Dodge Caliber concept - - Source: Autoweek

Dodge’s designers were told to think global when penning the Caliber concept. The sport-themed, five-door hatchback hints strongly at Chrysler’s future plans for a Dodge-branded C-segment vehicle, one of the most popular configurations outside of the U.S. market.

Dodge has world in its sights with Caliber concept - - Source: Autoweek

Dodge’s designers were told to think global when penning the Caliber concept for the Geneva show. The sport-themed, five-door hatchback hints strongly at Chrysler’s future plans for a Dodge-branded C-segment vehicle, one of the most popular configurations outside of the U.S. market. The automaker is hoping Caliber’s aggressive appearance will help it stand out from the C-crowd and appeal to car buyers the world over.

Plenty of Dodge DNA is evident in Caliber’s design, most notably the brand’s signature crosshair grille. Wide, sculpted wheel arches, 19-inch wheels and tires and a pronounced hood lend the vehicle a powerful stance. Chrome door handles and body-side moldings accent Caliber's Sunburst Orange exterior.

“With its bold styling and clever packaging, Caliber is pure Dodge,” said Trevor Creed, Senior Vice President—Design, Chrysler Group. “This concept is a new slant on one of the world’s most competitive segments. The Dodge Caliber concept brings emotion to the C-segment sea of sameness and strongly hints at the future direction of Dodge in the global car market.”

Chrysler says Dodge will begin selling vehicles in European volume segments in 2006. Something akin to the Caliber will likely lead the charge.

Looks good but I don't think wagons are due for a comeback anytime soon.

It's a cute lil car. Should do well. I think it'd do well here also, against the Rav-4, etc. I don't like the general design theme for Dodge, and that's on any of it's cars. But if you like where Dodge is going, then this is a home run. It's interesting. The half moon semicircle used for the front wheel arches are very very similar to what we'll see on the next S-Class.

See, because Chevrolet started selling in Europe (albeit it's mostly Daweoo products), Dodge must enter now as well. I like this. Seeing US-only manufacturers enter the European market will make offerings for all, better by providing more choice for the market.

I'm getting sick of this look. That Nitro car/SUV should have been the way to go in styling. It looks fresh.

I think it's okay but I like that Dodge's recent concepts have been production-ready to a good level. I don't like it when car manufacturers make undoable concepts just to sell the idea and then come out with a shitty looking production car.

Pacifica, Freestyle, Matrix/Vibe, Highlander, Pilot, Murano, Magnum, Equinox/Torrent ... the people-carrier segment ("sports tourers" and "crossovers" and "sport wagons") is on fire. None of these vehicles is an SUV or a sedan. They're basically big, stupid wagons. Even the smaller ones.

As for taking this or any other Dodge over to Europe ... hahahahaha. Funny.

looks like a boxier version of the rx330 especially with the way the front lights arch up and the top of the tailgate.

The new Neon should be a sedan/coupe and this thing will be a spinoff.

The spy shots of the next Neon do resemble this concept. I dont doubt it at all. Although I dont understand it.

May I introduce you to this lovely model here in our Geneva showroom......

No, it doesn't sell anywhere the levels in the US, but Chrysler does sell the 300 along with the Neon, Caravan, PT Cruiser, Sebring in selected markets in Europe - usually coupled with a Jeep dealer.

Dodge Caliber News **Crash Test Results (page 4)**

Chrysler to price Dodge Caliber cheaper than Golf - - Reuters / April 18, 2005 - - Source: Automotive News

FRANKFURT -- DaimlerChrysler will price its new small Dodge Caliber car cheaper than Volkswagen's Golf in a move to take on the German rival, a manager was quoted as saying on Sunday.

"We will introduce the Caliber below the Golf's price level and see therefore good chances (for the model)," Chrysler Chief Executive Dieter Zetsche told the Tagesspiegel newspaper.

The hatchback, developed by Chrysler's Dodge subsidiary in cooperation with Japan's Mitsubishi Motors, will be marketed in mid-2006, he said, according to a report released before publication on Monday.

Dodge had presented its concept for the five-door Dodge Caliber at the Geneva car show in March.

That's a good move if they want to get any kind of foothold in Europe.

New vehicle from Dodge.

I shot these from Ohio past Wed (my business trip), somewhere near Dodge Ohio facility. The Dodge RAM in the 3rd photo tried to block me from taking pic. Can some one guess what this vehicle is?

How is that car in the spy pic in the same category as a golf???
Looks like an SUV crossover...not a hatchback.
