken from the Mondeo, and they're not the only cars to look like the gran turismo from behind. The sti, with red added to its tail lights, looks exactly like it

And who cares about originality? Good looking is good looking. Hyundai steals plenty of design cues from lexus bmw and mb

Don't forget Honda/Acura.

And I wouldn't include Lexus as a basis for design cues since they got most of theirs from the Germans.

Why do you guys keep saying its the base engine? The 1.6 is the base engine. No power figures to the best of my knowledge have been released for it yet.

The 1.6-liter EcoBoost is expected to deliver best-in-class four-cylinder non-hybrid fuel efficiency of 26 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. The 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine – paired with a paddle-shifted six-speed SelectShift Automatic™ transmission, available 19-inch wheels and tires and all-wheel drive with the ability to send additional torque to the rear – is the Fusion performance option.
