The latest MotorTrend mag reports that the M Z4 will not only be produced but also be available at the end of 2005 as a 2006 model when the base Z4 will also receive a much needed facelift (due to sagging sales). The engine used in the M will be the one from the M3.

Cheaper Z4 launched - - Source: Autocar
BMW is to launch a new entry-level 2.0-litre Z4, opening its roadster to a wider market of potential buyers when sales start in May. The new car should be priced at around £22,000, compared with the current £24,700 2.2-litre entry-level model.
The lightweight 150bhp four-cylinder unit, also used in the 1- and 3-series, will be built at BMW’s Hams Hall plant in Warwickshire. BMW claims the new roadster should be good for 0-60mph in 8.2sec and 136mph.

Spy Shots: ’06 BMW Z4 M - - by Hans Lehmann/Hidden Image - - Source: The Car Connection
Following their usual pattern, BMW initially introduces the standard version of a vehicle, and then some time later brings out a high-performance M version. It may seem a long time in coming for the Z4, but these recent photos, taken at Germany's famous racetrack Nürburgring, show that BMW is currently testing the M version of the Z4. The final product will most likely be launched at this fall's Frankfurt Motor Show.
The new sports car may use either a 350-hp V-8 engine or the 343-hp in-line six from the current M3.
The Z4 M can be distinguished from the standard model by its big front skirt with large air intakes and by the four exhaust pipes at the rear. This prototype also is equipped with a removable hardtop and very low-profile performance tires.

i like the z4, but i doubt it would ever be my choice of car because of the price/value
this would be hot though, especially if they gave it a nice body kit

my uncle wants a fun toy for less than 50k. Z4 is the top candidate, but does anyone know if they're putting the 255 HP 3.0L in the Z4 soon now that the 330i has it?

The rear quarter on this CGI looks a little funky but I think they'll revise that in the final version. It might be a neat car when they're done.

i love muscle coupes like this. they just need to clean it up and dull it down a bit.
i give bagle respect for his design moves. but it is as if he is showing off by putting all these lines into the car. the overall design is overloaded.
this is why i think if it is a little bit less complicated, such as the last gen M coupe, then yes, it will be hot.
