Depreciation Ratings by the ALG - Toyota again on top

Automotive Lease Guide Likes Toyota - - By Jack Gilbert - - The Car Connection

The Automotive Lease Guide has released its Depreciation Ratings and its Industry Brand Residual Value Awards - and Japan's brightest are topping the lists.

Toyota dominated the Depreciation Ratings list, as it saw 12 of its cars from both Toyota and Lexus divisions awarded a survey-best five-star rating.

Volvo was closest to Toyota in the five-star category, with five cars listed.

Only one domestic vehicle, the GMC Yukon, was awarded five stars.

Automotive Lease Guide's Depreciation Ratings are differentiated from residuals by the fact that depreciation is measured by actual transaction price vs. MSRP. Most vehicles sold in the United States achieved a score between two-stars and four-stars.

Vehicles wearing Chevrolet, Dodge and Kia badges were awarded the most one-star ratings.

Honda won Automotive Lease Guide's overall "Industry Brand Residual Value" award for the fifth straight year, thanks to the strength of its residuals on 2004 model year vehicles.

BMW won the equivalent award for luxury makers, but didn't have any segment winners among its individual vehicles.

Honda boasted four segment leaders in the rankings:

Accord topped mid-size cars;
Odyssey topped minivans;
CRV topped small utes; and
Pilot was top crossover ute.

Toyota scored with five segment leaders:

Tacoma took top small truck;
Sequoia topped large SUVs;
Tundra topped full-size trucks;
4Runner was top mid-size ute; and
Lexus ES 330 topped near-luxury cars.

The Mini Cooper, Nissan 350Z, Mercedes-Benz CLK were non Toyota/Honda makes topping their categories.

I can surely attest to this... selling my '98 Supra now, some 6 years after buying it..... I will most likely be able to get the same or greater than what I paid for it new
