Dodge: Charger News
They probably didn't want to use station wagons, 300C is a chrysler brand, Intrepid (name) is gone, so I guess they did need to come up with a 4door for their NASCAR teams..
I don't like the way they're dumbing down 300C's image.

My bad. Even more reason the Charger should be 2 door. domn, who was never a fan of vintage cars.

Retro? No thanks. The "new" Mustang looks dated IMO. Lucky I'm not their target market.

I'd guess 18 to 25 year old single males or people old enough to remember the 67 Mustang. If I wanted a 67 Mustang I'd go buy a 67 Mustang.
There's lots of complaining on the Dodge boards about this car too. Specifically the fact that it's a 4-door. I can understand that, but the reality is that 2-doors are just not selling any more. So I can see why they chose to make this the stable-mate for the Magnum.
It's not an official DCX prototype, but Popular Hot Rodding commissioned some artwork for a 2-door Charger to be built on the LX platform. I think this would be a winner, if there was actually a market for a 2-door.

So we're all emotional about this, but the fact is it's all about money, for the car co.s They design and build cars that will sell and make them cabbage. The trend towards "retro" looking cars is directly linked to the economic bulge we all know as the baby boomers.
The most affluent demographic. These items, like mototrycles (another market freakin going wild) make the 'boomers feel younger, reminicent of their youth. And as a automaker/marketer they know the boomers have the bucks to spend as most of them are nearing empty nest or are there already (I can't wait!). Yes this would mean they may want 4 foors, but when their old fart (just kidding I'm gonna get there soon) friends wanna come along for a double date, a 50 year old climbing over a fold-down seat isn't pretty.
Chrysler saved itself with the K-Car: selling cheap disposable cars to the early boomers with kids, then the mid boomers with growing kids by offering them the mini-van, now they're moving along as the get older. A four door "sport" concept transcends the boomers across the lost generation (me at 39) and stretches into the Genreation Xers - like people buying the TSX = sell more cars. They are car wh*res . . .
Beyond all this crap, I actually like Chrycos old and new and think this car is muscular looking. Not enough to trade in my TSX, but good looking nonetheless.

My only issue with the new Charger is the size and lack of an MT. It's a full size car - it'll just be too big (assuming it will be the same size as the 300, 197in long and 3700+lbs). If they could have just kept it down to the E class size that the chassis is based on and the weight below 3500 lbs I would have considered it - if it had an MT.
It's a plain looking car with monster motor. Typical Dodge thinking these days. However, it seems to be helping them sell their products.
I have to admit that the Magnum R/T is quite an interesting vehicle though.
