Brabus: Custom SLK (based on Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class) news **2011 Revealed (page 1)**

BRABUS Sport Program for the new Mercedes SLK - - Text & photos courtesy BRABUS GmbH - - GermanCarFans.com

Engine tuning up to 445 hp/327 kW and exclusive accessories

In time for the start of sales of the new Mercedes SLK generation BRABUS offers a well thought-out sport program to roadster fans.

The top-of-the-line BRABUS engine for the new SLK series is the BRABUS 6.1 S increased-displacement engine for the SLK 55, with its power increase of 85 hp / 62 kW. A custom crankshaft with longer stroke, precision-balanced piston rods, larger pistons and an increased cylinder bore result in a displacement increase to 6.1 liters. In addition the three-valve heads of the eight-cylinder are precision-machined and fitted with BRABUS custom camshafts. The installation of BRABUS high-performance metal catalysts and the precise calibration of the engine electronics round out the BRABUS 6.1 S engine conversion.

The new increased-displacement engine exhibits exemplary smoothness and environmental riendliness in addition to its excellent performance: Rated power output jumps from standard 360 hp / 265 kW to 445 hp / 327 kW at 6,000 rpm. Even more important for increased driving fun is the improved elasticity as a result of the increase in torque: The BRABUS 6.1 S engine delivers a peak torque of 635 Nm. Performance of the tuned roadster is on a correspondingly high sports car level. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a modified seven-speed automatic transmission and a custom-developed BRABUS locking differential. The BRABUS SLK 6.1 S catapults to 100 km/h from rest in just 4.3 seconds. Top speed is an electronically limited 305 km/h.

Sporty yet elegant BRABUS aerodynamic-enhancement parts make the roadster even more exciting: The SLK receives a more striking face with the addition of the BRABUS front spoiler and its four auxiliary headlights. The spoiler also reduces lift on the front axle thus further improving directional stability especially a high speeds. The BRABUS side sills give the two-seater a longer, sleeker appearance and offer an additional interesting feature: Pushing a button on the remote control of the vehicle or pulling on a door handle activates entrance lights integrated into the underside of the sills. They illuminate the ground next to the vehicle and make entering and exiting the vehicle in the dark safer. The rear is refined with the low-reaching BRABUS rear apron and the understated BRABUS rear spoiler. BRABUS further emphasizes the classic roadster look with two custom roadster bars, available with highly polished stainless-steel or with silver carbon finish. They replace the production bars of the SLK.

And of course BRABUS offers two high-performance brake systems for the new SLK, too. The largest version features six-piston aluminum fixed calipers and 355-mm vented and slotted discs on the front axle. The rear axle is fitted with 300-mm discs and four-piston aluminum fixed calipers. Special flex steel brake lines provide constantly high brake pressure.

Press release...

The Very Latest from BRABUS for the New SLK Models
Engine Tuning With up to 445 hp (438 hp SAE net) / 327 kW and Exclusive Accessories

Concurrent with the market launch of the updated Mercedes SLK-Class, BRABUS (www.brabus.com) presents an exclusive customization program. The palette of products ranges from engine tuning with up to 445 hp (438 hp SAE net) / 327 kW of power to a sportyyet elegant aerodynamic-enhancement program, and includes custom-tailored light-alloy wheels and suspensions as well as individual interior options.

For the top-of-the-line SLK55 AMG model, BRABUS offers its 6.1 S displacement engine. It has a rated power output of 445 hp (438 hp SAE net) / 327 kW and produces a peak torque of 635 Nm (468 lb-ft). Power is transferred to the road via a modified seven-speed automatic gearbox and a custom-developed BRABUS limited-slip differential. With a sprint time from 0 – 100 km/h (62 mph) of 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 305 km/h (191 mph) the BRABUS tuned roadster sets new standards in its class.

All BRABUS engines are lubricated with ARAL high-performance motor oil and all are backed by the one-of-a-kind BRABUS Tuning Warranty of three years or 100,000 kilometers/62,000 miles (see BRABUS warranty conditions as of November 2006).

The installation of the BRABUS stainless-steel sport exhaust system is beneficial not only for tuned engines. Its four chrome-plated tailpipes give the SLK a more exclusive appearance and produce an even more sonorous exhaust note on all SLK engines.

For the updated SLK the BRABUS designers have once again made use of the wind tunnel to develop an aerodynamic-enhancement package in OEM quality that in combination with the chrome-plated BRABUS roadster roll bars lends the two-seater a sporty yet elegant appearance.

The striking BRABUS front spoiler reduces lift on the front axle at high speeds. BRABUS headlamp inserts with daytime running lights further improve driving safety.

BRABUS rocker panels smooth the airstream between front and rear wheels, and give the new-generation SLK a longer, sleeker appearance. Integrated entrance lights illuminate the ground on either side of the SLK and make getting in and out of the car safer in the dark.

The rear of the SLK is upgraded by the BRABUS apron with cutouts for the quad sport exhaust and the understated BRABUS spoiler lip on the trunk lid.

BRABUS light-alloy wheels are available for the Mercedes SLK in one-piece or multi-piece designs with diameters of 17, 18 and 19 inches. The large selection of BRABUS Monoblock rims in four different designs starts with 8.5Jx17 Monoblock A wheels that come with an EG general operating certificate. The largest tire/wheel combination for the SLK features BRABUS Monoblock VI, E or S wheels in size 8.5Jx19 in front and in size 9.5Jx19 on the rear axle. BRABUS recommends high-performance tires from BRABUS technology partners YOKOHAMA or Pirelli in size 225/35 ZR 19 on the front axle and in size 255/30 ZR 19 in back.

The available BRABUS suspension modifications for the SLK are specifically calibrated to the use with such sporty wide tires. Engine-specific BRABUS sport springs lower the ride height of the roadster by some 30 millimeters. BRABUS sport suspensions combine this lowered center of gravity with a firmer yet comfortable damper setup. To reduce body roll further in fast corners BRABUS offers stronger sway bars.

BRABUS also offers various versions of high-performance brake systems for the new SLK. The largest version features six-piston aluminum fixed calipers and 355-mm (14 inches) vented and slotted discs on the front axle. The rear axle is fitted with 300-mm (11.8 inches) discs and four-piston aluminum fixed calipers. Special flex-steel brake lines ensure continuous high brake pressure.

The stylish customization of the SLK cockpit is yet another BRABUS specialty. The list of available components includes highly polished stainless-steel scuff plates with illuminated BRABUS logo, various versions of the ergonomically shaped BRABUS sport steering wheel and a speedometer with 330-km/h (206 mph) dial. Especially exclusive is an interior upholstered with soft yet durable Mastik leather and Alcantara. The BRABUS upholsterers don’t limit themselves to working on seats, door panels, dashboard and center console: Upon customer request they’ll meticulously sew miles of thread to cover floor, rear firewall and driveshaft tunnel with waffle-patterned leather.

Post 2011 Brabus Mercedes-Benz SLK

Press release...

A sporty designer suit, custom-tailored wheels with diameters of up to 20 inches complete with corresponding suspension options, performance tuning for all engines and exclusive interior design: BRABUS (Brabus-Allee, D-46240 Bottrop, phone + 49 / (0) 2041 / 777-0, fax + 49 / (0) 2041 / 777 111, Internet www.brabus.com) now offers an extensive customization program for the new Mercedes SLK.

Sporty-elegant BRABUS aerodynamic-enhancement components give the roadster an even more thrilling appearance. The two BRABUS front spoiler lips that attach on the left and right side of the production apron and the striking bezels for the daytime running lights lend the SLK a more striking nose. But that’s not all: the spoilers also reduce lift on the front axle which particularly benefits directional stability at high speeds.

The BRABUS side sill attachments emphasize the sporty lateral lines of the car and seem to make the rear fenders wider visually. The rear of the car receives some added sporty character with the BRABUS diffuser and the BRABUS rear spoiler on the trunk lid. The diffuser is integrated with utmost precision into the production bumper and features a centrally mounted rear reflector. These aerodynamic-enhancement components also serve more than just a visual function; they reduce lift in the rear as well.

A major contribution to the sporty appearance of the new SLK from Bottrop likewise comes from the BRABUS Monoblock wheels, which are available in various one-piece or multi-piece designs with diameters ranging from 17 to 20 inches.

The attached photos show the roadster equipped with BRABUS Monoblock F wheels painted the new exclusive ‘Liquid Titanium’ color. They are mounted in size 8.5Jx20 in front and in size 9.5Jx20 on the rear axle. BRABUS recommends high-performance tires from Continental, Pirelli or YOKOHAMA in sizes 235/30 ZR 20 on the front axle and 275/25 ZR 20 in back.

BRABUS sport springs were custom-developed to match the conversion to these king-sized tires. They are calibrated to work with the production shocks, and lower the ride height of the two-seater by some 30 millimeters (1.2 inches). BRABUS also offers various versions of its high-performance brake systems for the new SLK.

These measures furthermore make the new SLK perfectly suited for some extra power. In a first step BRABUS offers efficient and reasonably priced BRABUS ECO PowerXtra CGI tuning for the four-cylinder direct-injection engines. The processor-controlled BRABUS ECO PowerXtra CGI auxiliary control modules are custom-tailored to each respective engine variant and can be installed by any authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer in less than an hour thanks to their ‘plug and play’ design. All performance kits are backed by the one-of-a-kind BRABUS Tuning Warranty® of three years, up to 100,000 kilometers / 62,000 miles (updated November 2006). BRABUS recommends Aral high-performance lubricants.

To retain the engine’s longevity and fatigue strength these kits are designed to only activate the performance-enhancing mapping when all parameters such as engine temperature etc. are in the green. This effectively prevents the performance increase from negatively affecting the service life of the engine.

After the installation of the BRABUS ECO PowerXtra B20 CGI performance kit the four-cylinder direct-injection engine of the SLK 200 BlueEFFICIENCY produces an extra 26 hp (25 bhp) / 19 kW of power and an additional 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) of peak torque.

The new SLK 250 BlueEFFICIENCY can be upgraded at BRABUS in two stages. The BRABUS ECO PowerXtra B25 CGI module bumps power output of the four-cylinder direct-injection engine from standard 204 hp (201 bhp) / 150 kW to 230 hp (226 bhp) / 169 kW at just 5,500 rpm.

Another ten additional horsepower can be realized with the supplementary installation of a larger intercooler and an electronically controlled BRABUS sport wastegate valve that are part of the BRABUS ECO PowerXtra B25S CGI performance kit. 240 hp (236 bhp) / 176 kW of power and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft) of torque in overboost mode accelerate the two-seater in 6.2 seconds from rest to 100 km/h on the way to a top speed of 248 km/h (154 mph).

On the road all CGI engines performance-tuned by BRABUS deliver not just excellent driving performance but also optimized pulling power from low engine speeds and favorable fuel economy. Just as important for the BRABUS engine specialists were exemplary low emissions: like the corresponding non-tuned engines all engines with BRABUS ECO PowerXtra CGI performance kit meet strict EURO V emission limits.

The installation of the BRABUS stainless-steel sport exhaust system is advantageous not only for tuned engines. Its four tailpipes featuring the typical BRABUS design not only give the roadster an even more exclusive appearance but also produce an even sportier exhaust note for all engine variants.

Another focus of the BRABUS refinement of the new Mercedes SLK is the interior. BRABUS offers an extensive program for the roadster: it includes attractive accessories such as high-gloss polished stainless-steel scuff plates with BRABUS logo and sporty elements such as aluminum foot pedals and shifter.

Requests for even more individuality can be fulfilled by the BRABUS upholstery shop in the form of exclusive interiors crafted from especially soft and breathable BRABUS Mastik leather and Alcantara.
