Post BMW Z8 successor...

Here's the quote from Leftlanenews (pics from Autobild.de)...

According to the accompanying report, the topic of the Z8 successor is a recurring theme in BMW’s boardroom. While a decision has yet to be released on whether the car will actually be built, BMW has narrowed the project to a single concept. The vehicle would be sold as a 2010 model, would cost between 80,000 and 100,000 euros, would have a folding hardtop roof, two seats, and a front engine. It would be marketed as a sporty alternative to the Mercedes SL, and would be offered with M-variants. The car is expected to be shorter than the SL, but with a longer wheelbase. It would weigh around 3300 pounds, compared to the SL’s 3850 lbs. Instead of offering just one engine, BMW could offer a selection to full compete with the SL range — from a 306 hp turbo to a 605 horsepower V12. While BMW can’t “reinvent the hardtop,” it wants to give the car a strong coupe character when the roof is up, according to the report. Like the SL, the car won’t be a puristic roadster, but rather a two-seat convertible.

Front looks great, wheels are hot, but they need to "macho" up the rear end a bit, and make it more defined.

I swear these CGI's always look better than the end product. BTW, how big are those wheels?

I know, and I'm so sick of seeing them... or an artists rendition.

I'd rather see a concept or the designers actual clay model. I guess I just hate all of the speculation. Today its like they hire people to make CGI's just to draw attention to the news article of speculations...

Then people take it as to be "the design"... it's just so repititous and old at this point.

When you see it in sheetmetal and it has a MSRP set, it's time to start discussing... until then it's basically a pipe dream.

I like it, alot. And I'm surprised to say that.

Regarding CGI's, what's so bad about em? It gives you an idea about how the final car may look like. All cars come from just such designs. So I don't really see what's so bad about them. Would you be happier if there were no pictures in this thread?

2010 is quite a little bit away... although I have to say, from just these concept CGI's, it's looking really good...!

If it's from BMW, then ya it's cool. Or from one of BMW's artists!

The problem is 99% of them are from the magazines or an online publications artist. All of them are just trying to be drama queens by drawing attention creating what *they* think it's going to look like... in reality their photos have no relation what so ever to the actual car being designed/built. So no, they don't give you any *real* idea what the final car will look like, they give you an idea of what their artist thinks it should look like... who has no relation what so ever to the actual designers.

THEN, you have people who call these photos "concept" photos. Which they aren't, if they were from BMW yes they would be. They're a 3rd party artists rendition of what he see's the car being. If you like the 3rd party artist rendition, buy the photo... it's the closest your going to come to the vehicle looking like that.

People act like the images come from the people actually involved in the design of the vehicles. Most of the time they don't...

Now look at the post below mine... who is "they", BMW? i don't think so... those photos are not from BMW... "i like the older Z8 much better"... lol, you haven't seen the BMW design for the new one yet... so how can you say that?

This is why I don't like these CGI photos that don't come from the designers...

Although obviously from the marketing perspective the photos do work for the magazines/online publications post below mine as example ... lol (and yes, I do know that sometimes their artists are allowed to meet with the actual designers and then create an artists rendition, however this isn't an example of that)

LoL, maybe I just wish everyone would read between the lines sometimes And yes, I prefer some pics to no pics.

If they build it and use the V12 it's gonna be hella $$$. Atleast with the M5 engine it should sell for under $100K.
