FRANKFURT -- DaimlerChrysler plans to cut one-third of the jobs at its Stuttgart-based headquarters where roughly 3,500 people are employed, German business weekly WirtschaftsWoche said.

In an advanced copy of its Thursday edition, the magazine quoted company sources as saying that designated Daimler Chief Executive Dieter Zetsche aimed to reduce the number of administrative positions there.

A spokeswoman called the report "speculation" but added that the group was constantly looking to improve its cost structure.

She said the possibility could not be ruled out that some of the 620 jobs being cut at Mercedes Car Group as part of the division's overall 8,500 workforce reduction would affect Daimler's headquarters in the Stuttgart area of Moehringen.
