Audi: Allroad News **Shooting Brake Version Revealed (page 2)*
Source: Autoweek
Audi showed its allroad quattro concept at the Detroit auto show. The allroad quattro comes with Audi road vision, an optical sensor that recognizes the condition of the road surface and works with the car's electronic stabilization program. The vehicle's introduction coincides with the 25th anniversary of Audi's quattro all-wheel-drive system.

Interior is great. This is what separates Audi from the rest in that area. The aluminum is just enough, doesn't go overboard. Compare it with the Infiniti M35 aluminum interior and you see a stark contrast.

The basic look hasnt changed much but it does have a bit more style (read: BLING) to it. Although I still wouldnt purchase an Audi, I do like it.

Looks like the idea hasn't changed much (they're just using the new A6 Avant platform and adding additional ride height and the adjustable suspension) but the execution of that grille is just terrible. As much as I admire Audi wanting to go back to its Auto Union roots, that grille just doesn't fit with the look of the cars.

But the difference between Audi and Infiniti is that Audi places the aluminum trim throughout the cabin in a more tasteful manner. You can see in these pics that Audi is actually using aluminum as well as titanium trim...there is contrast between the two metal materials. In the Infiniti M sport model, the broad flat panels of wood are replaced by equally broad flat panels of aluminum; it really does resemble an ATM machine, like C&D said.

Nex Gen. Audi Allroad News **Greenlighted for Production (page 1)**
Audi mulls SUV plan for U.S.; new allroad quattro may be sold only in Europe - - By BRADFORD WERNLE | Automotive News Europe - - Source: Autoweek
INGOLSTADT, Germany -- Audi AG is still wrestling with its SUV strategy for the United States.
The German automaker has not decided whether to bring its new allroad quattro to the United States, says Ralph Weyler, board member for sales and marketing.
The vehicle, based on a raised version of the A6 Avant wagon, will be sold in Europe, Weyler says.
Audi unveiled a concept version of the allroad quattro at the Detroit auto show in January.
The automaker offers an allroad quattro in the United States, but speculation was that it would be replaced by the upcoming Q7 SUV.
Although the jury is out on the allroad quattro, Audi has firm plans for the Q7, which shares a platform with the Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne.
The Q7 will come to the United States in mid-2006, according to Weyler.
"The Q7 is more sporty than the Mercedes M class or BMW X5," he says.
But Audi faces a disadvantage because Mercedes-Benz and BMW assemble their SUVs in the United States.
Audi CEO Martin Winterkorn says its Bratislava, Slovakia, plant will make the Q7 competitive.
He also says the company has not decided whether it will make vehicles in the United States.
"Everybody thinks a production plant is the final answer to the U.S. market," Weyler says. "But it's only one component."
Sourcing components wisely in low-cost countries can help just as much, he says.
Meanwhile, Winterkorn would not rule out price increases in the United States, where the dollar is weak against the euro.
Weyler says Audi wants to sell 90,000 units in the United States this year, up from 77,917 sold in 2004.
The United States is Audi's second-largest market after Germany.
Audi has 263 dealers in the United States. Of those, 80 are exclusive.
Weyler says Audi plans to increase the number of exclusives to about 120 in 2005.

New Audi Allroad gets the go-ahead - - Source: Autocar
The Audi Allroad concept, unveiled at this year’s Detroit Motor Show, has been confirmed for production, with UK sales starting in mid-2006. It had been suggested that the Allroad’s role would be fulfiled by the new Q7 4x4, but Audi is confident that there’s room for both in its range. Over 100,000 Allroads have been sold worldwide since its 2000 introduction, a quarter of which were shipped to the US.
‘We know from our research that there is a large group of wealthy American buyers who don’t want and won’t buy a full-size 4x4,’ said an Audi spokesman. ‘It would be madness for us to throw away 25,000 loyal customers.’
The new model will also be much easier and therefore cheaper to build than the old car. Air suspension and a low-ratio gearbox had to be developed specifically for the original Allroad, but this won’t be necessary as the new A6 Avant is already available with air suspension and Audi won’t be offering a low-ratio ’box on the newcomer. ‘If people are serious about their off-roading, they will choose the Q7,’ said the spokesman.
Show-car styling, such as the aluminium roof rails and chunky wheelarches will make production, but the dramatic aluminium mesh grille will be dropped.
The car will be launched with a choice of two petrol engines – a 3.2 FS and a 4.2 V8 – and a 3.0 TDi, all of which are shared with the A6. Audi has not ruled out fitting the show car’s 4.0 TDi at a later date.
The new model will be priced from around £35,500.

New Audi A6 Allroad gets go-ahead
An old era ends, a new one begins
As the Audi allroad quattro nears the end of its production life, the second generation of this successful model, due to be launched in mid-2006, is already eagerly awaited at the Neckarsulm plant.
90,000 allroad quattro models have left the production line since the beginning
of 2000, considerably more than originally planned. The allroad quattro combines the advantages of an Avant with those of an off-road vehicle, thanks among other things to its standard quattro permanent four-wheel drive and air suspension with variable ground clearance. The allroad quattro has picked up a number of awards over the years: in 2003 the readers of the specialist magazine “Off Road” voted it the best crossover of the year.
Its successor is already waiting in the wings. It features much of what was already displayed on the allroad quattro concept presented back at the start of the year at the Detroit Auto Show. This car captivated the public and prompted Audi to make the decision to build the second generation of the allroad quattro.
As well as offering the elegant sportiness of the new Audi A6 Avant, the new Audi A6 allroad quattro cuts a fine figure off the beaten track. The second generation once again features quattro permanent four-wheel drive and adaptive air suspension with variable ground clearance. The Audi A6 allroad quattro is the most expressive way of driving an Audi A6 Avant.
The second generation of the Audi A6 allroad quattro will be lauched in mid-2006.

Burning Brakes
At home on all roads and tracks
The very first generation of the allroad quattro proved to be a great success for Audi. Based on the A6 Avant, it has been the big Audi for any road and season since the year 2000. Now its successor is about to be launched. The new A6 allroad quattro is even more spacious, luxurious, striking and versatile. And the allroad is true to its name: it offers even more performance and dynamic handling – both on-road and off-road.
The Audi A6 allroad quattro is almost unrivalled in its international competitive environment: the concept is an independent design from Audi. It is closely related to the A6 Avant and as the basic body is identical, offers virtually the same impressive sporty performance. But whereas the Avant driver comes to a halt when the road comes to an end, the A6 allroad quattro ventures further. The
A6 allroad quattro enhances the sporty Avant concept with off-road features, thus bridging the gap between sporty elegance and remarkable versatility.
The exterior design combines dynamic styling with distinctive off-road elements. Thanks to its length of 4.93 metres and wheelbase of 2.83 m, there is room for five passengers to sit very comfortably; they can bring along up to 1,660 litres of luggage. The load area impresses with a variety of intelligent stowage ideas. The body – made largely of high-strength steels and aluminium – is extremely rigid and crash-resistant.
The interior conveys an ambience of elegant sportiness. In terms of ergonomic comfort, the MMI operating concept is a focal element. The electromechanical parking brake also enhances comfort and convenience. New colours, inlays and fabrics lend a refined and luxurious touch.
To power the vehicle, four direct-injection engines are available, two petrol and two diesel. The 3.2 FSI is a V6, developing 188 kW (255 bhp); the 4.2 FSI is a V8 developing 257 kW (350 bhp).
FSI technology increases the power and efficiency of both power plants. Both high-torque, cultivated diesels with common rail injection are six-cylinder engines with a displacement of 2.7 and 3.0 litres respectively. Key data here: 132 kW (180 bhp) and 171 kW (233 bhp). Power is transmitted by a six-speed manual transmission or tiptronic, also with six speeds. As standard, quattro permanent four-wheel drive distributes power to all four wheels.
The elaborate suspension, made primarily of aluminium, provides the highest levels of agility and safety on the road. The standard adaptive air suspension offers five modes for the body, including two settings for off-road driving. Here the ESP stabilisation program, which has been further developed especially for the A6 allroad quattro, ensures additional traction off the beaten track.
The Audi A6 allroad quattro offers a range of equipment that does justice to its premium character. Standard items, along with the MMI basic operating system, include deluxe automatic air conditioner and 17-inch light-alloy wheels. Extras available include the “adaptive light” dynamic cornering light, the advanced key keyless access system, and the parking aid, Audi parking system advanced, which employs a rear-view camera.

Very nice, the only things I don't like are the plastic cladding on the wheel wells and lower portion of the body.

Spied: 2009 Audi A4 Allroad
From Leftlanenews...
Spy photographers have spotted a mule for Audi's upcoming A4 Allroad while undergoing some cold weather test in Sweden. This 2008 A4 is fitted with matte-black wheel arches and an increased ride-height, both of which are key components of Audi's Allroad concept.
Despite this mule's sedan origins, the A4 Allroad will remain a wagon-only offering. Since the new A4 wagon has not yet been revealed, it appears Audi engineers decided to take a covert approach to testing by using this sedan. After the new A4 wagon makes its public debut, we expect to see A4 Allroad prototypes using the appropriate wagon body style.
The wheel arch extensions appear to be integrated into the surrounding design elements, showing an intentional flow from the front and rear bumpers into the newly applied flares. Similarly, a new side sill completes the design to give this test car quite a finished look.
Since its inception, the Audi Allroad has only existed as a spin-off to the A6 wagon. From the looks of this new prototype, it appears that an A4-based Allroad will join the lineup.

New Audi A4 Allroad
My next car...
Audi has revealed this, the new Audi A4 Allroad quattro, only the second new model in the Allroad series since the first Audi A6 Allroad was launched in 1999.
Based on the A4 Avant, the Audi A4 Allroad quattro is expected to go on sale in the UK this summer, with prices kicking off at £29,500. Three engines will be available: one petrol and two diesels.
See the full gallery of Audi A4 Allroad quatttro pics
The 208bhp 2.0-litre TFSI petrol will be the entry-level Audi A4 Allroad quattro; it manages 0-62mph in 6.9sec and should average 29mpg. Next up is the 170bhp 2.0 TDI, which offers an 8.9sec 0-60mph time and 36.8mpg.
Top of the tree is the 237bhp Audi A4 Allroad quattro 3.0 V6 diesel, which is good for 62mph in 6.4sec and an average fuel consumption of 33.2mpg.
The TFSI unit is hooked up to a six-speed manual ’box, while the diesels get a seven-speed dual-clutch system, with wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The quattro transmission splits the power 40/60 front to rear.
Cosmetically, the Audi A4 Allroad avoids the usual lower body cladding, getting just grey sills and flared wheel arch extensions. The lower bumpers are painted the same colour and house stainless steel underbody guards. Roof rails are standard.
The A4 Allroad’s track is 20mm wider than the standard A4’s and it rides on taller springs, but Audi has not yet revealed the ground clearance.
All A4 Allroads get Offroad Detection Technology. This senses the type of road surface and automatically adjusts the car’s ESP system to cope.
The xenon lights pictured here are optional, along with a two-part panoramic glass sunroof, three-zone climate control, active cruise control, hard drive storage and a 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen surround sound system.
