Move over Ford Explorer Interceptors because there's a new sheriff in town. Utah-based Armormax has revealed its latest armored vehicle, and it's none other than the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat.

First spotted by Carscoops, the Charger SRT Hellcat boasts various armored protection levels depending on the customer's wants, but there's one feature that really grabs attention: available all-wheel drive. Of course, Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles has never offered AWD for its Hellcat models from the factory.

Armormax told Motor Authority the company can outfit the bulletproof Charger SRT Hellcat with AWD as part of an in-house conversion process. Customers simply check the box and the company will ensure 707 horsepower finds its way to all four wheels rather than just the rears. That may make a decommissioned Armormax Charger SRT Hellcat a highly desirable used car in the future.

The company also installs police-spec lighting, ballistic armored glass, a push bar, and run-flat tires. The bulletproof paneling is available in B4, B5, B6, and B7 ballistic protection levels. Carbon-fiber decals complete the sinister package that surely no criminal will want to encounter. Protection is also present for the Hellcat's battery, radiator, fuel tank, and ECU. It's unclear how much weight the bulletproofing adds, but the 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine will certainly be able to handle it.

Other trick options Armormax offers for include bomb blankets and an exterior listening device for covert operations.

Pricing is on an individual quote basis, but we'd imagine the final tally easily crests $100,000, especially for those that opt for AWD. The 2018 Charger SRT Hellcat starts at $65,345 before Armormax gets its hands on it.

Maybe a municipality or two out there can buy this one and not get in trouble.

Rumors of a widebody Charger sedan being seen on the streets seem to have been accurate, as Dodge finally showed the car in public. The Widebody Charger was displayed during SoCal LX Spring Fest, a festival that is, you guessed it, all about LX-chassis MoPars. Technically FCA is calling the car a “concept” but it is quite clearly ready for prime time production.

Dodge’s modus operandi lately has been more and bigger and bigger and more. Throw more power at a chassis until it’s too much, then make it wider with more tire until it’s under control again. Lather, rinse, repeat. It would make a lot of sense for Dodge SRT to offer the widened fenders on the super sedan, being that the company commands a $6,000 premium for the Challenger Widebody models.

How long until we see a Charger Widebody Redeye? Fuck it, give us an 800 horsepower family sedan Dodge. You silly? Send it.

That looks pretty badass, my brother told me about it yesterday.

He hasn't even had his Charger for even a year yet and he already had the itch when he saw the widebody but he's gonna hold off. $6k for the widebody option!

Give it a few months. Best dealers here for discounts are Orange Coast Dodge and Huntington Dodge. They have new hellcats on the lot listed on their site at $5g -$7g off all the time. And its not a BS fishing scheme. I've got all my Mopars/Jeeps from Orange Coast...when I got the Durango they had it advertised as $6k off...I called them, got that price plus 0% financing. They flatbedded the car to me the next day with he paperwork to sign.

Yah when the time comes, it is either this or the new M440i GC or the S5 Sportback...

It will all come down to the pricing...

https://www.netcarshow.com/dodge/202...ellcat_redeye/

Dodge, America's performance brand, continues to push the limits of the world's only four-door muscle car, introducing the new 797-horsepower 2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye - the most powerful sedan and fastest mass-produced sedan in the world.

To put that nearly 800 horsepower to the pavement, the new Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye boasts a Widebody exterior with integrated fender flares that add 3.5 inches of body width. The new 20-inch-by-11-inch Lightweight Carbon Black wheels ride on Pirelli 305/35ZR20 tires, which give the Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye more tire tread where the rubber meets the road. A newly designed, functional performance hood on both Charger SRT Hellcat models gives this four-door sedan an even more sinister look.

"The magic of the Dodge Charger is that it delivers all the performance of a true American muscle car while also being able to deliver a family of four or five, day in and day out," said Tim Kuniskis, Global Head of Alfa Romeo and Head of Passenger Cars - Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT, FCA - North America. "The Charger is a big, comfortable, five-passenger sedan that can run the quarter-mile in the mid-10s, 0-60 in the mid 3s and reach a top speed of 203 mph, and be your daily driver."

The Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye runs 1.2 seconds faster than the Charger SRT Hellcat on a 2.1-mile road course, equal to about 7 car lengths after one lap.

Dealer orders open for 2021 Dodge Charger models this fall, including the new SRT Hellcat Redeye; vehicles are scheduled to start arriving in dealerships in early 2021.

This year the 2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye becomes the most powerful factory Charger ever. And, big surprise, it's the most expensive Charger in the lineup, with a base price of $80,090 including the $1,495 destination charge. That's also a $2,000 premium over a Challenger Hellcat Redeye, so you're arguably paying $1,000 per extra door. But can you put a price on the satisfaction of sharing 797 horsepower with your friends?

Pricing for the rest of the 2021 Charger lineup is out, too. Only three models see price increases: R/T, Scat Pack and Scat Pack Widebody. The R/T is up by $500, the Scat Pack by $600 and the Scat Pack Widebody by $100.

These relatively unchanged prices reflect a lack of changes to Chargers. Besides the aforementioned new Hellcat Redeye, there are new 20-inch wheels available for all-wheel-drive Charger GT and SXT, and the regular Charger Hellcat gets 10 more ponies for 717 total. Otherwise the lineup carries over unchanged for the new model year. Dealers can start putting in orders for cars in September, and the first 2021 models should start arriving early next year.

https://www.motorauthority.com/news/...engine-to-3-hp

Dodge is giving owners of high-horsepower Challengers or Chargers an extra line of protection against vehicle theft.

It announced Monday that it will offer a new pin-activated security feature to owners of Challengers or Chargers equipped with either the Hellcat 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 or the 392 6.4-liter V-8. The feature, when activated, limits the engine to 675 rpm.

At such low revs, the engine will only make about 3 hp, which would make it virtually impossible for the driver of a stolen vehicle to evade police.

With the invention of keyless entry and start, thieves have come up with myriad ways to spoof the data. This new security feature is designed to stop them from stealing a vehicle by creating a double verification system, similar to what many website logins now require.

The security feature is a software-based feature that requires a unique four-digit pin chosen by the owner to be keyed in via the infotainment system.

The dealer-installed feature is being offered free of charge to owners and can be installed on models dating back to the 2015 model year. It will be available late in the second quarter of 2021.

https://carbuzz.com/news/dodge-custo...lbreak-package

The Dodge Challenger continues to light up the sales charts this year and is on course to overtake the Ford Mustang for the annual sales crown. Besides offering brawny power plants, a comfortable ride, and a surprising amount of space, Dodge has managed to maintain interest in the Challenger with numerous special edition models and lots of customization options. The same can be said of the Dodge Charger. Recently, the company revealed a few ghoulish, Halloween-themed packages for both the Challenger and Charger. But for the true individual, Dodge has just revealed Jailbreak versions of these two models that unlock many typical ordering restrictions. Think of BMW Individual or Rolls-Royce Black Badge and you'll get an idea of what the Jailbreak Package is all about.

The Jailbreak treatment applies to both the Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody and the 2022 Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody. Where customers would previously be prevented from choosing certain colors or mixing specific options, the Jailbreak variants provide far more choice.

"Roughly half of all Dodge customers modify their vehicles," said Tim Kuniskis, Dodge CEO. "We're taking most of the parts and pieces we've used over the years, adding a few new ones and letting customers build their own 'One of One.' So, if you're dreaming about owning a Stinger Yellow Challenger with Brass Monkey wheels, Hammerhead Grey seats, blue Brembos and red badges, I'm not sure we should, but we'll build it for you."

For the Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody Jailbreak model, this means over 20 categories where customers can mix and match options as they please. Available are seven seat options, six brake caliper colors, four steering wheels, and a lot more. There are also a variety of options reserved specifically for this Jailbreak model. Examples are a Hammerhead Grey color for the Laguna leather, floor mat accents, and seatbelts. The seatbelts can also be finished in Sepia or Demonic Red. Blue brake calipers, 20x11-inch Warp Speed Satin Carbon wheels, and Brass Monkey exterior badges are other options on a long list.

The Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody Jailbreak comes with a similar array of options. Exclusive content available on this model includes vinyl stripes for the hood, roof, and decklid, along with a Black Nickel exhaust tip finish, an Alcantara steering wheel, and the same Hammerhead Grey upholstery color.

If the amount of choice is a bit too overwhelming, Dodge has a solution for that too, with options pre-created by the Dodge Product Design Office. These include the Old School Challenger Jailbreak and the Brass Funky Charger Jailbreak. The Old School Challenger Jailbreak has an F8 Green exterior, Gunmetal Grey brake calipers, 20x11-inch Warp Speed Satin Carbon wheels, a twill headliner, and more. The Brass Funky Charger Jailbreak, meanwhile, gets a Hellraisin exterior and Sepia Laguna leather seats, along with carbon fiber bezels and a Brass Monkey Hellcat grille.

Perhaps the best part of the Jailbreak models? A revised powertrain calibration for the SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody increases its output to 807 horsepower, the same as that of the Challenger SRT Super Stock.

Jailbreak models will be available to order later this year and the option package carries a retail price of $995.

We have known for some time that Dodge is working on a new battery-electric platform for its next generation of muscle cars. Nevertheless, the fate of the V8 versions of the Charger and Challenger was unclear, with speculations that the V8 could live alongside the battery-powered cars. Sadly, this will not be the case, as Dodge finally confirmed in a letter to editors.
10 photos

According to a MotorTrend story, Dodge would supposedly continue selling ICE-versions of its muscle cars alongside the electric versions. This already sounds far fetch, as developing two different platforms for the same models would not work very well economically. MotorTrend sources were somehow convinced that the ICE platform would be shared among other Stellantis brands and models to spread the costs.

Unfortunately, as much as petrolheads wanted to believe it, the story proved to be nothing more than wishful thinking. A Dodge spokesperson felt the need to straighten things up in a letter to editors, confirming that the V8 versions are dead and that all ICE versions of the Charger/Challenger will be retired as well. The next Charger and Challenger models will be exclusively powered by electricity.

“The story was incorrect,” a Dodge spokesperson confirmed in a letter to Motor1, while the CarBuzz version adopts a stronger wording, saying that the story “was false.” “The Hemi in that platform, as well as that platform, are going away after 2023. The next generation will be BEV.”

This is it, folks; no more are they/won’t they uncertainty as Dodge seems determined to enter the EV fray head-on. As much as petrolheads hate it, electric propulsion systems are actually great for high-performance muscle cars. We’ve already seen Tesla Model S Plaid wiping the floor with many seasoned performance cars. At the same time, GM already speaks of the GMC Hummer EV as a “muscle truck.”

The V8 HEMI engine is expected to end its Charger/Challenger career with a bang. Rumor has it that the farewell version of the Hellcat engine will pump out up to 900 horsepower. It would be the last blast from the past before electricity takes over the muscle car realm.

https://www.netcarshow.com/dodge/202...a_srt_concept/

Dodge is taking a giant step forward on the performance brand's road to an electrified future, revealing the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT, a perception-shattering concept that reimagines what a battery electric vehicle (BEV) can be. The Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept offers a glimpse at the brand's electric future through a vehicle that drives like a Dodge, looks like a Dodge and sounds like Dodge.

The two-door Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept was unveiled at the 2022 M1 Concourse in Pontiac, Michigan, during the third day of the three-day Dodge Speed Week event series, which featured announcements and reveals of Dodge performance products.

The Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept muscles aside the boring BEV paradigm and replaces it with an electrified vehicle unlike any on the road today. A new propulsion system drives the Charger Daytona SRT Concept with performance that exceeds the Dodge brand's famed SRT Hellcat engine, accompanied by an industry-first BEV exhaust sound.

The concept's modern exterior styling incorporates subtle Dodge heritage cues while also exceeding aerodynamic targets. Interior design elements connect to create a driver-centric, immersive experience through sounds, displays and lighting features that change inside and out at the push of a button.

Core to the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept are three game-changing, patent-pending features that will rewrite the rules of the BEV segment:
  • R-Wing: A unique aerodynamic pass-through design feature that connects the concept with its iconic Dodge Daytona namesake
  • Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust: Industry-first BEV exhaust, can reach 126 dB, making it as loud as a Hellcat-powered Dodge
  • eRupt: Multi-speed transmission with an electro-mechanical shifting experience that's pure Dodge
"The Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept exists because performance made us do it," said Tim Kuniskis, Dodge Brand Chief Executive Officer - Stellantis. "Dodge is about muscle, attitude and performance, and the brand carries that chip on its shoulder and into the BEV segment through a concept loaded with patents, innovations, and performance features that embody the electrified muscle of tomorrow. The Charger Daytona SRT Concept can do more than run the car show circuit; it can run a blazing quarter-mile. And when it comes to product cycles, it outruns Darwin. Charger Daytona does more than define where Dodge is headed, it will redefine American muscle in the process.

"One day ago, the brand's first-ever electrified performance vehicle was unveiled, the all-new 2023 Dodge Hornet. Today, we revealed a peek at our eMuscle future with the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept. When we said it was going to be an electric summer for Dodge, we meant it."

Brotherhood, Meet Banshee

Dodge has built a unique reputation as America's muscle car brand. In the race to be faster, quicker and more powerful, Dodge is turning the page to a new chapter. The brand's first-ever electric car isn't called the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept by coincidence - like the famed Charger Daytona model that was the first vehicle to break 322 km/h (200 mph) on a NASCAR track in 1970, the Charger Daytona SRT Concept packs a performance punch.

It does so courtesy of a new propulsion system that joins high-horsepower household names such as HEMI®, Hellcat and Redeye. There's a new pinnacle of performance in the Brotherhood of Muscle: Banshee.

The 800V Banshee propulsion system powers the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept car and screams performance, making Dodge's first electric vehicle faster than a Hellcat in all key performance measures. The standard all-wheel drive system is key to pushing beyond Hellcat performance while also improving all-weather capability.

eRupt Transmission

Unlike typical BEVs, the Dodge brand's eRupt multi-speed transmission with electro-mechanical shifting delivers distinctive shift points, throwing shoulders into seatbacks in true Dodge style. The Charger Daytona SRT Concept also boasts a PowerShot push-to-pass feature. Activated by the push of a button on the steering wheel, PowerShot delivers an adrenaline jolt of increased horsepower for a quick burst of acceleration.

Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust

While most BEVs embrace their virtually silent electric motors, that just wouldn't do for Dodge. The Charger Daytona SRT Concept voices a 126 dB roar that equals the SRT Hellcat, generated through a new, patent-pending Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust system. Yes, Dodge added an exhaust to an electric vehicle.

The industry-first Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust pushes its one-of-a-kind performance sound through an amplifier and tuning chamber located at the rear of the vehicle. The Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust represents the next generation of tactile, bone-shaking, muscle attitude, creating a visceral "Dark Matter" sound profile experience in concert with the eRupt transmission.

Dodge Design, First and Foremost

The Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept features inspired design that takes on the challenge of revolutionizing the look of a BEV while offering subtle nods to the brand's muscle car past.

That design principle begins to unfold up front, where the Charger Daytona SRT Concept's patent-pending R-Wing redefines the typical Dodge front end, maintaining the characteristically blunt Dodge profile while developing a more aerodynamic vehicle.

The R-Wing, an homage to the original Charger Daytona design and to a key figure behind development of the original vehicle, allows air to flow through the front opening, enhancing downforce. Incorporated into this functional performance hood, the front R-Wing holds true to the brand's dramatic exterior themes while delivering an aerodynamically improved pass-through design.

Carbon-fibre intakes tucked into both sides of the front and rear lower fascias provide an air curtain to assist in aerodynamic performance.

The Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept combines modern looks with a long, wide and confident road presence. The front grille stands out with cross-car illuminated lighting centred by a white illuminated Fratzog badge, a symbol teased last year by the Dodge brand. The three-pointed Fratzog badge, originally featured on Dodge muscle cars from 1962 through 1976, was previously used without any meaning or context - until now. The return of the Fratzog logo represents the electrified future of Dodge and signifies the brand's unwavering commitment to its performance heritage, but with new technology capable of pushing limits well beyond the cars of today.

Simple, vertical details on the front grille add texture while calling back to the brand's heritage, specifically the iconic 1968 Dodge Charger. The concept distills performance to its simplest form, enhanced by a typically playful Dodge exterior colour name, Greys of Thunder, that gives a high-gloss graphite feel with deep textures. The concept's "waterline" tracks around the sides and gives a planted look while emphasizing the upper portion, keeping the visual weight up high. Subtle, muscular shaping of the wheel fenders accent the body styling.

The vehicle avoids excess decoration - headlights almost disappear, hidden underneath the R-Wing and integrated seamlessly into the aerodynamic surface providing just the functional elements needed for forward lighting. Both the front and rear lighting feature a full width design centred by a 3D illuminated Fratzog badge. The exterior lighting elements are truly unique - even in the dark, you'll know the Charger Daytona SRT Concept's silhouette. Flush door handles continue the minimalist design. Brushed aluminum "screaming" Banshee fender badges announce the new propulsion system that drives the concept.

Painted-pocket 21-inch wheels with diamond-cut faces continue the aerodynamic efficiencies with a turbine-like design, and a red Fratzog logo embellishes the wheel centre locks. Grey six-piston brakes provide the stopping power.

A new hatchback design is highly functional, giving the concept a dual personality: a beast at the track that can still meet every day needs. The design, along with rear seats that fold flat, offer unexpected utility and storage capacity from a muscle car.

Connected, Driver-centric Interior

The Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept's interior is modern, lightweight and athletic, providing a driver-centric cockpit with all essentials cohesively packaged.

The 12.3-inch centre screen, the largest featured in a Dodge vehicle, angles nearly ten degrees towards the driver, and the 16-inch instrument cluster is curved, creating a cocooned, driver-focused feel. An 8-in.x 3-in. Heads-up display (HUD) puts additional vehicle information where the driver needs it. The slim, instrument panel (IP) and mid-bolster in Ultraviolet colour with blue and silver accent stitching feature a "waterline" that extends cross car. The upper IP is a step higher, an elevation change that creates a sculptural surface floating above the cluster. The Ultraviolet colour also touches multiple interior surfaces such as the console, doors and seats, creating a halo that works with the Attitude Adjustment Lighting TM to enhance shadows and highlights.

A parametric texture unites the interior and provides a connection to the exterior by continuing the inspiration of the 1968 Charger grille detail on the inside. The parametric pattern adds fluidity and shine, spanning from the IP to door appliques, beneath the console and continuing to the rear armrests and rear console. The dynamic interior texture has a three-dimensional quality that bounces light and is reactive to the environment, with lines that radiate as they move rearward. Ambient Attitude Adjustment Lighting illuminates the texture from below, playing with depth and dimension.

Circuit-like graphics originate on the carbon fibre floor and are strategically placed to surround occupants, flowing under the seats, moving to the centre console and IP, and coming back to the driver, a subtle detail that acts as a circuit board, connecting one to another. A unique lightning bolt shape on the accelerator pedal hints at the concept's electrified powertrain. Carbon fibre door sills feature illuminated white Daytona lettering, with lighted Daytona lettering also found at the top right of the mid-bezel.

Doors and centre console follow the sculptural design theme, including only the needed elements. A pass-through area under the console creates a much lighter feel, and clever centre console touches include a jet-fighter inspired cap that flips up when engaging the start button. The unique pistol-grip shifter is inspired by the past but with a modern execution, functioning as a mechanical precision piece that delivers an effortless shift experience when squeezing the pistol grip's trigger.

A new steering wheel design offers a thinner feel, with a flat top and bottom. The centre spoke of the steering wheel is not connected to the rim, giving the steering wheel a floating feel. Paddle shifters are mounted on the steering wheel, with the PowerShot button on the right and drive mode controls on the left. Like the doors, the steering wheel features capacitive touch controls. An illuminated red SRT logo lights up the steering wheel centre.

Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept seats are lightweight, sporty and slim in design, with an insert that features abstract, perforated pattern of the Fratzog logo. The unique pattern fades out as it travels down the seat and reappears as it flows toward the centre of the seatbacks. The upper seatbacks feature openings and seat bolsters that provide an airy, race-oriented feel, while holding occupants.

The panoramic glass roof gives an open-air feel to the Charger Daytona SRT Concept, helping to include rear passengers in the vehicle experience. The parametric interior texture extends to the headliner surrounding and accentuating the glass area. The carbon fibre "tub" floor and hatch are race-inspired lightweight features, and the large cargo area along with fold-flat rear seats provide more storage space than any previous Dodge muscle car.

Immersive, Electrified User Experience

The Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept's cockpit experience immerses the driver's sensory experience through performance sounds, lighting features, and vehicle displays.

A simple one-button press on the steering wheel lets the driver pick from Auto, Sport, Track and Drag modes, instantly changing the driving dynamics, instrument cluster information, HUD content, performance sound and interior lighting features of the vehicle.

Surprised they called it a Charger, being a 2-door, and not a Challenger.
I'm sure most younger folks would see it & think Challenger, no t knowing the original Charger was a coupe.

Is that just a fancier way of telling us they installed speakers for the ppl outside?

Either way i would take it over the dead silence.

The 2023 Dodge Charger and Challenger are ready for virtual builds now that Dodge has updated its retail site configurator. This is the final year for internal combustion muscle car production, the lines marrying Hellcats to Redeyes and Widebodies going silent at the end of December. On top of the Challenger SRT Hellcat getting a six-speed manual transmission again and the return of B5 Blue, Destroyer Gray, Plum Crazy, and Sublime Green, the sendoff model lineup has a few trim and price surprises for this model year. Starting with price, MSRPs for the Charger range after the $1,595 destination fee, and their changes from 2022, are:
  • SXT: $34,240 (No change)
  • GT: $37,035 ($105 more)
  • R/T: $44,075 ($300 less)
  • Scat Pack: $50,435 ($300 less)
  • Scat Pack Widebody: $56,430 (No change)
  • SRT Hellcat Widebody Jailbreak: $82,430 (New for 2023)
  • SRT Hellcat Redeye Jailbreak: $91,030 (New for 2023)
Notice there are a few discounts on the low end and that the Jailbreak trim has become more populous at the upper end after being on a single 2022 Charger model. The 2022 Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody is now a Jailbreak that costs $1,390 more. The 2022 Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody is not more, and the 2022 SRT Jailbreak is now the 2023 SRT Hellcat Redeye Jailbreak costing $300 more.

For anyone unclear on what Jailbreak represents, it adds 10 horsepower and unlocks the number of personalization combinations. Choose any color in the book, then combine it with your choice of wheel, stripe, brake caliper color, badge finish, seats, seatbelt color and floor mat color. It’s a small taste of Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur in a reasonably affordable Hellcat. The Jailbreaks come with exclusive options as well, such as Laguna brown leather seats, Hammerhead Gray seat belts, and Hectic Mesh interior accents.

It's been a minute since we heard anything official regarding the successor to the current-generation Dodge Charger. That's not just a pun aimed at the silent, all-electric powertrain coming to the storied nameplate. Dodge has been laser-focused on the present, namely with the sendoff of the combustion-powered Charger and its two-door Challenger sibling. But is this really the end of a fuel-burning Charger?

Frankly, that's a subject on which Dodge is peculiarly silent. For the record, a Dodge spokesperson confirmed to Motor1.com in an email from July 2022 that combustion power in the next-generation Charger was over. Specifically, the quote was: "The Hemi in that platform, as well as that platform, are going away. The next generation will be BEV." That was before the debut of the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT EV concept, not to mention the next-generation Ford Mustang and its complete lack of electrification. Then came the Chevrolet Camaro's cancellation, and most recently, the 800-horsepower, supercharged Mustang GTD.

In short, much has happened since we chatted with Dodge about the Charger's future and in that time, rumors of combustion power have persisted. The most recent from Mopar Insiders caught our attention because it draws a clear line between the next-generation Dodge Charger and the Charger Daytona. This report claims the Charger Daytona will indeed be electric only, and we already know there will be several Daytona trims with various power outputs leading up to the range-topping Banshee. But it also states the Charger nameplate will live alongside the Daytona, packing a fuel-sipping engine.

In top trim, it could be the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six currently available in the Jeep Grand Wagoneer and rumored to be underhood of the refreshed Ram pickup. It makes 510 horsepower, more than all current-gen Charger trims save for the Hellcat family. That would certainly be enough to give the sedan some punch, all while being a bit more efficient at the pump. Moreover, it would keep a combustion-powered offering in the lineup for folks who aren't ready to go full EV.

Mind you, this is all unofficial and thus far, Dodge isn't talking. We contacted the automaker seeking a comment, or at the very least, clarification on the official statement we received last year. Has something changed? Was that statement directed only at the Charger Daytona? A spokesperson offered no additional context or information, and moreover, couldn't reaffirm Dodge's previous statement. Take that as you will.

Major information, as in a full debut, could be just a couple of weeks away. Dodge's parent company Stellantis will have at least one major reveal at the 2023 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, which opens to the public on September 16.

The gas-powered Dodge Charger isn't dead yet. While the V-8 may be gone, Dodge will continue to offer the Charger will an internal combustion engine alongside the two new electric variants revealed today.

At the top of the internal combustion food chain sits the Dodge Charger Sixpack H.O. It's powered by Stellantis's 3.0-liter twin-turbo Hurricane straight-six engine, rated at 550 horsepower. There's also a Sixpack S.O. version rated at 420 horsepower.

"The Hurricane engine-powered Dodge Charger Sixpack models will give the Brotherhood of Muscle a gas option that produces better horsepower and torque numbers than the outgoing 5.7 and 6.4-liter HEMI engines," said CEO Tim Kuniskis.

Like the electric versions, the new gas-powered Charger will get all-wheel drive as standard, with drive modes that will funnel all power to the rear wheels. The car will ride on the company's STLA Large platform, which means it should be 20 percent stiffer than the outgoing model.

With Dodge focusing on the launch of the electric Charger Daytona, there isn't much info on other specs, performance metrics, or pricing. We can tell you it'll be an eight-speed automatic-only affair, just like the last-gen car.

Dodge says all Chargers will be built at the company's Windsor, Ontario assembly plant. Production of the electric version will start in mid-2024, while the gas-powered variants will begin production starting in the first quarter of 2025.

The next-generation Dodge Charger is here, and the rumors were true. Electric and combustion-powered Chargers will coexist going forward. Electric models are all Charger Daytonas, while gas Chargers get "Sixpack" branding. But Dodge doesn't want buyers to see electric or gas cars here. In the eyes of Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis, the new Charger is a muscle car regardless of how the power is made.

He makes a compelling case. When 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona production begins this year, the least powerful version will have up to 496 horsepower. There's also a 670-hp version, each sending power to all four wheels. The ICE Charger is also AWD, entering production next year with 420 hp or 550 hp. At launch, the fastest Charger Daytona reaches 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and goes 11.5 seconds in the quarter-mile. Dodge claims the new Charger Daytona is the quickest and most powerful muscle car in the world — barring the bonkers 800-volt Banshee that comes next year.

The 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona launches in two trims: R/T and Scat Pack. Both have a 400-volt architecture and share the same dual-motor layout, powered by a 100.5-kilowatt-hour battery pack with a discharge rate of 550 kilowatts. R/T is the starter trim, with Scat Pack serving as the range-topper for now. It's the first vehicle to ride on Stellantis' STLA Large platform, and with all the EV components plugged in, Dodge says the Charger Daytona has a near 50/50 weight distribution.

Dodge says the new Daytona weighs 5,838 pounds, making old Charger seem positively light by comparison. To help manage the heft, Dodge gives the Daytona the largest tire package ever offered on a factory Charger. Scat Pack trims with the Track Package get 20-inch wheels wearing 305/35-series tires in front and 325s on the back. Behind those front wheels are 16-inch Brembo brakes with six-piston calipers. All Charger Daytonas get a mechanical limited-slip differential in its rear electric drive module (EDM), too.

At the front, the EDM has a wheel end disconnect designed to improve range and efficiency. Dodge says the R/T has a range of 317 miles, while the Scat Pack and its extra horsepower manage 260 miles between charges. Juicing up on a 350 kW fast charger can refill range from 20 percent to 80 percent in approximately 27 minutes.

The Scat Pack is what you'll need to reach 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and run the 11.5-second quarter mile. The R/T trails at 4.7 and 13.1 seconds, but it's actually a bit faster overall. Stay on the throttle and the R/T will top out at 137 mph, versus 134 mph in the Scat Pack. Each has one variable-ratio gear, though Kuniskis says a dual-speed setup is coming for the Banshee.

The Charger Daytona rides on a multi-link front suspension with an independent rear setup. Dual valve semi-active suspension with adaptive dampers is optional on the Scat Pack with the Track Package, and in this case, track doesn't simply mean drag strips. A new race prep system is designed to give the battery a colder starting temperature, allowing drivers to turn more laps before heat becomes an issue. There's a slightly different prep system for quarter-mile racers, and you can even engage line lock to heat up the rear tires before launching. Or, you can nix all of that and get sideways with Donut or Drift Mode.

Here's where the caveats come in. The Charger Daytona Scat Pack launches with 670 peak hp and 627 pound-feet of torque, whereas the R/T has 496 hp and 404 lb-ft. However, those numbers are achieved only when pressing the "PowerShot" button on the steering wheel while at full throttle. Doing so adds a 40-hp boost from the electric motors for 15 seconds, not unlike a nitrous-oxide system on a gas-powered car. After each press, you have to wait 30 seconds before you can grab another 40-hp punch from the drivetrain. Without PowerShot, the Charger Daytona Scat Pack has 630 hp while the R/T goes down to 456 hp. But wait, there's more.

For 2024, the Charger Daytona is only available with Dodge Direct Connection upgrade kits already installed from the factory. The R/T gets a Stage 1 kit that adds 40 hp over stock, so basic math tells us it generates 416 hp in standard guise without the PowerShoot figured in. The Scat Pack has a Stage 2 kit that adds 80 hp, so it falls to 550 hp before the PowerShot. We asked Dodge for some clarification about the power figures; a spokesperson explained that the maximum ratings always include the PowerShot boost, and for 2025 the upgrade kits won't be standard. Take that as you will.

Regardless of the power, you'll hear the Charger Daytona thanks to its Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust, which is basically speakers in a special exhaust-like chamber. Dodge says the car has the same decibel level as a Hellcat, but as for the nature of the sound, it's still a mystery because Dodge hasn't finalized it yet.

Two Doors Or Four Doors

With the STLA Large platform underneath the Charger Daytona's skin, it should come as no surprise this isn't a small car. The new Daytona is 17 feet long and nearly 7 feet wide, whether it has two doors or four. It's also a liftback, with the large gate opening to reveal 22.7 cubic feet of cargo space. Fold the rear seats and space goes up to 37.3 cubic feet – certainly not bad for a performance car, but still a few cubes away from the Dodge Hornet. What the Hornet doesn't have is a frunk, where you'll find an additional 1.5 cubic feet of storage for the Charger Daytona.

And yes, the Charger four-door lives on in the new generation. Dodge tells us there are no notable changes between the coupe and sedan save for the doors. Rear seat passengers have 36.9 inches of headroom and 37.2 inches of legroom, though things do feel a bit snug with a traditional transmission tunnel bisecting the cabin. The STLA Large platform is designed to accommodate a variety of gas and electric powertrains, after all.

When Dodge debuted the Charger Daytona SRT EV concept, it was billed as a near-production design. In fact, Kuniskis says it pretty much was the final design, save for minor changes here and there. That includes the "R" Wing at the front, forming a pass-through for air to go over the grille and hood. The side mirrors have a traditional shape, but the rest of the Charger's body mirrors the concept. That includes the Fratzog logo in the grille, which may or may not replace the current Dodge double-stripe logo.

The Charger's interior is decidedly digital, but it doesn't lack analog-style swagger. The driver gets a standard 10.25-inch digital screen or an optional 16-inch unit, working with a 12.3-inch center screen. The lines of the dashboard evoke those from the 1968 Charger, with a pistol-grip shift handle holding station in the center console. Up high, an optional full-length glass roof gives light to the interior, or, if you want something more colorful, Dodge's "Attitude Adjustment" interior lighting offers a range of 64 colors. These can change depending on what you're doing, such as opening a door or pushing the start button.

Depending on the package and options, interior layouts range from cloth and vinyl seats to Nappa leather on high-backed buckets. In the tech department, you'll find an optional heads-up display and Dodge's Uconnect 5 system offering TomTom navigation, Amazon Alexa compatibility, and more. There are a plethora of standard driver assists including forward collision alert with automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, lane-keep assist, blind spot detection, and drowsy driver detection.
