I had a Ford Taurus moment when I first saw it, but that has since passed. Looks good, but it is in the most competitive sedan market. I'm sure it'll do well in the fleet market.

The reason for such an advanced release was because of the bailout, they had to show that they had some products that people would want to buy.

Finally GM doesn't ruin a good thing. The front end looks like a more aggressive version of the current model and the rear looks to be Camaro-ized. Pretty cool.

Our neighbors have a black 3.6L Malibu LTZ with the two-tone black-brown interior and it's nice...it'll be interesting how the 4-cyl only new model does in the marketplace. Perhaps an SS with a high-output V6 is in the works...

Tonight's official reveal of the entire car should be elightening...nice job so far GM

This is basically a Regal (Opel Insignia) with a Chevy front and rear, no?

Epsilon II, I think?

I'd be surprised if it wasn't.

I think it looks good, but might age quickly, especially the front end. It doesn't look a whole lot different than the current model.

Here's hoping the interior is worlds better.

the only thing that's a toss up for me is the interior. i'm not sure what that thing going across the dashboard is. and GM's plood is actually worse than Acura's (which I think is pretty convincing, but still not the real thing), so I'm afraid of that too.

I think it looks good as well, both inside and out. Rear end might be a love it or hate it thing. I don't think it does a good job of interpreting the Camaro rear but whatever.

Like the ambient lighting inside, hopefully they have different colours though.

NO. Just because it's based on the Epsilon II doesn't meant it's "basically a Regal." This car is larger than the Regal for sure. This is a very flexible platform.

Every thing inside and out is great....only exception is the rear is a bit over-the-top.

The tail lights don't seem to flow with the rest of the car. It's not a Camaro GM, don't try to make it look like one.

ooo - camaro c pillars. which is good - they usually blotch that part of their cars.

overall looks good. i have no fucking clue where those taillights came from. wtf is that. theres not one square piece inside or outside the car, except for the double squared speedo. if their intent was to reflect the gauge cluster in the taillights, then they really need to rethink their motives.

it's better than the current taillights that they lifted off an old Mitsubishi Diamante

and the fact that they're LEDs in a mass produced family car

I don't know why automakers make it seem like those lights are luxury items. Maybe like a decade ago when no one was doing them, but now you see them even in traffic lights.

Looks good! Not too sure about the rear end, I'll have to reserve that judgement until I see it in person.

I kinda think they do go with the car, i think they help to broaden the rear end so that it doesnt look as narrow.

looks way better than the current one. I'm sure that interior pic is of the LTZ model I'd like to see what the base model looks like.

taillights

The quad taillights are meant to recall the Malibu/Chevelle design heritage of the early '70s ('71 shown below). The last 2 gens of the Malibu reflected this nostalgic nod and IMO, the '13 has the most successful implementation (with a resemblance to the Camaro as well). Of course "in-person" may reflect a different opinion, but at least in pictures this design looks promising...

Everyone wants to drive a slick car, and it's going to be hard to find one more slippery -- meaning aerodynamic -- than the new 2013 Malibu.

It's achieving a drag coefficient comparable to a Corvette and nearly as efficient as the Volt electric car, Chevrolet says.

As a result, the new Malibu Eco -- the more-expensive high-gas-mileage version of the Malibu -- will achieve the best-ever fuel economy of a Chevy midsize car. When General Motor's mild-hybrid eAssist system is included, the Malibu will get 26 miles a gallon in the city and 38 mpg on the highway. The all-new 2.5-liter Ecotec engine debuting on the Malibu next summer is expected to achieve more than 30 mpg on the highway, based on GM testing.

Aerodynamic design efficiencies and a new body style helped engineers find 60 places in which they can help make the car slip more easily through the air. The differences amount to about 2.5 mpg more highway driving range.

The new Malibu's coefficient of drag rating of 0.29 – the number used to indicate the aerodynamic drag force on a vehicle – is down from the current model's 0.35 Cd. The higher the number, the greater the drag force a vehicle's engine must overcome at any road speed. The Volt has a 0.28 Cd.

"With the new Malibu, the design and aero teams collaborated to achieve maximum fuel efficiency for our customers without compromising the car's visual appeal," said John Cafaro, Chevrolet Malibu exterior design director. "The aero and aesthetic evolved simultaneously – working together, we sculpted the car in a way that makes it more slippery."

Memo to GM: when you get down to cd of cars like the TSX then you're making progress.

The TSX has a cD of 0 because no one wants to be seen in one
